Dh didn’t leave me any water or drinks

Footballscominghomehey · 07/07/2026 09:46

I was really ill yesterday and especially last night, lots of vomiting etc (sorry tmi)
We live abroad and it’s extremely hot, we don’t drink the tap water here.
The bedroom was a real mess this morning-sick bucket full, duvet yucky, he quietly said my name to wake me up and that he was going to work.
I feel horrendous, so weak and there’s zero water and drinks. I’m trying to set up
a delivery service to see if they can deliver
Does anyone think this is a bit shitty to leave me with no drinks. Feel so dehydrated

Nope. OP has kidney stones. That’s why she’s ill and vomiting. It’s recommended to drink plenty of water - at least two to three litres per day to keep hydrated and help flush small stones

She said she ‘dran 3 bottles of water last night’ ? 250ml bottle. ?500ml bottles. ?1500ml bottles If she lives somewhere that tap water is undrinkable then they were probably 5litre bottles… that’s what made her vomit! If it’s true!

She had kidney stones not a sickness bug. If you're going to insist on being nasty to op you could at the very least, read her posts.

But it makes no difference. She had sufficient cognitive function to post and discuss on MN. So how did she not have enough to speak to her husband?

@Middletoleft "A sick bucket? I don't think I've ever used one since I was a child."

Then you've been fortunate. I haven't used one often as an adult but 2 occasions spring to mind over the last 20 years. Once when I had (what I suspected) was severe food poisoning from prawns and the other when I caught norovirus. The projectile vomiting on both occasions was incessant and violent. I only needed to move my head for it to fire out of my mouth. There was no way I could make it to the toilet and the only other alternative was to stay on my hands and knees with my head down the toilet pan. As I was being sick for 24 hours on each occasions, the latter wasn't exactly an option.

My go-to was actually the bathroom floor as I tried not to disturb anyone. I was never as ill as you were though. Just overnight.

In the case of this OP, however, having a bad attack of kidney stone pain means that the using of any kinds of words can be completely out of the question.

But this isn't the issue is it, she asked him to go and get pain killers for her the day before, so she could have asked him to buy more water at the same time then.. and if you say she didn't know she was going to drink everything they'd got that night.. well if she didn't know, then the husband didn't know either, but she did know she only had three bottles in the house.

She could have left a note, or text him overnight for him to get it in the morning, once she drank it all.

Blaming him for not leaving her any water when he was unaware that she had drank the whole supply that they had is quite frankly, bizarre.

Such low standards though.

I'd hope DH would have my back if I was ill, not just the bare minimum that is expected of another human.

OP was hoping for better from her DH and it is really sad that so many people on this thread would have no expectations of anything better.

Or he could have thought about it whilst he was getting the painkillers.

With them being in a hot country, running low, Op maybe not being able to carry bottles of water for a couple of days...

This is just such bullshit. If one member of a household is sick OF COURSE the other members, if any, take some thought fir care, comfort, etc…I would have taken more care of a roommate than her dh did of her. Its completely inexcusable.

Married for 31 years to a very humane and organized adult male who would never have left me in such straits.

I can only speak out of my own memories of having a bad attack of kidney stone pain -- if you'd asked me my name, I couldn't have told you.

She probably wasn’t thinking clearly enough, due to the sickness.

the ability to plan and anticipate is massively diminished when you’re in the midst of a vomiting bug.

getsomehelp · 08/07/2026 13:01

I hope you recover fast now,
Can you order an online water order from the supermarket, get your H to pick it up on his way home , unload to your garage, or pile up behind the sofa.( wherever)

My last “Drive” (collection) of water had 10x 6 packs of 1.5l. Lasts a couple of weeks

But when people say 'Use your words', they are intending to be patronising. They are intentionally talking to an OP whose problems could all be solved with basic communication the way they would talk to a toddler who is throwing a tantrum about something arcane.

In the case of this OP, however, having a bad attack of kidney stone pain means that the using of any kinds of words can be completely out of the question. I know I couldn't talk at all at the height of the pain when I had a really bad one. It would be like expecting clear communication from someone in the middle of crowning.

It grinds on me when grown adults on here say ‘use your words’ like they’re speaking to their 3 year old. So bloody patronising, obviously makes them feel better about themselves

You’re so keen on ‘using your words’ but can’t seem to read words properly. I said illness OR cognitive function. Do you know what that word OR means?

OP was clearly ill, and recuperating yesterday morning before she realised her husband had left without checking on her.

But if you’re going to scrape for reasons, not sure about you but when I’m vomiting violently I lose my ability to think properly. Obviously you’re some superhuman who never gets ill

im not sure why some people love kicking people while they’re down? Please tell me

The OP clearly was well enough to be discussing it on MN yesterday. So where was the issue with cognitive function? Does having a sickness bug affect your brain now?

i think you’re missing lots of words in your post there.

A grown healthy adult who is not suffering from any illness or any other reasons that would affect their cognitive functioning

Stop with the patronising ‘use your words’ it’s so boring to see that on here.

Hope you feel better today @Footballscominghomehey

If you drank 3 large bottles of water overnight maybe he didn’t realise you drank them all?

A thoughtful partner would check before swanning off to work!

OP, I hope he usually treats you better than this because it’s pretty scummy (along with a lot of the replies here. If there’s anything you CAN count on it’s the nastiness on Mumsnet).

Oh wow that's horrendous!

We'd also taken chlorine tablets with us, but apparently they don't kill all bugs.

Jo7890123 · 07/07/2026 23:43

Altho the OP said upthread that she could have tea and coffee, but really wants water - so presumably boiling the water would make it drinkable

I missed that. Thanks.

WearyAuldWumman · 07/07/2026 23:37

Even with bugs, boiling doesn't always remove the risk. I found out the hard way in the former Soviet Union - 70 British students came down with Giardiasis. (This was checked by the Institute for Tropical Medicine on our return - we all got a letter to take to our GP.)

Oh wow that's horrendous!

There are a lot of countries where the risk is to do with heavy metals such as lead or arsenic and boiling water does not remove these risks. It's not all about bacteria.
