I would be concerned that the (not soapy) spray of water going over one's anal area would end up spreading faecal particles over the entire genital area. They are very close together.

If you don't have bowel issues and you have a good diet, washing shouldn't really be necessary anyway as pp have said, and there's always the option of having your shower after going, and using hot water and soap.

(Obviously, this isn't the case for people with bowel issues.)

Yes, I live in Argentina, and here everyone uses a bidet. They're seen as an essential part of the bathroom, and it is so much more hygienic. In general though, personal hygiene standards are much higher in this part of the world. I'm lucky because my apartment has a Japanese toilet instead, which is a whole other level, but I'd not be comfortable without at least a bidet. In Brasil the hose attachment is very common - it's okay but less user friendly.

We have a bidet, was in the house when we bought it.
It's not just for poops, it's handy before and after sex to freshen up.

I prefer to attack the, ahem, ‘source’ of the problem and put some lubricant (water soluble) on my bum area beforehand. It helps with wiping and avoids any soreness, especially if you have piles - although I wouldn’t know about that myself of course! Then jump in the shower and you are ready for the day with a squeaky clean bum.

I quite like a bidet but haven't got room. I saw a communal pot/kettle type thing in restaurant the other day that made me boak a bit. Anything to wash your bum in/with shouldn't be in a public toilet really, that's less hygienic than just wiping and unless you have problems with your sphincter wiping is actually perfectly adequate.

And just like that everyone can get their bowels to perform to order.

I tend to think if you are doing the sorts of number twos that leave your bum in a such a mess that toilet paper doesn't resolve it, you might need more fibre in your diet.

We've had one put in every bathroom in all the houses we've lived in apart from our first home(tiny bathroom)
I dont understand why people are so against them ?ok if you dont want one or cant fit one in but personally think they are a brilliant thing to have.
For years I had very heavy periods and to be able to quickly freshen up with a good wash with water rather than wipes or having to have a full shower is great.Same for helping with UTIs.I bathe or shower daily anyway but its so useful to use in-between when needed.

Since when? My house had one but we had it taken out as it was never used and the space was better used for a storage unit

I think that’s a discussion for another thread. But it does divide opinion. My view is that it’s easier and quicker and better to hop in the shower than faff around splashing water around with a flannel. However I accept each to their own.

Was listening to two Indian guys on a podcast who said as part of their culture they wash their bums with water after a poo.
They said if you got poo on your arm you wouldn’t just wipe it off you would want to wash it off.
Never used to but I now tend to have a wash after going the toilet. If money were no object I would get a bum shower like Natsku said they do in Finland.

Minging bucket and flannel. Do you boil wash them? I know wipes in the toilet are an environmental catastrophe, but boil washing a flannel every time you have a poo is terrible too (two? Boom boom 🙄)
