Queuing to board?

They absolutely do check. I fly frequently for work and have seen the staff do checks, and then hold people back who haven't paid for their baggage. They make a lot of money doing this!

Finding space in the overhead lockers is now a big thing. Never used to be when a plane ticket automatically came with a hold luggage allowance. But now you have to pay extra for hold baggage, people are taking small suitcases on board which have to go in the lockers that take up all the space along with all the duty free bags. I've been on flights where our bags have had to be many rows away. On a couple of flights, there's literally been no space left and some passengers have had to have their bags put in the hold, much to their annoyance. I long for the good old days when people just took a small hold-all bag/handbag on board and everyone could have their bag easily accessible directly above them.

It's a bit like theatre shows, it always seems to be the people who are sat in the middle are the ones to enter last after the warning bell, minutes before the show starts, making everyone stand up to let them through

Yes. Its still on there and it's on them if they don't look properly. But it doesn't change the facts that I had paid for the space and he hadn't. Not sure why you're trying to continue arguing it.

I flew long haul with Emirates recently, I was asked by cabin crew to put my rucksack under the seat in front and not in the overhead locker. It makes sense as locker space is limited.

OMG you're like my OH, I hate it, he has to scurry at speed right down to the gate and watches the boards like a hawk, it makes no difference. I cannot STAND waiting around for things so would rather just come along when they're actually boarding.

I deliberately walk slowly and saunter round the shops to make us slower to get there. He whines like nobodies business about it. Really ruins the vibe of a relaxing and free and easy holiday.

She said that she said the space was for cases. I therefore assume that she had a case. If she'd not paid for the case she would have been stopped at the gate

If there is an overbooking situation at the gate they will announce and ask for volunteers. Since there is compensation on Ex UK and ex EU flights, they usually get volunteers. Failing volunteers, they have various selection criteria that they apply. They don’t just let the queue get to the end and stop the last 2 people getting on.

or just check YOUR coat if it's so much of an issue for you?

What a weird post

Low costs specifically say that the lockers are for luggage, not clothes, and with any airline, it's common sense. Of course cases go in the locker as priority over clothes.

If airline staff is happy with the size of the case, then its place is in the locker? Where do you think it should go?

You are ALLOWED to take luggage that doesn't fit under the seat you know!

Why should I? I paid for what I needed.

I always choose and pay for plane seats in advance but on more than one occasion recently there have been CFs sitting in them already and when I say these seats are booked they’ve said oh, that’s ok, just take ours, they’re only 15/16 rows back (and they’re both middles…)
And getting huffy when I say no, I want the ones I booked and paid for. And then making a huge production out of getting up and moving. Wankers.

Just check your luggage in from now on

I'd paid extra for that case to go in the overhead lockers. It wouldn't fit under the seat. That's not entitlement. Its getting what I paid for. The other person was entitled thinking they could take up space in the lockers for a coat and a rucksack when they hadn't paid any extra. Just so they could have a more comfortable seat.

She didn’t say she’d paid for the space. I think she’s a cheeky fucker too. The guy was as entitled to the space in the locker as her. I dread encountering people like her on planes.
