Vegans

I find them a bit meh. I'm happy for them to do their own thing if they leave me alone. I think this is overstepping. Do vegans not have pets? After all, keeping pets is just forcing animals to live and be controlled by humans.

A bird handler is holding a hawk on his gloved hand. A blurred crowd is stood behind him. The hawk has food clasped in its beak.

Being as you have said you didn’t do anything wrong yet you were banned, you’re the one full of BS.

Your posts make it very obvious each time you come back with another account or username. You are a pbp with yet another account. One of the threads was very dramatic with loads of your posts deleted because they were horrible, before they finally banned you. People don’t forget stuff like that.

I wasnt horrible at all. People were dicks to me.

JustForAMomentLetsBeStill · 11/07/2026 21:49

Animal rights group writes a letter to express concern for animal welfare. The business they wrote to has taken the concerns on board and cancelled the event. All perfectly reasonable.

Your OP doesn’t seem relevant to the article really, but I suppose it was just to get people moaning about vegans.

Good for you. Why don't you care that animals suffer horrifically and are slaughtered so you can eat pies and burgers though? Don't you agree a better diet and ending animals suffering are good things?

Did you raise your kids as vegetarian
or vegan @Gloriia and, if you did, do they remain as such as adults? Did you voice this opinion on those that do eat meat to them?l

and you mention burgers and pies etc
what about chicken salads - same disgust?

Gloriia · 11/07/2026 21:32

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 11/07/2026 21:06

I don’t agree. But I give not a single fuck for your judgment

I have family members who are plant based. They don’t talk about it or act remotely superior. It’s a private thing that matters to them. They care deeply about how animals are farmed. And live their life with as much integrity to their beliefs as possible. They did have a rescue cat that was found frozen in snow as a kitten and had life long breathing problems. They went without themselves to pay for vet bills. The cat lived for 15 years on special diet and an inhaler. Don’t judge. Many vegans are quiet and private about it.
they are good people. I wish I could be so disciplined.

Yup, not all vegans are loud. You will always hear about the most extreme, as with every group.

I also think when it comes to pets, vegans with carnivore pets most really care to be able to feed them meat.

morselover69 · 11/07/2026 12:57

classic, i have yet to meet a reasonable vegan

Hi x

HobgoblinNorFoulFiend · 11/07/2026 21:06

Gloriia · 11/07/2026 15:30

We should all strive to be vegan or veggie. Eating animals is not ok. I don't preach but I do judge those shoving pork pies or bacon butties in their faces.

Concern with the welfare of birds being used for entertainment is not the same as having a rescue pet.

I don’t agree. But I give not a single fuck for your judgment

Pollyanna87 · 11/07/2026 20:23

I’ve never, ever once encountered one of these supposed preachy vegans in real life. People love moaning about them, though.

SqueakyFromme · 11/07/2026 20:15

@WhenYouAreReady oh yes ‘mmmm bacon’ as desperately old and unamusing as the ‘burn the house down’ on a spider thread.

WhenYouAreReady · 11/07/2026 20:12

marantz · 11/07/2026 20:08

I mean if there is maybe people should use it. MN has so many boring tropes about ‘ranting’ vegans.

Goady anti vegan people have even post on there with their anti vegan stance, piss taking emojis, telling us we look old and ill, writing ‘what about bacon sandwiches’ etc. Pathetic really.

marantz · 11/07/2026 20:08

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 11/07/2026 17:38

There is a vegan board isn’t there?

SqueakyFromme · 11/07/2026 20:06

@Werhere i have found the same too, in ‘real life’ it’s just on here there are always high emotions and drama on Vegan threads, with non vegans being insulting and disparaging though usually

Werhere · 11/07/2026 20:00

This all feels a bit 1990s to me!

I eat meat and fish. No one give’s a rats arse in my circle whether someone is a vegetarian, vegan or meat eater. We all just rub along and it’s never discussed. Ever

VeggiJ · 11/07/2026 19:58

I’ve been vegan 13 years now and find this protest a bit daft tbh. Obviously I think animals should be treated well, as I’m sure most non vegans do too! I’ve volunteered at owl/birds of prey centres previously and all the animals were treated very well. During shows if the birds didn’t want to perform then they just didn’t, it’s not like they’re being forced to do it, and I don’t think it would be physically possible to force them either. Most of the time it helps to educate people on the animals too, which in my opinion I think is a really good cause!
I know some other vegans would call me ‘not a proper vegan’ for the way I am. My kids and partner aren’t vegan or vegetarian. I just like to do my own thing my way haha.

That's the whole problem as far as I am concerned. Or much of it at least. Our numbers and lifestyles demand that food is produced commercially. And it's that which has led to many of the world's problems. I have no problem in benefitting from animal activity so long as we don't just take, take, take. Bees for example are quite welcome to pollenate plants because that is what they do. Naturally. The "bringing in bees" is the problematic part.

Pets I am afraid I am against. And I say that as a dog lover and owner.
If you'd be out on our morning walk with us this morning you might feel the same. Three dogs, bad examples of breeds which should never have existed, with idiot, and in one case a highly abusive, owners causing problems for me and my dog. And that is of course nothing when you consider the miserable lives that millions of 'pet' animals are forced to live.

I see what you are saying but taking a more moderate position is likely to gain much more traction. What I mean is that let’s not ban pets because there are some shitty breeders and shitty owners, let’s do a better job of loving the animals we have, coming down harder on breeders and owners who fail, maybe licensing, let’s change over time how we think about pets. Let’s tackle the kennel club et al on overbreeding.

Rather than banning meat production, consult, change, move away from barbaric practices and bring food production more local and less intense, naturally increasing prices and lowering consumption. I realise it’s not that simple but you get the gist.

The extreme or ‘evangelical’ position loses people and is almost impossible to defend.

I say this by the way as someone who has been vegetarian since the late 80’s and who cut out diary a decade ago- so what most would consider a vegan but that not what I think I am.

redboxer321 · 11/07/2026 19:37

clarinsgirl · 11/07/2026 19:22

If what you mean by vegan is that we stop eating dairy and meat then I completely agree. But the vegan ethos goes much further. Avocados aren’t vegan because they can’t be commercially produced without bringing in bees, we shouldn’t keep pets, figs aren’t vegan because a wasp dies in pollination.

The idea of not eating meat, fish and dairy is completely reasonable. The idea of telling everyone else what they can eat and trying to create the fairytale world described earlier is not reasonable.

I do find that most vegans I meet are irritatingly smug and evangelical.

I had a friend who was insufferable in the way you describe. Probably still is,

What did you have for Christmas Dinner?

My vegan DD chooses something labelled ‘vegan festive’ and eats the vegetables too.

Werhere · 11/07/2026 18:50

Honestly, you got banned for “don’t nothing wrong”… sounds like a 12 year old making up an excuse.

What did you do that was “nothing wrong” ?

@clarinsgirl they use a hormone spray now for pollinating figs, commercially at least. Which is good.

You could read into what scientists, conservationists, farmers and other experts think could/would happen if the world went vegan. They have great ideas for stopping species going extinct, making sure soil has nutrients, how the world would look, improvements to the environment etc. It is very interesting.
