AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

This is the most batshit insane thing I’ve read all day, and the competition has been stiff.

Tell them to fuck off and stop being such complete fucknuggets. Don’t give them any hint that this is at all an acceptable request. It’s not.

Hahaha was coming on to say this. Mumsnet has been a strange place today.
OP you are not in the least unreasonable

Whatthefork1 · 13/07/2026 17:04

so your kids can’t use the AI that you have paid for because they didn’t pay for it and now believe it is unfair on their kids. Well that is just tough shit isn’t it. I can’t believe he would even make such a comment. Your definitely not being unreasonable.

ColaAndRum · 13/07/2026 16:36

This is why I find holidays with family hard work.
Some family members have very different parenting styles to us and it gets very wearing very quickly.
We’ve had requests for our older kids to pretend to go to bed/get out the pool or whatever because they can’t say no to their kids, have had my kids being asked to not to win races and games because their kid doesn’t like it, also have had to put up with being called mean and uptight because we don’t let the kids have endless coke and icecream.

ByUniqueViper · 13/07/2026 16:24

The all inclusive lot get exactly that. The self catering will have to pay for whatever they want.
They had the same opportunity as the AI's. Its really not your problem

I’m laughing at people having an overreaction to frozen ice
The other poster then made the point that those people who “steal” the frozen ice might be a bit rough and I pointed out If that was the case that they were a bit rough they might get a bit rough with them.
I’ve never had a fight in my life. You’ll be pleased to hear and I’d probably wouldn’t win if I did.
But I’d still be more than happy to share my all-inclusive benefits with the family
Because what I lack in hardness I make up for in not being a pr1ck

And when OP is spotted by staff and asked to leave the resort, then what? Because it's against the T&Cs, and it's stealing.

Haven't you realised that housebatshit is well 'ard?. S/he is letting people know how things would play out if people didn't break the rules for them.

They are batshit. Ignore.

Throwawayaccount1 · 13/07/2026 16:21

Thanks to this thread I shall now be using the words bat-shit and fuck-nugget on the regular.

Honestly who doesn't AI when there's kids, ice cream and slushies involved?

Strawberries86 · 13/07/2026 16:12

@AIvSC please tell us what your bil said? It’s an investment worthy thread.

Strawberries86 · 13/07/2026 16:06

@BurnTheWholeThingDown

“fucknuggets” is now my word of the week. And you, are poster of the month.

newberry · 13/07/2026 16:01

This is so insane I'm struggling to believe it's real.

JontyGentooey · 13/07/2026 15:52

We always get AI when it's on offer because it generally works out loads cheaper, even if you don't drink and still go out for the odd lunch, dinner or day trip. Mostly due to the pound being on its arse. Once you've bought snacks and drinks as well as the meals you've suddenly haemorrhaged an absolute fortune.

Your BIL's just realised how much more he's going to spend because he didn't book AI in advance and he's pissed off about it. But that is really not your problem!

KookyPeachScroller · 13/07/2026 15:49

You paid for it and got a good deal on it, their lack of hindsight should not have to be your problem. I can understand their kids wanting what yours have but that’s up to their adults to explain the difference between s/c and a/i. Either that or BIL can reimburse you the £600 to pay for your kids food/drinks/snacks. So NO - you paid for it so let your kids use it.

Also… in addition to my previous comment, I’m sure someone will have already said this but this is an excellent life lesson for him to teach his kids about the value of money, to be gracious, have gratitude, work hard, how some people have more in life generally and about the pre planning and decision making which has led to this situation and that we can’t spend our lives being jealous because there will always be disparity between people, our peers, people we see online etc

Edited

This. If a classmate gets bought a fancy car, is he going to insist that they don’t drive it until his DCs get bought a car? Or if you help your DCs onto the property ladder, is he going to insist that your DCs live with you, leaving their new house empty, until his DCs get onto the property ladder?

There will always be someone in life whose parents buy them something that your parents didn’t buy you. Always.

GreatPinkViper · 13/07/2026 15:48

This is ridiculous. You've paid for it and should use it. Its not your or your kids fault if the rest of the group didnt do the same. I once had this whilst on a group holiday but the other way round. Most of our group booked room only for our short stay as there was lots of reasonable restaurants nearby where we wanted to eat. One family booked full board at the hotel which was fine but they were annoyed with us all holiday when we went to eat out locally. Complained their son was being " left out" and tried to get us to eat in the hotel.

BuildbyNumbere · 13/07/2026 15:48

That’s madness … what are you going to do? Pay twice?!?

Bamboozledbylife · 13/07/2026 15:47

Please tell me you called him a fucknugget op?

Daleksatemyshed · 13/07/2026 15:44

Just out of interest @AIvSC , if it's a group of friends and family were you the only ones to go AI, if not, why is the BIL just whinging at you?

Marieb19 · 13/07/2026 15:41

They are being ridiculous. Tell them to go to a shop and buy drinks and snacks for their kids if they don't want to pay bar prices. It's completely unreasonable to expect you and your children to lose the hundreds of pounds you have already paid.

Morrisdancer24 · 13/07/2026 15:34

The reason I will never go on holiday with friends and/or family again is for reasons exactly like this. Tell them all to FO and of course you will be using the AI you've paid for! Holidays are when you see the real side of people, and 9 times out of 10 it's not pleasant !

Why is it unfair for you and your family to use something you d paid for. They could go to the front desk and ask to upgrade your have all inclusive - they are going to eat anyway so may as well.

I would say they are being unfair and weird for monitoring what food your kids eat and whether or not you paid for it up front or at the point of service.

Whammyammy · 13/07/2026 15:28

How bizarre and weird they are. Wanting you to psy for items you have already paid for???

Julimia · 13/07/2026 15:28

Of course your children camn use it that's what youve0 paid for. They know what theyre
doing they chose not to book it.ignore and carry on!

Clearinguptheclutter · 13/07/2026 15:24

Remind that that you have paid for it- in advance

I’d feel a bit sorry for the kids though. Not the adults
