AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

You don't seriously think that you're overreacting do you?

When he asked if you'd had a good time why didn't you just tell him no?

BettyJoanPerske · 14/07/2026 15:11

That's very odd behaviour. There shouldn't be a third date.

LondonLass2026 · 14/07/2026 15:11

Horrible man with a "someone else will clean that up" mentality. And then the "you still hung up on that?" comment.

I'd never, ever see this fool again.

Bigtrapeze · 14/07/2026 15:11

OP, this is like littering and wasting wine in one fell swoop with a side of disrespect to waiting staff. No.

SwatTheTwit · 14/07/2026 15:09

I feel like that was one of those moments where the reasonable reaction would have been to get up and walk away, what a dick.

Many moons ago (as a teen) I was out for lunch with my then bf and he grabbed the plate and put it on the floor for the local ducks. I never wished so hard the floor had swallowed me whole, I can still feel everyone’s eyes on us. Like you I just stayed there dumbfounded, but it was the first of many red flags.

ForUmberFinch · 14/07/2026 15:09

What a toad! Absolutely not unreasonable. The disrespect for the restaurant/staff would have been enough for me to walk out there and then

Fucking animal. A three year old would know that was wrong.

And a 3 year old would also know it's not unreasonable to be put off by it.

Such a strange thread.

I wonder if we'll see the OP again?

PeachySmile2 · 14/07/2026 15:08

Yuck. If he does that on the first date, god knows what he’d do on the third. What a disgusting person

Moveoverdarlin · 14/07/2026 15:08

Fucking animal. A three year old would know that was wrong.

spiderlight · 14/07/2026 15:07

What an absolutely vile, disrespectful thing to do. Please block him immediately and don't see him again - if he's like that in public, God only knows how he behaves in private.

Horses7 · 14/07/2026 15:06

He’s nuts and you can’t be desperate enough to go on another date with this very strange guy.

midJulytarget · 14/07/2026 15:06

Reminds me of the sort of thing the Prince Andrew character in the Windsors would do. And even Fergie struggled to find him funny.

pigsDOfly · 14/07/2026 15:06

Yeah, definitely no third date.

He's an odious little prick.

FinallyHere · 14/07/2026 15:06

Dodged a bullet there.

MsGreying · 14/07/2026 15:05

indoors?

I mean, I'd think it was a bit odd outside too, but indoors is just proper twatty.

Skippythemeh · 14/07/2026 15:03

Did he at least get some napkins and clean it up?
My reaction would have been, “Are you going to clean that up?” and then the date would be over.

What an arrogant, selfish prick. Obviously you end it now. Is this really the sort of behaviour you want to be on the edge of worrying about all the time? And the way he treated the staff as well - pouring wine on the floor for them to clean? Nah.

XMissPlacedX · 14/07/2026 15:02

Well done for telling him the reason, he will obviously try to play it down. May teach him a lesson in the future that woman don’t like disrespectful immature show off’s.

Snazzysausage · 14/07/2026 15:01

If I'd have seen someone deliberately pour any sort of liquid onto the floor of a restaurant, I'd think they were a loon.
I would instantly ask for my portion of the bill up to that point, pay, and be out of there as fast as a rabbit out of a trap.

PosieNosie · 14/07/2026 15:01

Would be an immediate hard no from me. It was stupid, because it could have caused someone to slip, and it was disrespectful, because he clearly didn't give a shit who would have to clean it up. Both of those would be enough for me to end it immediately.

Was he wearing a shirt and tie or just a huge red flag?! :-O

Inside or outside restaurant?

Justanopinionnothingmore · 14/07/2026 14:59

You have to ask? I'd have paid my share and left then as I'd have been so embarrassed.

Wishimaywishimight · 14/07/2026 14:59

I can't believe you are even asking. He is an utter arsehole.

IAMFLUFF · 14/07/2026 14:58

GreenWheat · 14/07/2026 14:43

I wouldn't have even stayed to the end of the meal. What a monumental prick.

Chuck this one back in the pond OP

Pinkgin00 · 14/07/2026 14:58

As if you have to ask if you are being unreasonable?

He showed a complete lack of respect, and it wasn't funny. Dump him!
