Why is reddit so wank?

There was one woman renovating her house via that sub - here’s my hallway, I need this and that fixing so how do I do it? Followed by progression posts, then ‘I finished the hallway, I need help with the kitchen’. It was great to watch.

lots of kind of mental health/becoming a better person type subs

dating

some subs have very few rules and some of them you have to be seriously knowledgeable and basically professor standard and have to back up your answers,

some of them are small and it’s the same few people posting so friendships are created

some publicising the fantastic work done by the US dna testing to identify decades old found bodies

and some are wank.

Overall I give it 9.7/10.

And you can manipulate on each sub the order you see the new posts, newest first, most engaged with first, best this week/month/year/ever. Each post and individual comment can be upvoted or downvoted.

The UKDIY sub is brilliant! Loads of knowledgeable and helpful people to guide you through the process of fixing something yourself.

I deleted the App after too many pointless arguments on sub reddits I thought would be light-hearted. The trans activists seem to derail a lot of discussions. Or did ...been ages since I was on it.

But I sometimes get redirected there after googling how to fix a leaky tap or whatever! Good in that way in fairness.

I did get a 3 day ban once but it was an error misinterpreting my words. They use auto-moderation and certain words are banned.

Not to be confused with AskBrits sub which is very right wing and full of Reform/Restore/Facebook users. You can tell as they post using emojis (this is frowned upon on Reddit).

There's good info there but the UX is dreadful. Honestly I think usenet was as good as it got.

The point that every thread on here needs to have at least one person shoe horn something in about it....

Depends what subs you join I guess. No issues here. And only use my browser - never the app.

Some subs are just pointless. There's a clothes one that won't let you say anything negative. One 15 year old was asking if her parents had a point when they won't let her wear this get up that wouldn't have looked out of place in a brothel.

I gave up in the end. Tried the words, cheap, trashy, too adult for you, too revealing, eventually resorted to 'it gives the impression you're looking for a certain kind of attention that you most definitely are not. ' Nope, not allowed.

It was a red leather corset that barely covered her nipples, it was so tight, laced with black ribbon, black leather looking skirt, long fur edged gloves and fur edged shrug. How else do you say 'you cannot wear that, just in case you need to cross the road and there's a misunderstanding?' But with no negative words?

Oh I know. I follow popculture and fauxmoi and they have some very strong (and wrong) opinions about jkr for example. But I just ignore those threads and read the gossip ones.

Set up your own subreddit then. It's easy enough to do

I love Reddit and I’ve never had any of those problems or found the rules particularly onerous. It also works just fine in my browser.

What subs are you joining and what are you posting?!

Reddit is great. Always someone willing to help. The (practical) knowledge of the world is being gathered there.
AI gets a lot of its responses from Reddit.

You can't ever have been on the various Bad Roommates and/or AITA subs. Plenty of "oooh you're such a doormat" snark on there (albeit often justifiably so).

Lol this just happened to me here on MN yesterday. They tell you to email with the incident Ray something something ID, except of course the most logical place to look up the email fir tech support is the very site they'd just loved me out of 🤣🤣.

I mean, it is full of tras because its a majority American site. But a lot of them can be avoided. I love the horror and horror book subs, I've gotten great suggestions from there.

Ok well r/norules exists. It’s still subject to reddit’s general terms though, no illegal content, harassment, etc.

But if you don’t get on with it you can just not use it. I had a similar issue with tictoc, just couldn’t get to grips with it at all, maybe I’m too old! It doesn’t make it wank though.

I like reddit, never had an issue with the app or getting posts deleted, as long as you follow the rules of the sub. People tend to be kind to each other, which is something you see less of on mumsnet. Everybody seems so angry on here.
