About the 80 page white floral dress thread. Update from the bride. Should I photoshop SILs white dress?

Hiya
Was umming and aahing about posting this here or in the chat section but AIBU is where the other threads were posted. IYKYK. I have had the (dis)pleasure of reading all 80 pages.

I'm the bride and I can confirm my SIL did turn up wearing the dress to the wedding. My best friend/MoH waited until after the wedding to show me the threads since some of the posts were a bit horrid tbh and she was so right I didn't need to see that before the wedding. She organised a post wedding girls night for me and the rest of our friends group who came to the wedding and that really was such a brilliant and surprisingly entertaining way to read through and digest it all with a few glasses of wine, some music and lots of love and support.

The consensus after last night's wine & whine is that I should keep shtum about the dress and the threads to MIL/SIL in person and that it would be better to create this thread and who knows they might come across it

Another idea that was floated last night was photoshopping the wedding photos with SIL in them to make her dress pink or yellow. If this is an awful idea we blame the wine!!

I'm quite confused. I remember the other thread and I thought the dress was fine. I can't see what the point of this thread is though.

Tabarnak · 16/07/2026 18:55

Well this is exciting!

Yeah, the dress was too white for any wedding where the bride wanted white reserved for the bride. It sticks out on photos, it's an old tradition, whatever.

AI is your friend - keep her in the photos but make subtle very unflattering adjustments.

Nothing like starting a marriage with a family feud 😂

You made me giggle just imagining it! Photoshopping the whole group sounds absolutely insane and hilarious... but I will pass on that idea.

Sorry about what happened at your wedding and glad to hear you are still married - congratulations to you too and thank you!

Regarding the questions:
On that day MIL showed me various dresses I told her each one was lovely and she would look great in them but every time I said something nice she said no I'm not going to wear this because [SIL] said it's an ugly dress or I'm too old to wear that or [SiL] doesn't like it. It was a really weird and pointless exercise and she had carefully laid out another white dress nearby and never mentioned it. It all came across a bit theatrical and rehearsed tbh.

I was the one that texted MiL not DH. I just said it would be a faux pas [where I am from] if you're going to wear the white dress on the day, but it is lovely and would be perfect for the day before. I was trying to bridge a cultural gap but it was stupid of me

I did get several comments from guests asking what my SiL was thinking wearing that hobbs dress which was exactly what I wanted to avoid by sending that text to MiL. In hindsight I realise it is not my problem if they embarrass themselves

DH only ever reminded them all about the dress code which I asked him to do because I had been told FiL was planning on wearing shorts with spider man printed across... MiL turned up to the pre-wedding party the day before in a black superman top.

If I remember the other thread correctly though, that white dress hanging up was SIL dress, but it wasn't THE dress that she was planning on wearing, did they do that to wind you up?

And you never mentioned it at the time, but then you text MIL to say she shouldn't wear white? Which she passed on to SIL which prompted her threads.

So what did MIL actually wear?

And were you offended by what SIL ended up wearing? It was a mixed bag of opinions on here.

Why are so many posters being twatty to the OP?

I remember the original thread, SIL was a right knob.

OP - maybe photoshop her out of the photos entirely. Get AI to replace her with someone less toxic. Maybe Aileen Wournos in her orange jump suit.

They're all as bad as each other. The dress in question was fine. It didn't need any comment from the bride but the wearer of the dress made a massive deal of the whe saga. Everyone involved, included the guests who commented comes across as an absolute dick.

I wasn't trying to sound funny or edgy, but I'm glad I have been able to make your day better than it would have been otherwise

I know youre not being funny or edgy, my comment was just a general reply to that pp. Im not sure what I think this thread is but definitely neither of those.

My day has remained completely average since opening this thread.

Marking my spot for when SIL finds this thread.

Salad sandwich, crisps and a mug of tea, for tea.

What crisps?

I'm commenting because it is my thread.

Why are you commenting?

Morbid curiosity?

notmoredirtywashing · 16/07/2026 18:49

the replies sound exactly like the SIL. Confress OP, this is a reverse isn’t it?

You know, I don't remember anything in Pulp Fiction before about wedding dresses and the odd nice enough floral frock that's sold as a wedding guest outfit.

When does Samuel L.Jackson come in with his biblical quotations?

Ah, that's right. The wedding dress is in Kill Bill. That's where the confusion has arisen.

It's because I'm tired and it's been a long day but the juxtaposition of these posts really made me snicker

I know!

I nearly edited to say that's not what I'm having for tea 🤣

BaronessBomburst · 16/07/2026 18:42

Please, please post photos!
You can put smilies over people's heads so that they're not identifying.
And please post a picture of your dress too.
I love a wedding.

Your sister in law will probably see this. Do you think she'll say anything to you?

What was the dress like? Is it that thread where the dress was a bold bright floral pattern with a white/cream/ivory background or was it a different thread?

Howyoualldoworkme · 16/07/2026 18:35

Bakewell ice cream? Where did you get this delight?

I think it's from Aldi. I bought it cheap from The Company Shop.

Oooh that sounds nice.

It's lovely, bit of mint in it from the garden, and some warmed flatbreads on the side
