Bring back the death penalty in this case

No, it’s implied in the title it’s not going to be a thread about baking cakes. Do people really need spoon fed this information?

The death penalty doesn't really hurt the person you put to death. It hurts their family. Who are innocent.

However, I do think that people who have commited murder should be able to request euthanasia if they wish to.

Nobody is 'trying to excuse' them. Whatever gave you that idea?

What does the death penalty actually achieve? Does it deter murders, no, will it bring back the victim also no.

I'm a Christian too and my faith teaches me that all life is sacred, and that we have no right to end it. So no, I won't use my faith as an excuse for retributive 'justice'.

In fact I don't think faith has any place in the justice system at all, and I say that as someone who goes to Mass every Sunday.

Bringing emotion into any criminal case is just one of many reasons why the death penalty must never be reintroduced. How we might feel about a case is irrelevant. No civilised society should ever have capital punishment.

I don’t agree and neither does the law or else everyone would get the same conviction and sentence. Of course the death of the child is equally sad but there can absolutely be different levels of culpability and guilt.

That’s not how it works. You can’t pick and choose or introduce the death penalty for one case . Also why would YOU need to forgive anyone? Isn’t that up to your Lord to do? If you believe in him, you believe that this woman will be suitably punished for her actions… or not.

There would be people on a jury who would believe some sob story from her legal team, or who would never send someone to her death because of their opposition to the death penalty.

So life imprisonment is the alternative to a hung jury and possibly no conviction.

Yes. And it makes sense that they do. Because someone committing a crime will have a "feel" if they have crossed the death penalty threshold. And when they do, they have totally nothing to lose.

After all, if you are going to be executed for one murder, what difference do more murders make ?

Hard no on the death penalty. You cannot plan to kill a person, because they killed someone else.

Death penalties verdicts are political and often unjust. They solve nothing. They’re use disproportionately against minorities and the poorer people in society.
If Britain had the death penalty in the 70s 80s 90s there would be an awful Lot of dead Irish people, most of them innocent.

I know exactly what this psalm means. The last two verses are an exhortation to the Jewish people to enact vengeance against the children of the Babylonians - their oppressors.

Capital punishment is wrong.
Not for any religious reasons, it's just wrong.
Civilised societies must never consider voting to reinstate it.
I don't believe it's presence would reduce crime in any way.

The death penalty does not reduce murder rates, look at the US. So if it doesn’t deter, it would be to exact revenge on the woman for her actions. Which is a reasonable position, but for every 100 people who may deserve vengeance, there will be at least 1 wrongly convicted person, and the state therefore commits murder of an innocent.

This is exactly why I hate religion. If there is a god he is a cruel bastard.
