Dh didn’t leave me any water or drinks

Footballscominghomehey · 07/07/2026 09:46

I was really ill yesterday and especially last night, lots of vomiting etc (sorry tmi)
We live abroad and it’s extremely hot, we don’t drink the tap water here.
The bedroom was a real mess this morning-sick bucket full, duvet yucky, he quietly said my name to wake me up and that he was going to work.
I feel horrendous, so weak and there’s zero water and drinks. I’m trying to set up
a delivery service to see if they can deliver
Does anyone think this is a bit shitty to leave me with no drinks. Feel so dehydrated

100% spot on with your description of how the illness goes

Hope you have recovered now xx

And there are some places you can't drink the tap water even if it is boiled - the OP mentioned they drink green tea, I assume with bottled water, not tap.

The point still stands though, scrolling and tapping out a reply on MN from your phone, in bed, is significantly fewer steps and less effort/movement than getting up and boiling some water, regardless of what you do with it after that.

Even if I didn't rely on a powerchair, there are significantly more steps to making a brew than there are to just reaching for a nearby phone and accessing mumsnet. What might seem a simple task to a well, healthy, pain free person may be monumental to someone who is unwell, not healthy, in serious amounts of pain

No, I’m not hard of understanding. No idea what all the fluff is about making a brew as that was not what I said. The OP said they gave no WATER as they cannot drink from the tap where they are. The point is you can drink boiled water, when cooled. The OP also said they are DEHYDRATED, so needs water. I pointed out they need an electrolyte solution in that case, basically you just shove sugar and salt into the water you boiled.

And yes, I’ve had gall stones, pancreatitis, my gall bladder removed. I understand the pain, but there will be some space where you can boil a kettle if you can’t safely drink water from a tap.

If you've not experienced gall bladder, kidney stones etc type pain... well you're lucky.

It isn't just painful, it is exhausting and it tends to be cyclical, so the pain ramps up, the vomiting/shitting comes on often without warning, it subsides a little and you fall asleep... then it all ramps up again and you wake up and can't speak/communicate well you're too busy grunting/swearing/puking... dies down and you nod off again...

So you may be able to communicate at some points, and not at all at others. You may be able to stagger to the loo at some points, not at others.

It is also horribly unpredictable and you do not know how long a bout is going to last, which is really stressful to deal with. Will it be over in a matter of hours, or will this be days!

I couldn’t have got down the stairs on Tuesday. I could scroll mn a bit inbetween snoozing.

I just want to highlight this part of your post @WiddlinDiddlin so that it's not missed and reading it might make some people think before they make judgmental remarks.

Agree and want to repost.

Some people are being deliberately obtuse or have no empathy to suggest otherwise

Honestly if the people posting harshly that OP didn’t “use her words” or specifically tell her dh while she was sleeping after a kidney stone induced night of pain could more clearly demonstrate that they have no experience of human kindness or nurturing behavior than a reptile born from an egg who has never known mutual care and compassion that would be great!

Maybe you could put it in all caps in case we missed it.

Those who have been lovingly parented, been loving parents ourselves, or are in loving relationships would never leave a sick family member without checking they had what they needed for the day.

This.
All day long.

I can only speak out of my own memories of having a bad attack of kidney stone pain -- if you'd asked me my name, I couldn't have told you.

But we're not talking about you.. saying OP may not have been able to speak, because you couldn't is silly, when we know that she could, and she'd already asked him to get her painkillers the day before, so was perfectly capable of communication.

My point is, SHE didn't know she was going to drink the entire water supply overnight so how could her DH have possibly known that? He could absolutely have cleaned up the room etc, but on the water front, unless OP told him it had all gone, how would he even know? And at the point of drinking it she was capable of using her phone so could have text him to ask him to get some before work.

I'm sorry but how can you blame someone for not knowing you needed something when you haven't told them you needed it??

I hope you're feeling better OP, there's things to be pissed off with him about, but I don't think the water is one of them.

HoppingPavlova · 09/07/2026 09:32

Not much of this is making sense. If you can get on Mumsnet, you can fill a kettle and boil it. If you are so dehydrated, water is not going to cut it, you need an electrolyte solution - which you can make easily. Boil water, chuck in sugar and salt (Google amount), cool. Cold water is not your friend either, room temp is much better if you need to get liquid into someone quickly.

Are you hard of thinking?

'Get on Mumsnet' = reach for phone on shelf 3 inches from my head where it charges at night (has to be close so my sensor doesn't lose connection). Tap, scroll, possibly open eyes.

'Fill and boil kettle' = remove covers, scramble out of bed, exit room, negotiate hallway, negotiate stairs, find wheelchair (may be at bottom of stairs may be charging in livingroom), get into kitchen (assuming no ones left shit in my way, boots/brooms etc), find kettle, take kettle to sink, fill kettle, take kettle back to worktop (all this is one handed trying not to kill the washing machine or dryer with the back of my chair or rip a leg rest off the front), boil kettle, find which cupboard tea bags have moved to now, reach up and pull down rack, find mug, ditto. Make brew, reverse out of kitchen to fridge, open fridge (it opens the wrong way) get milk, back to kitchen, add to brew, reverse back to fridge to put it back, shut door, back to brew, collect brew, back to bottom of stairs...then realise i can't carry a brew up the stairs as I need both hands for the bannister.

Even if I didn't rely on a powerchair, there are significantly more steps to making a brew than there are to just reaching for a nearby phone and accessing mumsnet. What might seem a simple task to a well, healthy, pain free person may be monumental to someone who is unwell, not healthy, in serious amounts of pain.

Hi all,
We have made several deletions on this thread now and would very much suggest that this back-and-forth should come to a close and everyone get back to supporting and advising the OP. Those who do not wish to do so should remove themselves from the thread.

@AMurderofMurderingCrows So it’s my fault that you have been breaking Talk Guidelines?

I haven’t done anything which requires me to defend myself btw.

@AMurderofMurderingCrows Okay you have had your say, just stop with the personal attacks, OK? You have already had one deletion and you doubled down with your last comment.

Maybe try being less condescending in your replies then I won't get posts deleted and you won't feel the need to defend yourself.

Surely if you can get up for a delivery you can boil a kettle and cool the water?

If you are in Europe the tap water is safe.

Depends on where you are in Europe. Not all of Europe is made the same. I’d never trust tap in Eastern Europe.

OP said upthread quite a while ago that she drank three 1.5 litre bottles of water. And the medical advice for kidney stones is to drink at least three to four litres of water per day to try to flush the smaller stones. Kidney stones are actually caused by not drinking enough fluids.

Kidney stones can be caused by many different causes/conditions…not just poor fluid intake. But if you’re a renal physician I’ll bow down to your medical knowledge

@AMurderofMurderingCrows Well your post was a direct personal attack so it’s a bit rich calling me names.

I think lots of people on here are really unhappy, bitchy people with sad lives. Otherwise why be so horrible?
