Dh didn’t leave me any water or drinks

I was really ill yesterday and especially last night, lots of vomiting etc (sorry tmi)
We live abroad and it’s extremely hot, we don’t drink the tap water here.
The bedroom was a real mess this morning-sick bucket full, duvet yucky, he quietly said my name to wake me up and that he was going to work.
I feel horrendous, so weak and there’s zero water and drinks. I’m trying to set up
a delivery service to see if they can deliver
Does anyone think this is a bit shitty to leave me with no drinks. Feel so dehydrated

Are you trying to be helpful or just trying to stick the boot in?

Because the OP evidently didn't feel up to getting to the toilet at the time...? Nice sympathetic input there.

Reallyneedsaholiday · 07/07/2026 13:45

If he was sleeping in another room, he probably didn't even realise that you'd drunk all three bottles of water/ all that was in the house, or that you were using the bin instead of the bathroom to throw up in. Why didn't/ don't you message him to tell him that you need, rather than posting on social media. WE are not in a position to help out practically. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Paddyshanks · 07/07/2026 13:42

Jesus, couldn’t you have put a trigger warning about this thread!

Ladamesansmerci · 07/07/2026 11:15

What is wrong with people on here 😂

It's basic human decency to give a vomiting person in bed some water and see if they need anything. I would do this for a stranger, let alone my spouse.

Yes, exactly. Thats my view as well.

Some of the comments are really nasty.

MidnightEagle · 07/07/2026 13:39

That's very poor! Who leaves someone who is sick without water??!!

andthat · 07/07/2026 13:39

Thirteenblackcats · 07/07/2026 09:55

The first few posts, what is wrong with you? Hope you get no sympathy when you have your next sick bug.

@Footballscominghomehey Hope you’re feeling better soon, if you haven’t done delivery yet get done rehydration sachets as well.

Yes it is shitty of your husband

Came on here to say exactly this!

I'm always amazed by what massive dicks people can be...

@CoralOP you sound really poorly. If you can't get a delivery, do you have a neighbour, friend.. or your DH.. who can nip round and leave you some supplies?

Kidney stones - the worst pain ever. Hope you feel better soon...

ClairDeLaLune · 07/07/2026 13:36

backformoreofthesame · 07/07/2026 09:52

Guess you have never been that bad then. Have some pity

But surely you’d immediately empty the bucket down the loo? Otherwise it would stink.

Iced tea is your friend here OP. Hope you feel better soon.

Hankunamatata · 07/07/2026 13:35

Well ita not he didn't leave you any water.

How is he supposed to know you drank everything unless you said to him?

PenandPip · 07/07/2026 13:34

Gall10 · 07/07/2026 10:29

Drinking copious volumes of water won’t have done you any good….it’s probably what’s made you vomit!

OP has kidney stones, you drink as much water as you can to flush them out. It's recommended three litres a day.

Thats nasty.

People get so ill that they cant make it to the toilet. Hope you never experience that.

midsummabreak · 07/07/2026 13:30

Not unreasonable at all. Hope you feel better soon

PenandPip · 07/07/2026 13:29

Footballscominghomehey · 07/07/2026 09:53

He slept in the other room

Because I was in great pain with kidney stones, so have the bathroom bin next to my bed

As somebody who had a kidney stone removed three weeks ago and had a stent inserted, I totally understand the vomiting. While I was waiting in A&E , the triage nurse gave me a sick bag. It was horrific. Do you need to go to the hospital because if left untreated you can get sepsis. Some stones are to big to pass.

Faceonthewrongfoot · 07/07/2026 13:21

Good grief, this thread is a horrendous read! What is wrong with everybody! Its like bingo for the absolute worst of humanity - I genuinely cannot believe some of the replies on here are from actual human beings.

OP, hopefully you've managed to source some water by now, but if not, is there anyone local you know who could help? A friend or a colleague?

Greenand · 07/07/2026 11:06

When I have a bout of d&v (which is, thankfully, rare) I just stay in the bathroom all night and sleep on some towels on the floor.

How nice for you that you're able to do that.

I can't do that, for one thing the bathroom is entirely the wrong shape and for another, I can't get off the floor, I'd sublux a hip, get a pressure sore that would take months to heal and cause myself even more pain.

Funnily enough - we're not all the same. If I am poorly (with gallstones usually) I am in bed with a sick bucket and water to hand and need help to the bathroom. This would still be the case if I were not disabled, because gall stone attacks like kidney stones, are agonisingly painful and cause you to vomit and shit without warning. I have bottles of oromorph to hand 'just in case' - they don't hand that out for shits and giggles!

MimiGC · 07/07/2026 13:17

If my DH had gone to work without checking in on me in the morning, if only to see I hadn’t choked to death on my own vomit during the night, I would be furious !

That's a bit harsh, I have a medical condition that means I can wake up with no sense of balance so cant easily get myself to the toilet and when it happens am sick as I wake up...I keep a collapsible bucket between bed and cabinet just in case.
It might be normal for you to be sick in the toilet but some of us don't get the choice.

ImPamDoove · 07/07/2026 13:05

Sounds horrendous. Especially the bin full of sick bit. If I was puking, I’d stay close to the loo.

Pretty shitty of your husband to not make sure you have everything you need. Mine would do it automatically.

hahabahbag · 07/07/2026 13:04

@ClawsandEffect

i drink the water most places, including Spain, in small towns, from wells … no issues. I drank the filtered water in India even, though I admit not the standard tap water, though I did in Sri Lanka by accident without ill effects

If you have time to be on mumsnet and could get a delivery could you not get fresh water from the sun by building a DIY solar still.
You just need to place a container of dirty or salty water in a hole, cover it with clear plastic, and weigh the center down with a rock. The sun evaporates the water, leaving contaminants behind, and fresh drops condense on the plastic and drip into a cup.

Also I hope you're feeling better soon, and I don't know anyone that would sleep on the bathroom floor rather than their bed Flowers

Footballscominghomehey · 07/07/2026 10:17

We had almost 5 litres in, normally fine and until I was ill yesterday morning, I would have just nipped to the shop yesterday anyway, but it can come on suddenly
I asked him to please get painkillers after work, I suppose he could have got extra drinks in then

If you had 5 litres of water 24 hours ago I imagine he never would have considered it would be close to gone now.
It’s annoying you don’t have any, it doesn’t sound like it’s reasonable for him to assume you had already consumed so much, if you can post on MN all morning I’m sure ordering wasn’t a big deal.

Rather than bringing the bath bin to a more comfortable setting of your bed?

That wouldn't help with diarrhoea
