AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

I thought you were going to say he dumped it in a plant pot, which would be bad enough. But he deliberately spilled it on the floor?! He sounds fucking weird.

VoteForCountBinface · 14/07/2026 14:56

YABU for asking. The man is clearly a dickhead.

Wetcoatsandmudagain · 14/07/2026 14:55

Very strange behaviour. I would have quietly left there and then blocked his number and been mightily relieved I dodged that one.

angelos02 · 14/07/2026 14:54

That is awful behaviour. I would have walked out. Who ended up cleaning it up? Poor staff probably. Vile behaviour. Did he thrown a load of £50 notes on the table when he left & laugh like a toff too?!

Seriestwo · 14/07/2026 14:54

Just send him a link to this thread.

what a monumental man child.

WallaceinAnderland · 14/07/2026 14:50

I'm amazed you have to ask OP

Doingtheboxerbeat · 14/07/2026 14:49

Imagine him meeting your mates 😫 and pulling hilarious shit like this. Oh god, I can't bear the embarrassment.

NCOneDayOnly · 14/07/2026 14:49

He sounds cretinous. Bin him off.

Franjipanl8r · 14/07/2026 14:49

I’d have been so overwhelmed by the ick at that point I’d have just left there and then. Complete lack of respect for the waiting staff and other diners.

You can tell a lot about date from the way they treat wait staff. He thought it would be funny and impressive to treat someone with utter contempt. One day, that will be you.

Came here to say this! Ive never met anyone whose disrespectful to wait staff whose otherwise a lovely person.

Twat

DogSnufflySnout · 14/07/2026 14:46

First post nails it for me!

Having worked in hospitality for many years, our working lives are often blighted by prats like this… they always think they’re “funny” or that it’s “ part of our job” to deal with this nonsense. Seriously, in what universe is this behaviour funny?

Thank God I’m retiring in a few weeks.

You can do soooo much better, OP!

Kimmers4334 · 14/07/2026 14:45

I don’t really know why but him doing that makes me assume he is really selfish in bed. What an ape

darksideofthetoon · 14/07/2026 14:45

If that’s how he behaves in a good mood on a 2nd date, imagine how he would be in a bad mood, some time down the road.

krustykittens · 14/07/2026 14:45

GreenWheat · 14/07/2026 14:43

I wouldn't have even stayed to the end of the meal. What a monumental prick.

wishingonastar101 · 14/07/2026 14:42

I think you can tell a lot about a man by how he treats service staff (couldn't think of another term... workers?) anyway, like if he is polite to waiting staff, says thank you to the taxi, bus driver etc. Basic level of being decent and nice... it's the foundations of a good egg.
He is not a good egg.

dottiedodah · 14/07/2026 14:42

Just be glad you are not living with him, and were expected to clean up at home! Really what dreadful behaviour and well embarrassing for you too.Is he over 18? Sounds like an emotionally retarded 15 year old! Dump Dump Dump all the way home!

You can tell a lot about a person’s character by how they treat people who can do nothing for them.

Amazing expression and I wholeheartedly agree.

Berlinlover · 14/07/2026 14:41

Who cleaned it up?

Gardenisablooming · 14/07/2026 14:40

Can you imagine the state of his home?

bronnibro · 14/07/2026 14:40

How weird! And embarrassing, I thought you meant a outside bar and that was bad enough but inside? I've never ever seen that, and yeah it's really rude to the staff and would also give me the massive ick

Bogstandardname · 14/07/2026 14:39

You really need to ask?! What an absolute tosser. If you continue with this relationship you will deserve everything you will get. When someone shows you who they are then you'd better believe them.

icingonmycupcake · 14/07/2026 14:39

I'm surprised you're even considering on seeing him again tbh. Bin him.

Arlanymor · 14/07/2026 14:37

I would have given him the Paddington Bear stare and asked: "Are you going to clear that up given you deliberately spilled it?" And then of course would have left without a backward glance, what a pig. Sorry, no, that's unfair... to pigs.
