What is going on in this house?

We had similar on my old road OP and I never found out. Lovely old gent passed away. His house never had a for sale sign outside but at some point a woman and man who didn't speak English moved in and were often in the garden (only a 2ft wall around it, next to a main road en route to a primary school). My children would often say hello to them as we always did when we saw neighbours out and about which is how I now about the lack of English. They then were doing up the inside and one or two more people were often there, next thing a huge privacy fence went around (don't blame them for that as they were really on display), and an older person appeared using a zimmer who you'd see walked around the garden once or twice by one of the women every now and again and that was it. There were always white vans and random vehicles. Most intriguing! But one of those things where outside of forums like this you never mention it as it's none of your business.

No it’s not. This is just a perfectly normal level of curiosity about a neighbour whose circumstances are pretty unusual.

It would be taking it to a whole new level if OP was scaling the fence, wearing a balaclava and trying to have a butchers inside.

Sounds like supported living to me.

"He won't be a danger" ! May I bring to your attention the young French boy who was thrown from the Tate modern (2 carers), the 3yr old thrown in crocodile pit (2 carers) .
Not saying this is why he has 2 carers but I don't know why you would assume they are not a danger!

How do you know they're real carers?

How do you know how healthy he is?

Why not just ask a carer what the building is being used for next time you see them?

I used to work in a similar sounding building with one man who had very severe autism and other disabilities, we were 5 to 1 carers in order to keep him safe.

He looked able bodied if you saw him walking round the garden outside but needed locked doors, windows and gates and total security for his own safety.
The windows were tinted as he got distressed when he could see outside as he didn’t like any subtle changes.
We also had a secure vehicle to take him out in for the day with tinted windows.
I absolutely adored him but it was hard work and could be scary.

It was a very expensive package and the staff needed a lot of training as it was such unique circumstances.

It sounds like it could be something similar or as others have said it could be housing offenders - that seems unlikely if it’s just one person though.

I’d be curious too and I don’t think that’s necessarily the same as being nosy so I don’t blame you for asking for opinions OP!

There's a house across the road from me that when it was sold became an assisted living house. There's resident and a number of carers think there's usually two at a time but they seem to be the same ones on rotation. They don't wear a uniform though so I'm assuming they are not NHS ones they're just wearing their own clothes The person who's being assisted I think has some sort special needs disability rather than physical health issue. I imagine the key code is just a general security measures that they have to take for these houses for insurance purposes..
one of the carers was out in the garden smoking not long after they moved in and I said hello . He came across and told me it was an assisted living place.

He's very healthy and able

@Neighbourmystery When there was a guy parked right outside my house all day with him sitting in it (front door is straight off the pavement) and I posted on here about being a wee bit freaked out by it, I got this sort of shit too. Told to mind my own business (err I think it was my business!) and that I didnt own the road outside my house (as if that was the issue!) . Some people just like feeling pious and superior!

I was going to say Witness protection or newly released prisoners but the NHS uniform has thrown me. Are you sure the man you've seen lives there and isnt just a visitor?

If he is a visitor then it could be a supported living facility for young mums or disabled people.

Google the road and NHS together in one search. It should show you any properties run by the NHS.

But if it means enough for you to start a thread in which no-one can actually answer, why not ask a carer next time you see them?

"Oh hi, I live over there and I'm just wondering what this place has been turned into now?"

Id wonder if it is someone who has been released from a secure psychiatric unit after a criminal conviction. Safe enough to be able to leave but not safe enough to be left alone.

Then it's an assisted living facility for one person at a time. They do exist but aren't common.

Have you seen his health records, including mental health?

If so, that really is nosey and someone could get in a lot of trouble for showing you.

Is it literally just the one man in a big house with an extension? It sounds like he's a psych patient if he looks able bodied but always has two carers.

It could be they're going to add more residents if it feels too big for one guy?
He won't be a danger if he's always being watched so I wouldn't get too freaked out!

You are pretty human to wonder OP. As anyone would. I'd assume assisted living of some sort... possibly more residents to come?
