AIBU to let my children use all inclusive on a group holiday?

Against my better judgement I agreed to a group holiday. Mixture of family and friends all know each other well. All have children ranging from baby-16

My BIL organised it but we all booked separately.

He sent a link to an all inclusive resort and that's what I and half of the group booked.

BIL and the half booked the same hotel but self catering.

It was £600 more for AI- which as we are here for 8 days works out as less than £20 per person per day (four of us)

First night was fine as we all went out for dinner but today has been hell.

We have had a pool day and my kids have been able to get snacks/drinks/etc as they like but to purchase it all is quite expensive.

We've just come back from dinner- which was 'free' for us but not for them and were told it wasn't fair if our kids used the AI.

I asked why they didn't book the AI and they said they didn't like AI- but they were at dinner having the same food as us.

I don't want to be say to our kids that they can't use the AI but equally don't want to fall out. I enquired how much it would cost to upgrade to AI and it was 2200€ per family.

The thing is you’ve already paid for the drinks etc. you did it when you booked. You aren’t getting them for free. His request is totally unreasonable.

jeaux90 · 13/07/2026 08:04

Don’t say anything unless he asks. Let the kids crack on. If he brings it up tell him no, we decided to let the kids use what we paid for.

ByHeartyHiker · 13/07/2026 08:01

To ask someone not to use facilities they've booked and paid for after choosing not to pay for the sane favilities yourself is absolutely ridiculous and batsh*t crazy

warmdreams · 13/07/2026 08:01

You carry on with your holiday including all the food and drink you have paid for. You are not responsible for the actions of others. They chose the cheap option and that’s on them.

Daleksatemyshed · 13/07/2026 07:59

Your BIL chose to take the cheapest option possible, now his kids are upset and his answer is to upset yours as well? I expect he feels bad he's DC upset but he doesn't get to assuage his guilt by spoiling it for you too.

AI can be really fun. My kids are adults but remember a time when we got AI and they could just have anything they wanted at any time.

What utter selfish fuckwit would ask you not to enjoy something you’d paid for? I would think really badly of this person in future.

Agreed. My 6 year old remembers her all inclusive from when she was 3, and speaks fondly of being able to go and get an ice cream whenever she wanted, the pool and the pedalo in the sea...but mostly the ice-cream 😂😂😂😁😁😁

Sassylovesbooks · 13/07/2026 07:52

It's not your problem that your BIL booked self-catering and not the AI option. You've paid for the AI option, so why should you not use it??!! Your BIL can't afford to pay separately for his children to have the same as your children, because he didn't book the AI option, and that's your problem how??!! That's on him! He either pays or he tells his own children they can't have XYZ because it's not included, and he can't afford it!!!

That's no different to saying to someone, you earn more than me and can afford things I can't. So because I can't afford the same, you should take a pay cut and earn the same as me!!!!

Carry on as you are! He's a cheeky fucker! Yes, his kids might be upset they can't have unlimited bloody ice-cream but that's on him to manage, not you!

MyDeftDuck · 13/07/2026 07:51

Give him directions to nearest supermarket (seems far too much of a fucknugget to determine that for himself) and tell home to go buy drinks, treats and snacks for his brood.
You get what you pay for in life and there’s no such thing as a free lunch - not even with AI because you’ve paid upfront.
Who goes on a holiday and expect children to NOT want the free stuff??

Dumbledora8 · 13/07/2026 07:50

Are they having a fucking laugh? The entitlement of some people shocks me!!!!

This never happens. At worst, you’ll get a stern word and a threat and if that happens which I’ve never seen, you stop doing it. It’s hardly stealing in this context and actually happens all the time. I’m not saying give the kids a three course meal, I’m saying have some fries and drinks when they need them.

Nonsense, just because you've never personally witnessed anyone being kicked out doesn't mean it never happens....

You could have had a dozen families removed on your last holiday for rule breaking, and you'd have no idea.

