To think 30 is middle

And the denial within society isn’t helpful

OP posts:
TheGreatDownandOut · 14/07/2026 17:41

30 what? Celsius? No, that’s not middle that’s quite hot.
Do you mean salary? You’d probably be closer with that.
Inches? Nah, that’s painfully long.

If you’re talking about age then you’re talking out of your arse. Not least because medical advances will mean someone who is 30 today will probably live to be over 100 so mid life would be around 50.

Coconutter24 · 14/07/2026 17:38

30 is middle… what??
Age, waistline, salary, the length of your kitchen?
Add a bit more context

SpaceRaccoon · 14/07/2026 17:38

No 30 is still young.

TheChaffinch · 14/07/2026 17:38

Following another thread I was thinking about this. Perspective is different depending how old you are.

My scale
0 -18. - Child
18 -25 - Very Young
25-40. - Young
40-59 - Middle aged
60-75 - Older
75-85. - Old
85+ - Elderly

BurntBroccoli · 14/07/2026 17:38

I certainly don’t feel “old” as in elderly as I’m approaching my 60s.

Floppyearedlab · 14/07/2026 17:38

I am 35 and I still consider my young

Over40Overdating · 14/07/2026 17:37

Desperate for attention aren’t you. Maybe spend less time being jealous of your child (if they are real) having a life and get one of your own.

I’d feel sorry for how sad you are but regardless of who you IRL are I imagine you’re pretty unlikeable, so I’ll save it.

AustenitesUnite · 14/07/2026 17:34

If you're talking about age OP @Middleaged77 (and, to be quite honest, it's not at all clear what you are talking about) age is just a number

I have a friend who plays netball and tennis, goes cold water swimming, belongs to quite a few clubs and activities and is also a carer for an elderly family member. She loves fashion and enjoys visiting London for the shopping and theatre. She is in her 70's

I also know someone who seems to be quite old, is obsessed with her many health issues and dresses in quite an old-fashioned way. She has no interests at all and is in her 40's

Age is just one small factor that helps define who we are ~ in my opinion it's not the most important one!

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 14/07/2026 17:33

If it so happens that OP is talking about middle-aged, I don't get the several people on here who gainsay that on the basis that most people live beyond 60. Middle-aged is a stage of life; not just one single year.

It would be like saying that, if a 7yo counts as a 'child', that must mean that a 3yo, or a 6yo, or an 11yo can't be as well.

Many people like to apply 'vanity sizing' to their age as well as their clothes size - and pretend that 'middle-aged' - and certainly 'old' are both somehow negative things to be AND by default can only possibly apply to other people but never me. Next thing, we'll be seeing exciting feature articles all about what David Attenborough hopes to be and do when he grows up!!

dancingdeidre · 14/07/2026 17:30

Another thread with one post from the OP, just a few words long. What on earth is the point of these threads? Is the point to teach AI to respond or something? Though in this case some real people have responded.

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 14/07/2026 17:25

30 is indeed the middle score that you can get with one dart - unless it's on a traditional Yorkshire board, in which case it's 20.

I'm sorry if anybody disagrees, but you are wrong - and I will stake my Swan teasmaid, my speedboat and my BFH on that fact (but my bendy Bully is completely off the table).

RetiredFromExplaining · 14/07/2026 17:24

Maybe the OP should ask herself what it is she doesn’t like about her daughter’s boyfriend. Is it that her daughter is becoming independent from her? Or is he an arsehole?

Or is the OP angry her daughter isn’t dating the nice boy her own age who behaves like a teenager?

When my ex husband left I was 28. I went and shagged a 65 year old. In Paris. It was terrific. He was definitely older than middle aged. And he’s probably dead now. Because I’m 57 and definitely middle aged.

Get over it.

BatsInHibernation · 14/07/2026 17:22

No, 30 is not middle.
Middle age is not even 40, although that would make the most sense. It's defined (Cambridge dictionary) as mid forties to early sixties. A time that bridges youth to old age.
30 is not middle aged and hasn't been for a few centuries.

Notverylikely · 14/07/2026 17:22

I suspect this has something to do with the recent question where the OP was horrified because her daughter (in her early 20s I think) was going out with a "middle-aged" man who was, I think, 30 or 32.

Dillydollydingdong · 14/07/2026 16:44

So in my mind I'm middle aged... how old am I?

Well into your 60s, at least. Sorry, you are not middle aged. Unless you look substantially older than you are. And I say that as someone who is not that far behind you agewise!

MajorProcrastination · 14/07/2026 17:21

Middleaged77 · 14/07/2026 14:50

And the denial within society isn’t helpful

You are still wrong. As discussed in your previous post about your 22 year old daughter and her 29 year old boyfriend.

30 is not middle aged.

That's my opinion as someone who is 43 and wouldn't consider myself middle aged. Here is some very quick further reading for you on why and how you are still wrong:

45-60 (Cambridge Dictionary)
MIDDLE AGE | English meaning - Cambridge Dictionary

"Previous studies have pinpointed the start of middle age as early as 36." "However, a sizeable minority, nearly one in five, thought middle age did not begin until after the age of 60."
Middle age begins at 55 years, survey suggests - BBC News

"Back in the day, 40 was the marker for midlife, but now, finding consensus on when middle age begins and what it represents isn’t easy. The Collins English dictionary gnomically defines it as “the period in your life when you are no longer young but have not yet become old”. The Encyclopaedia Britannica says it is between 40 and 60. Meanwhile, a 2018 YouGov survey reported that most Britons aged between 40 and 64 considered themselves middle-aged – but so did 44% of people aged between 65 and 69."
Whatever happened to middle age? The mysterious case of the disappearing life stage | Ageing | The Guardian

middle age

1. the period of your life, usually considered to be from about 45 to 60 years…

https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/middle-age

hahabahbag · 14/07/2026 17:18

Average life expectancy is around 80, first 18-21 years is childhood and adolescence so based on that young is 20-40, middle is 40-60 and old is 60+ though really it’s more 45+ for middle and 70+ for old these days because actually if you make it that far many live to 90

peaceatnight · 14/07/2026 17:16

ChocolateSqueezyyogurts · 14/07/2026 16:59

Middle age is about 50-55 its half way through your adult life, not whole life

How many people do you know who live to 110!?!

Average life span for women is 81, I think, slightly lower for men. So 40 is middle aged.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/07/2026 17:14

Has the OP actually left school yet, I wonder?

peaceatnight · 14/07/2026 17:14

Failing to articulate your point isn't helpful....

Lou7171 · 14/07/2026 17:14

Why do you keep posting such weird shit😂

AnonyMumAuDHD · 14/07/2026 17:13

So, no. Based on an average life span of 0-80, middle age is generally deemed to be 45-65. Ie approximately the middle 1/3 of our adult lifespan. (Childhood 0-18/21, Adulthood 21-45 Middle Age 45-65, Old age 65+). Obviously as laws change and life expectancy changes, perspectives about when the three stages of adulthood begin and end change and these rough ages expand. Personally, I plan to skip middle age entirely and just remain an ‘adult’ until a medical professional tells me that perhaps I am now old. Hopefully in my late 70s.

You are confusing ‘middle’ with ‘midpoint’ - the latter being unknown and undefinable until we die.

But I suspect you know this.

Uricon2 · 14/07/2026 17:13

Not more of this ridiculous nonsense @Middleaged77

beencaughttrollin · 14/07/2026 17:12

If your daughter's 22 she's already way past it in TikTok years. The real taste arbiters are age 7-12. Might as well date the middle aged bloke, even if he's only 30.
