AIBU to be put off after he poured wine on the floor?

2nd date, sat in restaurant and we each had a glass of wine. He commented that he wasn’t keen on the wine and said he’d get a soft drink next time. I finished my drink and he had half of his glass left so I said I was going to get another drink and did he want to get a soft drink now or was he going to finish his wine. He picked up the glass, tipped the wine onto the floor (!!!!!!) and said “finished” and laughed. Several people saw him do it. I was mortified and said “did you really just tip that onto the floor??” And he acted like he was a bit embarrassed but laughed and said he didn’t like it. Waitress came across, noticed the puddle on the floor and he laughed and said “sorry about that” whilst looking at me like he was expecting me to laugh.

after the date he messaged me saying he’d had a good time and asked if I had and I replied “I’m still processing the sight of someone purposely spilling half a glass of wine onto a restaurant floor….” And he replied “still on that? Seriously? 😂”

am I over reacting?? It’s really put me off

I wouldn’t accept that from a three year old!

WeNeedaDiagram · 14/07/2026 17:00

He could have chosen to wear a badge saying ‘I’m really, really odd’. Instead he demonstrated it. Either way, dump immediately.

schoolstruggle · 14/07/2026 16:59

Yeah this is weird.

If he’d done it impulsively and then was embarrassed that he different. If it was done impulsively and instantly regretted he’d have been jumping up to get towels etc to mop it up.

The fact he thought it was funny and someone else should clear it up. Nope 🚩🚩🚩

Happyjoe · 14/07/2026 16:58

Good grief, what a moron!

No 3rd date from me. 🏃

To be honest, the 2nd date would have ended prematurely.

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 14/07/2026 16:57

No social etiquette. I would be mortified. He probably has a lot of other unacceptable traits that haven't manifested yet. I wouldn't take things any further

Gotback · 14/07/2026 16:55

It's not just disrespect to the waiting staff but to anyone sitting near your table. I assume he tipped it from the height of the table, so it would have splashed up anyone's white chinos, long dress, nice shoes etc if they were at the next table. What a wanker.

tachetastic · 14/07/2026 16:50

Nah, he's a wanker of the highest order, and he can't even blame it on being drunk. Eventually the lack of respect he showed to the restaurant staff will start coming out towards you, your friends and your family. Throw him back while its easy, @Magnesiun.

OonaStubbs · 14/07/2026 16:50

Did he say "one for me, one for my homies" when pouring the drink onto the floor?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 14/07/2026 16:48

What a weirdo. If you had been outside and he poured it onto the grass then its semi acceptable but on a floor inside a pub/restaurant is scruffy and disrespectful.

JustSawJohnny · 14/07/2026 16:47

Naaaah, he's a disrespectful prick.

Get him gone.

GordanoServices · 14/07/2026 16:46

Urgh. What a child.

Bamboozledbylife · 14/07/2026 16:45

Yabu even thinking about that answer! What a cock. Disrespectful and ignorant. Get rid.

OnlyHasEyesForLoki · 14/07/2026 16:45

I would have been so embarrassed and horrified that the waitress thought I was a part of that dreadful behaviour. I would have asked him to clean it up with napkins immediately and there definitely wouldn’t have been another date.

SallyD00lally · 14/07/2026 14:21

Sorry but I think you both come across as quite strange.

Him for tipping his wine on the floor.

You for asking if you're overreacting to be put off a man who does this.

This. The whole thing is batshit. If someone did that on a date with me, I would have ended the date then and there and blocked. It isn’t remotely funny, it’s grossly rude and disrespectful. That you carried on with the date and have to question if it’s ok or not is almost equally as bad.

Viviennemary · 14/07/2026 16:43

Get rid.

BuildbyNumbere · 14/07/2026 16:43

Very strange

He'll go through life making literal and metaphorical messes and assuming it's up to the nearest woman to clean them up. Run, OP.

Ugh yes

KatyAnnwillsaveus · 14/07/2026 16:26

Bin off this arsehole, he sounds like a toddler. It's probably a red flag that he'll be horrible in other ways. I always think the way people treat waiting staff is a sign of their character, and he clearly didn't care about deliberately creating mess for someone else to clean up.

This
No repect for other people's property or time

Whatthefork1 · 14/07/2026 16:40

What strange behaviour from a full grown man, assuming he is of course. Definitely not over reacting. He has no respect. Ditch him pronto.

IdaGlossop · 14/07/2026 16:39

BillieWiper · 14/07/2026 16:32

I'm sorry to hear that. It's really scary isn't it? For the sufferer and those around them. I hope she's better now?

It is scary. Thank-you for asking about her. She died many years ago.

Elsvieta · 14/07/2026 16:38

TheThirteenthFairy · 14/07/2026 15:28

It makes me know for a fact that he'll pee on the seat and the floor and leave it there.

DidYeAye16 · 14/07/2026 16:37

Were you on a date with drop dead fred?

PussyGaylore · 14/07/2026 16:37

Very disrespectful- bin him.

TicklishMintDuck · 14/07/2026 16:36

I think I would have struggled to continue with the evening after that.
