If the OP goes to the bar and brings all the "non AI" members of the party a cocktail each is that OK?
If they sneak into the restaurant and have free meals, is that OK?

I wouldn't change my behaviour out of fear. If I think something is wrong, I will speak out. If everyone shied away and stayed quiet when people did things wrong, we'd all be speaking German right now.

Again I’m afraid you’ve got little understanding of profit and loss v’s opportunity. Yes the numbers are calculated on P&L but they’ll put the numbers up anyway even if they made nothing but pure profit on the 50 people they’ll still double it because why not? You’d stupidly pay it.

Costs will be based on how much is consumed, so if they budget for 50 people, and 100 use it, then next years costs will reflect this. Same as those not declaring income because they get paid in cash, it means costs are shared amongst a smaller pool of those who do pay. Pretending it doesn't impact costs is just justifying taking something you didn't pay for. Walk into a shop, pick up a bottle of water, and tell them it doesn't matter if you pay for it. Should be a fun day for security.

Some people have an odd attitude to AI.

For a certain type of holiday with smaller kids around a pool you save a fortune - drinks, ice cream, lollies, chips all included.

They have three choices:
1 they can shut the hell up and stop being complete morons.
2 they can pay the upgrade
3 insist your DC don’t use the AI but agree to pay for everything they want as you’ve already paid for it anyway

Am perplexed as to why BiL recommended/chose an AI hotel and then didn’t bloody book AI!! Everyone knows it works out better value - that’s the model!

Your BiL is outrageous! Of course he can't stop your kids from using the AI, and shouldn't have asked. In his position, I would be doing a lot more away from the hotel, and away from your family - for example, days out and meals in our apartment/room as SC. Would see you guys maybe around the pool after our day out and then at evening entertainment.

Because whether they have a brain or not, will not help you if you’re picking your face up off the driveway, will it?

I sort of had this once, while out with BIL and his kids. We were waiting for them to arrive, and DH bought our DC an ice cream while we waited, but BIL and his kids arrived sooner than we were expecting, so his kids arrived in time to see ours eating their ice creams and obviously whinged about it. BIL muttered something under his breath something about being annoyed we'd bought our kids an ice cream so now he'd have to buy his children one, when he didn't want to, and then DH (who is a massive people pleaser) sort of spiralled into a pit of guilt. I had to firmly remind DH that he is a grown man, who bought HIS children ice cream with HIS money that HE earned, and that is absolutely NOT a reason to feel guilty!

It can be awkward when spending time with other families, as different families inevitably have different rules/habits/routines... eg. one family lets their kids buy loads of souvenirs and the others don't, one family is really strict about snacking before meals while the other family is more relaxed, bedtimes, going off on their own, etc. etc., but that's the nature of socialising with other families, you can't police how other families look after their kids, the stricter parents have to make a choice of whether to relax their standards while on holiday, or get very used to saying to their kids, "I don't care what XXX is doing, I'm not her mum. Her mum makes the rules for her, and I make the rules for you."

Yes, I think that's what they're getting at with the "certain type". Arrogant tossers, with zero integrity or morality, who believe they are above the rules... And possibly the rough sort who will use their fists because they have no brain.

The DB was cheap and probably all inclusive judgy and snobby and it’s backfired massively. How he could not work out lunch, drinks, snacks, ice creams etc is going to cost way more than £20 per person today? He must feel like an eejit.

Totally unacceptable to ask that of you OP. On the flip side I’d feel so incredibly awkward if my family were AI and my brothers weren’t, that alone would spoil my holiday as I’d be on edge all the time so it’s unfair of your BIL to raise it when you could already have felt awkward.

So they still own the company, nothing has changed in the world at all except HMRC don’t get 950 grand and they’ll never recover it because it’s a perfectly legal thing to do
I can get excited about those cheeky fuckers but not some brother-in-law trying to save himself £20 a day on ice cream
