AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

absolutely not overreacting!!! Childish, embarrassing, totally disrespectful to the restuarant and the poor waiter to had to clean it up and mortifying for you? If he thought this would impress you on a second date imagine how he will act if you had seen him a while 🙈 you have had a lucky escape !!

MyFairLady22 · 15/07/2026 18:04

No. No third date. What next? He chucks his dinner at the wall?

I once overlooked a date who kept licking his knife. Big mistake.

Shellyshep · 15/07/2026 18:04

No you’re not overreacting and his comment asking if you’re “still on that” should tell you all you need to know… there absolutely wouldn’t be a third date of if I were you!

Schoolsec · 15/07/2026 18:01

Beyond rude and so entitled. Wouldn't want anyone like that in my life.

Mossley · 15/07/2026 18:01

What an arse, flexing his male ego........be thankful it happened, you don't have to waste any more time on him.

OldScribbler · 15/07/2026 18:00

The man is obviously a 100% diamond studded twat. Lucky escape.
How does anyone become so moronic?

PinkKittyGirl · 15/07/2026 18:00

He's acting like a toddler and even my toddler doesn't purposely spill drinks on the floor! I would've left as soon as he poured the wine on the floor and I blocked him straight away, it just shows he has a pack of respect towards others, sooner or later that lack of respect would've been shown to you so you've dodged a bullet x

He needs binning off OP. He sounds vile

Calmdownfolks · 15/07/2026 17:58

Agree he might be testing you with this behaviour

frankiefirstyear · 15/07/2026 17:57

Run don’t walk

Lunaticmess · 15/07/2026 17:55

Utterly bizarre behaviour. Disrespectful, entitled, and wasteful. Restaurant wine is not exactly cheap these days, either. Get out while you can.

ThatAdeptDreamer · 15/07/2026 17:51

Dump him
Now.
He's rude, arrogant and has no respect for waiting stsff.
I cannot believe you've even had to put this out there.

BordersMumof4 · 15/07/2026 17:50

No 3rd date

Niccinuuxx · 15/07/2026 17:41

It's a shame they didn't throw him out or he slipped on the wet floor afterwards!

CherryVanillaPie · 15/07/2026 15:40

He might graduate on to spilling wine on the kitchen floor and laughing as he makes you mop it up if he treated the waitress that disrespectfully.

I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

He's mocking you for reacting normally to try and make you feel silly.

Bluedenimdoglover · 15/07/2026 13:45

If that's how he behaves in public, what on earth is he like in private......?

TheReflectiveQualityofGlass · 15/07/2026 12:32

Jk987 · 14/07/2026 22:51

Is he very inexperienced at dating?

Dating? If he thinks this is acceptable then the only excuse is that he is cognitively impaired and has a significant neuro issue.

Best guess is he’s testing her compliance.

MummaBear2017 · 15/07/2026 12:16

He’s shown you who he really is. Rude, disrespectful and you’d be on the receiving end soon enough.

Nannylovesshopping · 15/07/2026 08:11

Surely you are not considering seeing him again…

Aslana · 15/07/2026 08:00

Lack of respect to people serving in restaurants or anywhere else is a total no no. Awful behaviour and gloating as well
Goodbye!

firstofallimadelight · 15/07/2026 07:03

Arrogant ignorant person. It would be a no from me.

Wecanbeheroes26 · 15/07/2026 05:52

He's an utter grub. Who does that?! I'd have walked out then and there. Imagine a future with him.... he will act like the filthy pig he is, but instead of a waitress YOU will be the person he expects to clean up after him.

CurlewKate · 15/07/2026 05:10

MammaofBree · 14/07/2026 22:44

Walk away now while the doubts are stronger than the feelings!

ignore your gut feeling and you will potentially regret it.

It’s not a matter of “gut feelings”. It’s a matter of normal civilized behaviour.

Jllllllll · 15/07/2026 02:37

What a twat!

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 14/07/2026 23:39

At least you learnt what he’s like on the second date. Who over the age of 1 deliberately pouts a drink on the floor in a restaurant
