I know there have probably been other threads asking this, but really .... why?

Why would you say he is a "man of the people?"'(Public school educated stockbroker / multi millionaire)

Genuinely, what appeals about him?

If you voted Brexit, have you forgotten that he resigned from public office that day after his Leave campaign won?

It's an anonymous forum, so please be honest.

Really.

Yes really. I'm not saying I believe their politics but millions and millions of other Brits do - hence why they are gaining traction every day.
Denying their rise and existence really helps noone.

A thread has been started on here this morning about a woman winning the right to bring 18 members of her family over here to collect benefits and be housed. That's why people support Farage.

Really.

A post on X by the well known news agency I Am British.

Sold. It's a scandal!

Why.. Because the Tories became a weaker and weaker force. When you think of Thatcher in the ‘80’s there was a right wing party. Since Cameron the Left and the Right both merged into a consensus party for example-

high immigration - (the skilled worker visa allowed the Boris wave, the largest immigration wave in our history, higher than America.)
Globalisation- no encouragement for our home industries. No care about industries leaving,
Green energy at the expense of our economy, highest energy costs in the developed world and de-industrialisation supported by Theresa May Net zero legislation.
D.E.I - disfavour of native population in jobs market
Trans rights originally supported by Theresa May.
So the Tories had become Lib Dem-ish and Reform are a. reaction to that.
Britain faces some very serious issues and if Count bin face was standing in the gentle shires where none of the grim realities of modern Britain have hit them then I’m sure he would be voted in and everyone would have a good laugh but England in some areas is so damaged and degraded no one is laughing there.

Had you forgotten about the decade and a half of ideological austerity when you decided that the Tories had become woolly liberals?

Perhaps you weren't particularly affected by austerity yourself so you don't understand the impact it had? Maybe that's why you can dismiss it so readily.

Some of these individuals sign on at food banks and then sell some of the food.

Who do they sell it to? Where do people new to the country find a network of buyers for 3 days supply of pasta, rice and tinned meat and veg? Anyone desperate enough to buy would surely just go to the foodbank themselves?

Of course there's no evidence. people in need are referred to food banks, they don't turn up, sign on and grab a bag of food, despite what the Fail would have you believe.

It wouldn't make the slightest difference. Somebody on this thread claims that migrants* are treated generously but couldn't answer when I asked where people were housed while waiting for their claim to be heard or how much money they have to live on.

So here are the facts. Migrants live in home office accommodation which could be self contained, in a former hotel or shared housing, depending on circumstance. To live on, they receive:

Self-Catered Housing: £49.18 per week per individual.
Full-Board Housing: £9.95 per week per individual (given when meals are fully provided by the accommodation provider). **
Pregnant Mothers & Young Children: Eligible families receive an extra £5.25 to £9.50 per week, alongside a one-off £300 maternity grant for newborns. (Full Fact)

I would suggest that if you - general you -would be unwilling or unable to live on this amount of money, in these circumstances, that you don't claim that other people leave their homes, jobs and families purely in order to benefit from the beneficence of the UK government.

*Using the term migrants as per Amnesty recommendation to forestall any claims that "they" aren't genuine.

** whether or not these meals are edible

If they stopped any benefits whatsoever for all immigrants who have not lived and contributed to UK economy for 10 years, don't you think that would stop illegal immigrants wanting to come to the UK?

He had nothing to do with how Brexit was executed. That was the Tories so people blame them for the lack of control and for the increase in immigration.

I don't think that he could have done any better, but we will never know and the people who vote for him probably think that he would have done.

There isn’t a lack of control of legal migration. The Tories chose to have more immigrants to help the economy recover after Covid, to support shortage industries, to address labour shortages and to fulfil humanitarian commitments for Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

MustTryHarderAndHarder · 13/07/2026 17:40

BoredZelda · 13/07/2026 11:11

Farage had a massive part to play in the Brexit vote. Why do you think he didn’t?

If immigration was taken out of the Brexit debate, we would still be in the EU. Not everyone who voted for Brexit was racist, or even cared about immigration, but everyone who was racist or believed the bullshit about immigration voted for Brexit, and their vote, though not a majority, pushed the vote over the line.

Well, they blame the Tories for that, not him, and to be fair, both of those were the Tories's fault.

I think people perceive him as willing to say things that go against the grain/challenge the existing point of view. They dont feel well served by the mainstream parties, they feel poorer and undervalued & Farage tells them he will stand up for them/offer change.

They obviously feel there's a need for that.

Not a Reform voter! Lib Dem if anything (and not a political animal at all really).

I think this is right. Farage appeals to some people because he poses as a bloke down the pub. It's no accident he's often photographed with a pint and a fag, is it?

Along with this, he is seen as someone who will dare to say things that other politicians won't dare say because of our very cautious culture nowadays.

Nothing to do with Farage, or Reform, but I do get frustrated with the way politicians - and most public servants (police, NHS) speak. I hate the mealy-mouthedness which they feel they have to adopt. Eg no government will ever criticise parents - they criticise teachers instead.

An example is the recent report on how 'schools are failing white working class boys'...er, could that actually be that schools are the only thing which is NOT failing these boys, and parents ought to get a bollocking instead? But that wouldn't win many votes, would it, while we know that teachers (I was one once) are always willing to shoulder blame for things they haven't done).

Similarly, the pussy-footing around certain health issues which shifts responsibility on to others, rather than directly telling people to change their habits and help themselves (and the rest of us).

I mention these things as examples of a chronic unwillingness from politicians to face up to problems realistically and directly. Instead they tie themselves in knots trying not to offend anyone, when sometimes people need to be offended.

I can't bear Reform or Farage, but I get why people are attracted by the idea of plain speaking, however uncomfortable it might be.

I doubt Reform voters are that bright. It's all about the 'boat' people to Reform voters.

Im a reform voters who was a staunch tory...I don't know if im bright but ended up a senior manager in an insurance company, quitting at 40 to run my micro business as I already had enough money and retired at 55. I come from a very working class background.

And its that background that influences my views. The working class has born the brunt of mass immigration. With wages being suppressed for years, education being effected by children whos first language isn't English and the strain on social housing.

Also the relentless push for net zero with little regard for the actual result and impact.

Plus the changes to tax system with the hike to £20k personal allowance will aid millions of poorer paid people.

Its not just the boats, its been the push to multiculturalism which i fully support, but where British culture is seen as bad and anything promoting it is racist...like the little girl not allowed to make a speech about her pride in being English. Plus the two tier approach to different groups such as the free reigh the grooming gangs had or the fact thst very very little is being done about the educational failure of working class whitd kids.

@MeetMeOnTheCorner imagine sneering at your gardener for being "uneducated" and therefore too thick to be able to use his vote wisely in your opinion....when you can't even spell it! You are not smarter than he is!

Disruptive votes now can actually stop idiotic parties like the Green party from having any influence on our economy. If you are worried about our economy I would worry more about a bunch of idiots who think men can morph into women holding the pen on public spending.

This. ^ LOL!

Wowisthisit · 13/07/2026 10:45

Personally I feel it is because he has made it ok to be racist again. If anyone points this out they get told they are a 'leftie' as if that is some sort of terrible insult.

Wowisthisit · 13/07/2026 10:43

Because he is going to make the UK great again like it was in the past.

I have no fucking clue what this greatness looked like and what point in the past is being referenced.
