AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

@ExplodingSmittens very, it didn’t happen but have to admire the imagination I suppose

Annoying isn’t it.

Interesting first post OP.

I would have ended the date there and then as soon as he did it.

Next time don't wait. Say that you're leaving, get your coat, pay half the bill at the bar or the exit area and don't look back.

I can understand why you didn’t leave, we are so conditioned to put up with appalling behaviour from Men.

You know what to do next time though and it’s exactly ^this.

Have you blocked him now?

Walkerzoo · 14/07/2026 19:27

I would give his details to the restaurant as Nd name and shame
And blocking him. Vile

Bikergran · 14/07/2026 19:23

Nasty piece of work. Just block him on rvery channel.

Bobcurlygirl · 14/07/2026 19:15

God no.. Bin him.
He will be throwing food on the floor and expecting you to mop up... Huge red flags

Idiot man, no manners, no respect for your feelings and no respect for restaurant staff, he's shown you his true colours early enough, thank goodness

wherethewildrosesgrow · 14/07/2026 19:09

‘I didn’t fancy you much anyway, fucking lesbian’
message incomiiiiiiiing.

He is the sort of man that all women need to avoid.

RoseOliviaAu · 14/07/2026 19:05

I wouldn’t see him again. How disrespectful to the staff and plain weird. I’d tell him it was a really rude thing to do and no I don’t want another date.

BiteSizedLife · 14/07/2026 19:02

FaceIt · 14/07/2026 18:59

What a sad man. How embarrassing.

Did the ground open up and swallow you up. Sadly I shouldn’t think it did 😩

He obviously hasn’t got a stop valve. I wouldn’t touch the arsehole with a barge pole.

EmmaB1309 · 14/07/2026 18:53

OMG that’s horrible. No way would I be seeing him again. He clearly has no respect for (female) wait staff. What a pig.

ImAPigeonPerson · 14/07/2026 18:47

That behaviour is vile. He was waving a big, red flag in your face. It could have been a boundaries test, to see how you would react and what sort of unhinged stuff he can get away with.

I’d have walked out on the date there and then and not even given him the dignity of a goodbye.

He has shown early on what he actually is, and he really ain’t good.

Looking4Summer · 14/07/2026 18:45

Huge red flag.

Making a mess with food/drink quite a typical behaviour for a controlling and abusive personality.
Usually it happens in the home so the fact he's doing this in public is showing he lacks even the boundary to keep his behaviour under wraps.

He's done you a favour. Do not go out with him again.

take10yearsofmylife · 14/07/2026 18:44

YABU to even ask 😂

You can tell a lot about a person’s character by how they treat people who can do nothing for them.

Or how they treat restaurant staff........

Comeinsideforacupoftea · 14/07/2026 18:38

Come on OP! This isn't just a quirk it's thoroughly unpleasant and weird behaviour. I don't think you need a mn thread to tell you you should be running a mile

ClairDeLaLune · 14/07/2026 18:37

Darragon · 14/07/2026 14:09

Write "you're dumped" on a whoopee cushion. It's probably about his intellectual level.

Haha! Do this OP!

ConstantlyFuriosa · 14/07/2026 18:36

Another thread to rile people up, I think.

Plasticdreams · 14/07/2026 18:32

Op has disappeared and only made one post. I'm not sure this is legit.

Sassylovesbooks · 14/07/2026 18:27

All he did was show himself up in front of you and other diners. So, he didn't like the wine, he didn't have to drink it. He could have easily left it. He chose to deliberately pour the wine on the floor instead. It was juvenile, and showed a complete lack of respect to the restaurant, you and other people in there enjoying a meal. I wonder if it was an attempt to 'show off' in front of you? If so, it backfired.

I wouldn't be keen on having another date. It depends if you like him? I may go for a fourth, to give him the benefit of the doubt... possibly!!

winter8090 · 14/07/2026 18:26

Definitely would put me off.
I’m trying to decide if i would try and see if it was a one off (through nervousness for example) or a pattern of behaviour.

BlueHydrangea7 · 14/07/2026 18:23

You have to wonder who he has been around all his life to make him think this kind of behaviour is amusing. His friends and family must be arrogant, entitled dickheads.

He's a monumental embarrassment and then tries to gaslight you into thinking you're the weird one for going on about it. Please don't see him again.
