AIBU to not want a Tesla?

As @Awasrsays products using child labour such as the cobalt mines in the DR Congo or slave labour from Uyghur Muslims in Chinese concentration camps are in so many modern products.

However there are a couple of standout examples:

1. Chinese EV such as BYD
2. Solar panels- approximately 95% of all domestic solar panels and solar farms in the UK directly use slave labour from Uyghur concentration camps in China. This is particularly interesting because really no one wants to discuss or admit this as it conflicts with the Net Zero goal and climate change.

So without names or brands, we are helpless really? I think that’s different to a make clearly associated with a particular person and political viewpoint.

If you partake in modern life, such as having a smart phone, you will own or use a product that was made using child and/or slave labour, its not easily avoidable.

Can you identify those products please so we can avoid them?

Tesla is also name checked in the list of manufacturers using these workers too though according to this article (personally I am not surprised by that either).

So some posters act as if no one refrains from buying from a company because of the owner/ founder/CEO, and that this is a new thing and not feasible.

Well, I won't buy a Tesla because of Musk. I won't eat at Whetherspoons because their CEO was a proper twat in the BREXIT debate and because the employees are treated badly. I won't buy products from America because of Trump. I won't buy a Dyson because the founder promoted BREXIT and then moved some of the production to Europe.I have never bought products from Israel due to the illegal occupations of the West Bank. I am 53 years old. Never. Ever.

So yes, if I find that that the leader of a company or country is a total asshole, I will not buy their products

I guess going by the many posts on this thread you are absolutely right that ignorance is bliss.

We have a tesla, bought before tosser Elon twatted around with the orange buffoon and nazi saluted. One thing I’d say, and I haven’t driven other ev’s, it’s a fucking boring drive. As far as someone asking about all the gadgets/games etc, they don’t work whilst car is being driven, most are pointless add ons. I did find it funny one of our acquaintances refused to have a nazimobile tesla and proceeded to get a bmw!

I only know one person with a Tesla, and that’s my neighbour. He tells me he feels vilified every time he goes out in it, regularly scowled at by other road users and no-one ever lets him out at junctions. A sharp contrast to driving his little old MG at the weekends he tells me, where people’s reactions are the exact opposite. Just one anecdote of course, I’m sure not everyone will share the same experience.

Many are on salary sacrifice, tyres are included in monthly payment.

Some you may not know, but Elon is very vocal about it. He has said he thinks black people are stupid and lack intelligence, I’m black and I disagree so I would not support anything Tesla or to do with him.

CEO of xyz company may think the same but if it’s not vocalised and I don’t know then ignorance is bliss.

There are lots of other excellent EV choices available without having to stoop to the depths of buying a Tesla.

That's the really depressing point of this thread that huge numbers of posters seem much more comfortable purchasing cars made with the labour of minority Muslim Uyghurs out of concentration camps in Xingjiang than they do from Tesla because they disagree with the views of Elon Musk.

I guess some of us have higher ethical standards than others.

The leap from driving a Tesla (to be environmentally friendly) to being considered a Nazi is just incredible.
