AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Well that would be a big fat no from me! Probably a 'Hell, no!', maybe even a 'Fuck, no!', but definitely an emphatic 'no!'.

He chose to book self-catering. It was a mistake. He doesn't get to have YOUR CHILDREN pay for HIS mistake.

This is so ludicrous and entitled that I can’t even imagine they are nice people. They sound fucking horrible. You’ll never hear the end of this. I bet they will stew on it like poison when (I hope!) you tell them an emphatic no.

Tbh it probably tally’s up the same over the course of the holiday. The adults need to stop being so tight. We all know kids want constant drinks, ice cream etc… when on holiday, can they not just charge to the room so no money is in sight?

Fuck that and the horse it rode in on. You've paid for it, your kids can have what they want when they want. Don't get yourself thrown out over this, or spoil your family's fun because they didn't think it through.

they should take a previous posters ad ice and get treats from a supermarket but asking you not to let your kids enjoy is silly. Maybe ask them to be more discreet. But even that isnt realistic if they’re playing together 24/7

They are being absolutely ridiculous, you have paid for all inclusive, so make the most of this and have a lovely holiday.

The level of entitlement is mind boggling. They are jealous. Tell them to get over themselves.

Why organise a holiday at an all inclusive if they didn’t want people to use the all inclusive?!

One of the best things my dc love about our annual abroad holiday is the AI!
And I do let them indulge as it’s the one time of the year they are allowed ice cream 3 times a day and different fizzy pop flavours etc.

Let your kids use the Ai as much as you are happy with it’s their holiday too and why should your poor kids suffer when you’ve paid for the luxury!

I'd be telling BIL that as you have already paid for AI, you and your children will be using it. Of course you shouldn't just not have your children use a service you've paid good money for. If I ever holidayed together again, I'd be sure to tell him in advance if was opting for AI so he can make an informed decision, but that's the most I'd do.

Half the reason to book AI is so you don’t have to tell your kids no to the endless requests for smacks and treats while on holiday. It’s a rare treat to have freedom without budgeting. Sometimes we do it even if we know it’s not the most cost effective just because we enjoy that “yes day” feeling.

But so are you if you have to check with Mumsnet that it’s ok for your kids to use the AI you paid for.

I never understand this mentality. You’re not chained to the hotel if you go AI - we often go AI and still have meals out and days out and still pay less than we would if we were self catering/half board. It’s often not that much more to go AI if you time your booking well (as OP has found our - £20 per person per day is a couple of drinks and an ice cream at the hotel and you’re quids in, even if you eat out for every meal!)

And this is why, when our kids were younger, if we went somewhere that had the option of AI, we went AI! We didn’t want the DC to make friends round the pool with other dc who had AI and had constant access to drinks and snacks and for us to be constantly saying no- that is not a holiday and isn’t fair on the DC.

I appreciate your dc haven’t made holiday friends and the other children are friends from home but this is a problem for their parents to sort out. What did they think was going to happen? Do not encourage your dc to get extras to share- that’s not how AI works and do not ask your dc to restrict what they want- you’ve paid for it already so it’s not free! This is a problem for the other parents to sort. If they could t afford the upgrade to AI, they should have spoken up before booking and as a group you should have discussed alternatives. They didn’t so now need to deal with it.

I'd have laughed at him. He had the opportunity to book AI in advance when it was cheaper; he chose not to. Your children will continue to use what you have paid for.