RoseBlueuet · 13/07/2026 07:49

MalcomVexx · 13/07/2026 07:40

I think that’s different. Use of a limited resource that some people have paid for and I’d be frustrated by that but it’s just the way it is. Same as saving a place in the aldi queue or slightly shorter Alton towers queues.

the way o see it, if my kids made friends at the pool and I said they needed a drink to keep them hydrated, I’d be getting on for their new friend too because it’s the nice thing to do and hurts no one. And that’s a stranger, not a family member. I’ve always done this and for adults I’ve been sitting with randomly. It’s a nice gesture, they’re happy and the hotel doesn’t care because no one has taken the piss.

Are you suggesting the OP passes drinks etc from the AI she paid for to those who haven't paid?

You are very wrong to suggest the hotel wouldn't care. They very much would and could result in being thrown out.

This is on the BIL and his family, nobody else.

You might have to have argument about it to get it out of the way . If he continues to be a dick then do things separately. If the kids want to mix, fine, but you dont have to. What a cheek. Idiot.

But surely it is taking the piss if you get a family who befriends people, and then gets offered drinks for free like you say you do. Would you be so quick to offer new friends a drink if you were paying each time?
Yes the drinks are watered down and cheap, but still makes a mockery to those who have paid if you get someone like you handing them out to anyone and everyone.

JohnnieFedora · 13/07/2026 07:47

Just tell him to go to reception this morning and get his Ai wristband and pay for it.

Dollymylove · 13/07/2026 07:45

MalcomVexx · 12/07/2026 22:05

I knew that’d get some holier than thou comments. The world won’t end because some kids got some extra drinks or chips at a location built on western excess and gluttony.

You must be a barrel of laughs at a party 🥳

Bitemeee · 13/07/2026 07:41

Who the actual fuck does your BIL think he is to make that comment / request?! What an arrogant twat. I wonder if he'd have said that to, for example, his boss had his boss been in your shoes?

I would be playing the insanity card i.e. BIL, have you lost your mind?! And how about taking a shit - can we all only do that at the same time, too?

You are not being unreasonable in the slightest. Don't get derailed by this. Let your children carry on and enjoy your break. Your BIL could learn some wisdom, here.

NotDarkGothicMama · 13/07/2026 07:37

YANBU. They miscalculated, now he's annoyed at how much it's costing. Just tell him not to be daft.

LakieLady · 13/07/2026 07:36

What kind of bonkers do you have to be to suggest that someone on a group holiday doesn't make use of something they've paid for, just because you chose not to pay for the same thing?

YANBU OP, enjoy the rest of your holiday.

RoseBlueuet · 13/07/2026 07:34

I put YABU only because you didn't laugh in his face immediately and tell him to jog the fuck on.

This would put me right off these people and I would distance myself from them for duration of holiday. Imagine the mind workings it must take to suggest to others that they stop using what they paid for in order to ease their own pocket.

CF doesn't even cover it in this instance. OP, short shrift from you this morning. Shut him/them down immediately. This would have made me very cross indeed.

OneLimePombear · 13/07/2026 07:33

AIvSC · 12/07/2026 23:33

I don't know, I was just cross and hot. But yes I just wanted to check I wasn't being unreasonable to let my kids keep using the AI

I've cooled down in the room now and I'm going to bed. Thanks all.

They are bonkers and have messed up, you enjoy your slushies and drinks etc.

babyproblems · 13/07/2026 07:28

They should have sorted this out before they went. Carry on!! Of course you don’t stop because of what they said. Your kids could probably share some snacks etc discreetly to be kind when needed..

I expect it could happen though if they wanted to push it. Where we stayed this year had it written onto the information sheet when we arrived.
In reality it's less likely to happen as who is to know.....putting drinks in bottles makes it less obvious, though even a kid taking a couple of drinks in cups back to their family is not likely to be stopped by anyone as there isn't usually that many people watching. Its more likely to be if other guests spot what's going on and query it.
(Still reminded of the time we went to Butlins and paid for VIP so we could get early access to venues and the family in front of us spread themselves across 2 tables and then when everyone was let in beckoned the rest of their group to join them. Thought this was cheeky behaviour as they must have booked early entry for one family and then just saved the table for the other family without it).

OhBettyCalmDown · 12/07/2026 21:59

That’s exactly how you get thrown out of an AI hotel.

Yep. It is stealing. Bet that will be the next suggestion from bil though.
