I told my friend about my crush on Postman Pat and she suggested he was gay. AIBU or is she?

I confessed to a friend that I had a bit of a crush on Postman Pat. He’s not the most conventionally attractive man, but he has a calming way about him, and is clearly a capable problem solver and provider. He’ll also have a good public sector pension, and security is a big plus for me.

I mentioned this to a friend and she said I had “no chance”. She said Pat was a middle-aged single man with a cat, and I should “read between the lines”.

AIBU or is my friend just jealous?

I'm not sure how to tell you this, and it may come as a bit of a shock, but Postman Pat is...........well............erm............ a puppet !

For what it's worth, in one of my past jobs I encountered John Cunliffe, who created Postman Pat. I have no idea whether he's gay or not, but he's very pleasingly pedantic over correct spelling and punctuation, which delighted me for some reason.

If my surname was Cunliffe I’d be very pedantic about spelling.

I think it's really sad that the blatant lies about the character names on Captain Pugwash are still being bandied about on MN.
The main character names were Master Mate and Tom the Cabin Boy. There was also never a character called Seaman Staines.
I heard a rather sad interview with the cartoonist some years ago. He made a living after the show doing talks in schools. Once these lies were spread all his work dried up.
Such is the power of utter shite spouted by the ignorant.

And from wikipedia - In 1991 the Pugwash cartoonist John Ryan won apologies and settlements from The Sunday Correspondent and The Guardian; the newspapers inaccurately claimed that the BBC took the series off the air owing to some character names being double entendres

He’s married with a kid and due to the distinct lack of other ginger adults and the abundance of ginger kids in that village id say definitely a straight sex addict. YABU for fancying him though. Much hotter cartoon characters out there

Hank the Ranger from Dungeons and Dragons was a dreamboat but I'm with the previous poster, Chilli from Bluey is a lucky woman/dog to have bagged Bandit. I bet he's a right good go-er in the bedroom department.
