AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

The fact someone could have been seriously hurt, if carrying hot food and slipped in it, makes him a mega twat.

k1233 · 14/07/2026 21:52

I'd be telling him he's a disrespectful prick and blocking him. That's just rude and adds an unnecessary task for wait staff. It's a sign of how he treats people who he doesn't see as equals. At best he's inconsiderate and I wouldn't tolerate that in a relationship.

Felixmyicecreamillbashim · 14/07/2026 21:51

I'd be tempted to pass on his name and phone number to the restaurant, they could pursue for cleaning costs. But I'm petty like that.

He's an absolute asshole.

Why didn't you call him on it then and there?
Walk away?

Dump and block.

It's a bit concerning you aren't sure about this.

It’s a bit concerning you can’t see this thread for what it is

3rd date? Not a chance! If I’m honest I probably wouldn’t have seen the 2nd through to the end.

His behaviour was really embarrassing, I absolutely would not be with someone that didn’t know how to act appropriately in a public place. Throw this one back OP

OwnHappiness · 14/07/2026 21:43

#team no 3rd date

Dancethroughthestorm · 14/07/2026 21:39

Block. Throw away the phone. Get rid!

The End

OneNewLeader · 14/07/2026 21:35

Under reacted if you’re considering replying.

Nanda66 · 14/07/2026 21:35

If someone did that when I was with them I’d get up and walk out.

You really shouldn't date toddlers!

This really made me think. It's the sort of thing that a toddler might do, and if so I'd be embarrassed, cross, and would apologise and offer to clean it up. Understandable with a toddler. A grown adult should not be behaving like this or putting you in that position. I'd respond and say, 'Yes still this. Your behaviour is unattractive and I'm choosing not to pursue this relationship.' Well dodged OP!

Ick.

You can tell a lot about a person’s character by how they treat people who can do nothing for them.

This, the bar is so, so very low.

parthyphibday · 14/07/2026 21:29

He's testing you. Pushing social boundaries and gaslighting you when you intimate you found it weird. This is 100% a test you want to fail. Run now!

TheReflectiveQualityofGlass · 14/07/2026 21:25

3269 Votes so far. 99% think he’s a twunt.

Who was the 1% I wonder? May be the date himself?

clearlyy · 14/07/2026 21:24

Where’s OP gone?

RumPidgeon · 14/07/2026 21:20

Sends my spider senses off. Disrespectful and ill-mannered bravado. The type to break something you love just to get back at you. His reply „still on that“ is telling. Probably hurts animals in his spare time.

Ditch him!

FreyaonFire · 14/07/2026 21:15

Horrendous behaviour, totally unacceptable. The fact that he sees no issue with it and still sees it as a laughing matter - grim. This is one to run away from.

@Sidebeforeself no, I think it’s annoying and not real

And so many posters who clearly have t read the thread coming on and offering advice

foxinasnowstorm · 14/07/2026 21:07

He’s an entitled child. I wouldn’t be seeing him again or entertaining his whiny texts.

YourAquaLion · 14/07/2026 21:01

Just really weird! And I hate waste so it’d be a hard no from me. He should have offered it to you! And for him to message back “still on that are you?” Back to you rather than “sorry yes that was a bit weird of me, I wish I hadn’t done that I was trying to be funny” is a big NO.

There's a reason why some people are single.....
