Personally I’m on the fence

True @gingangirly it very much is.

No not at all. I know a lovely lady called Kyra so I definitely don't think it is chavy at all.

Funnily enough I knew one who was an absolute cow and a bit free with her favours!

objectivity is obviously dependent on who you knew! 😂

AmusedMaker · 13/07/2026 18:10

It’s funny - I don’t like it, but I think Kyla is a beautiful name ( and they’re quite similar )

avocadotofu · 13/07/2026 18:01

Yes

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 13/07/2026 18:00

No. Never heard it!

RubyFatball · 13/07/2026 17:57

I know a Kyra, whose parents are both Indian. I think it’s a lovely name.

potterspot · 13/07/2026 17:55

@Needmorelegothe racism normally keeps me away.

thisandthats · 13/07/2026 17:49

In the US it's definitely a trailer trash name. Never come across it in the UK really.

@DoaWheelieWhat’s wrong with name Aidan?! Why are assuming he would be a sibling?

It's more of that snobby attitude.
I am really starting to hate these threads.

Maddy70 · 13/07/2026 17:16

I know a couple but I don't live in the UK

Katflapkit · 13/07/2026 17:16

I'm Sweden, locally, we have a couple of Tyras - pronounced tear-ra.

SadiraOfTyr · 13/07/2026 17:12

The only Kyra I know is Swiss and definitely not ‘common’. She is lovely though. And extraordinarily wealthy.

FunkyFringe · 13/07/2026 16:27

It’s one of those J, K and Z names. Not the worst.

midlifeattheoasis · 13/07/2026 16:23

It’s horrible

Sharptonguedwoman · 13/07/2026 16:13

DoAWheelie · 12/07/2026 22:47

I'd assume she had a sibling called Aiden or similar.

Bit harsh. Aiden's an old name- see Aiden of Lindisfarne. But yes, Kyra is a bit common.

Harrietsaunt · 13/07/2026 16:05

It’s dreadful

HRTQueen · 13/07/2026 16:03

I think its a lovely name, my ex mil's name and pronounced Keeira

Many people didn't like my name growing up but often told its a lovely name now

don't worry about it those that think names or bows in hair or hairbands (the list is very long...) are chavvy are best ignored

PartoftheBand · 13/07/2026 15:56

It's OK but I wouldn't name a child it as I think they'd spend their whole life with people getting the pronunciation and/ or spelling wrong.

Evakan · 13/07/2026 15:45

It's a traditional greek name- I like it as long as you pronounce it kee-rah. I don't like kai-rah.

FallenNight · 13/07/2026 15:44

I interviewed a Kyra about 6 months ago, its was the first time I had heard the name. So not common. But I kept embarrassingly calling her Keira as that name is more familiar, luckily she didn't take offense and was confident enough to correct me.

She is now a hard working, likeable, intelligent and confident member of the team. Now goes on my names I like list through association.

ToadRage · 13/07/2026 15:39

I don't like it, it sounds chavvy to me and too close to Kyla which was the name of I girl in school i did not get on with.

allthiscarryon · 13/07/2026 15:38

Name101019 · 12/07/2026 22:32

As in “chavvy”

Not in the US where it’s fairly common - as in popular, not chavvy

Rothburypixie · 13/07/2026 15:37

I don’t mind Kyra, I can’t say I’ve ever met one, know a Kyla though. It’s a nicer name than Keira imo, maybe because I have a dislike of Keira Knightley 😂

BillieWiper · 13/07/2026 15:36

I've not seen it used before. It's ok. Not great but not horrible. I prefer Keira.
