I told my friend about my crush on Postman Pat and she suggested he was gay. AIBU or is she?

I confessed to a friend that I had a bit of a crush on Postman Pat. He’s not the most conventionally attractive man, but he has a calming way about him, and is clearly a capable problem solver and provider. He’ll also have a good public sector pension, and security is a big plus for me.

I mentioned this to a friend and she said I had “no chance”. She said Pat was a middle-aged single man with a cat, and I should “read between the lines”.

AIBU or is my friend just jealous?

I’ve got the original Postman Pat theme tune going around in my head now.

There was a less pleasant version of it going around when I was at school (54 now) and I can still remember it.

This reminds me that my childhood bff at the time made me feel like an absolute weirdo when I confessed my animated character crushes. It was embarrassing at the time and made me much more cautious about what I shared with friends, so even as an adult it's still nice to be reminded that I wasn't a freak and that there are others like me out there. 😅

But I never knew he was married. He kept that quiet. Looking at Wikipedia, I also didn’t know he was called Patrick Clifton. Since when?

I happen to have known the man who Ted Glen was based on, and was even at his funeral.

Pleased to confirm that he was genuinely an incredible mechanic.

He was given a Porsche which the dealership couldn't fix - they'd even flown out people to look at it, and gave it up as a dud. He fixed it with a couple of weeks and the manual, and kept it for free.
