I think we are lucky in some ways that the hot weather currently has a lower impact here than in Europe.

The fires, rivers drying up and the consequences of shutting down nuclear power plants that supply electricity. The ongoing drought also has an impact on food production, we will be feeling the consequences in the coming months. We are at the beginning of the ill effects of climate change.

Well exactly. My point was that you have to be in quite a privileged position to even contemplate making green energy changes to your home. You have to own your own home for a start, and have a fair bit of cash to spare on top.

A few thousand? For lots of people (including us), it would run to tens of thousands.

There are other ways if you own your own property and also have a few thousand pounds to spare

People are not thrown in jail for a peaceful protest.

We have done what we can as a family, conserving energy and water, we recycle, EVs/hybrid and solar panels and reducing carbon footprint but when data centres are using loads more energy and water plus US fossil fuel industry still carrying on as normal as is India I am not marching up in London as a protest when people are thrown in jail even for peaceful protest.

This is what I was trying to say in my post, although I know more people who are loving it than hating it. I think you've hit the nail on the head with the word 'minimisers'. That is exactly what they do. 'Its summer,what did you expect?' is the familiar cry. Well, I certainly don't expect temperatures in the UK that are the norm for Spain to go on for several weeks!

I don't think we hear much about it because many people don't believe that the abnormally hot weather we are experiencing this summer is a result of global warming or climate change. They just keep saying 'Its summer,what do you expect?'. Despite the fact that they've had it explained to them numerous times that summer in the UK doesn't normally equate to temperatures in the high 20s to upper 30s for weeks at a time! There seems to be far more people who love boiling hot weather than hate it,so if it's an effect of global warming,they're not going to make a fuss about it.

The US - some protests but not designed for it.
The middle east - haha I don't see it, let's build an island in the shape of "I dont give a fuck"

You know why China is leading the way in "green" technologies and we aren't? Their energy prices are far cheaper, because they are largely powered by COAL, which is mined by people paid a pittance. We cannot compete because we A - pay far, far, higher wages, and B - are buying all our power infrastructure from China, which produces it far more cheaply than we can... FFS.

Will countries around the world ban more than two airline trips a year for everyone, will they halt massive cruise ships from docking and disgorging crowds to see the sights en masse, will they improve air quality by banning fossil fueled vehicles and heavy emission industries, etc. - oh you get the drift.

Despite all our efforts, when we look around at places like the US, everything is based on car and air travel, with a million cruises thrown in. They use air con from April to October and heat the rest of the time, they are in general averse to drying laundry outdoors, so the dryer is going every day and recycling is hit and miss. These sort of things make me unsurprised that climate change will not ease anytime soon.

I will do my little bit as best I can, but I often feel I am being laughed at by the tokenist element of Climate Change agreements.

There are many reasons this country has got poorer over the last few decades and net zero policies really isn’t the primary one. Other more important factors include poor productivity, economic inactivity, Brexit, austerity, an aging population, and the global shocks we’ve experienced over the last few years (COVID, wars in Ukraine and Iran).

Anyway, I’d rather be poorer and preserve the planet for our children than richer and burn it down.

Well I just do the best I can. I am looking forward to a holiday, but I don’t drive far, have a hybrid)can’t afford ev), buy “green” electricity. I do care about the world but I can’t change what everyone else does 🤷🏽‍♀️

Although I'm not sure we can claim to be The Nation Leader...we need to be bolder.

We still think carbon capture is the way forward.
