To ask what scares you /freaks you out that you would not consider common? Mine is a children’s book!

Tom Sawyer, read it when I was 11 scared the pants off me although I love Huckleberry Finn and re read it regularly

Alan Garner. Loved his books as a child.

New to me (strange) staircases or steps - I always think that I'll miss the top step and fall to the bottom. I have to cling on to the rail with both hands, and God help me if there's no handrail..... In fact that is my nightmare dream, stepping off a staircase and falling - but at least I always wake up before I get to the bottom.
And as for spiral staircases.....

I've never got that close to the West Pier and as it's a reasonable distance into the water I think I'd be okay. I think it's more things sticking out in shallow water for me but I'm not going to test this theory.

Then I had to search it up , just to remind myself how horrible it was with the Princess/the Bear-Man/the creepy little bloke/the fish/the horse .

I always wondered how the fish could swim in such shallow water without getting stuck !

There was a show called Zap on CITV when I was younger. It always freaked me out.

I have it as well. There's an image in the accompanying text in wiki, think it's wiki, some research/ factual site.and it's just so awful. and on a beach the wormholes make me feel yucky..wonder if you get that too.

As a kid I watched a show called the demon headmaster and he scared me to death, I looked it up recently and nope still find him scary 😂

I loved that book.

My mother told me that although I loved the stories about Babar the Elephant, I was totally freaked out by the scene in the first book where the old King of the elephants ate a bad mushroom and died; according to the illustration he turned a nasty shade of green. Apparently, I refused to let my mother show me that page any time she read it to me.

I think the Australian programme mentioned earlier was 'round the twist'? I loved that show!
I had never heard of the programme 'animal knackers' but after a quick Google the fear it instilled in me was palpable. I feel sick just thinking about them, and that was just by looking a photo. I never want to see a clip of them! I also hate the God awful bananasplits for the same reason. I have the same dislike of 'Jamie and the magic torch' and all such horrible psychedelic styles of animation, like the monty Python ones.
Another fear i have, (which doesn't relate to tv!) are dams. How can they hold back such vast quantities of water? I torture myself imagining walking along one with deep, deep water up to the top and sheer, vast nothingness on the other side. My legs feel wobbly just thinking about it!

Also this scene in sleeping beauty. Just the first few bars of the music give me goosebumps. Its such a horrible eerie tune with the womans keening voice and just the fact shes out of it. And then the precise moment where my hackles rise is 00:13 when the eyes appear

I really enjoyed some of the children's books mentioned here, e.g. 'The Cat in the Hat'; 'Marianne Dreams'- but I was really creeped out by some of the stories in the 'Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories' collections, largely because they wer supposed to be true. One in particular was about two naughty children, who get into their Uncle Pete's car and play with the controls and the car suddenky starts to go and they don't know how to stop it. They are saved at the last minute by a brave neighbour, but for ages I was really scared of stationary cars suddenly running away with me in them, or over me if I was outside them. To this day, I occasionally have nightmares about cars running away. Another story that creeped me out was Hans Andersen's 'The Red Shoes' - that really is a horror story! And don't get me started on a few of the stories in Enid Blyton's 'A Book of Naughty Children'.

I’m fairly sure this is The Enchanted Castle (which I think was mentioned above for the Ugli-wugglies). Definitely had statues coming to life - and arguably more frightening, the children became statues.

A post here jogged my memory, my parents used to have the News of the World newspaper. I must have been about 10 yrs old & the pic on the front was a dog (maybe german shep) with a poodle's head grafted onto it's neck.. obviously at that age & no internet, no research done, but I feel sure it was from Russia..
Many, many tears & much horror..
