To REALLY want Belgium to beat the USA.
(And hope that the crowd boo Balogun whenever his foot hits the ball)

If USA lose this match, Trump is going to have a meltdown and refuse to host the other matches.

Then let’s relocate them, CAnada and Mexico can host the remaining matches.

Did anyone see Balogon's foul that led to the red card? Was it warranted? I have no doubt it was, but the spin is unreal about him being hard done by. I didn't see it myself. The ref is probably in hiding.

God I so want Belgium to win.

Yes, I think it was a red card. Balogun scraped his studs down the back of the player’s leg and stepped on his ankle. I can’t believe it has been overturned. I hope Belgium smash them.

JHound · 06/07/2026 19:27

Due to DT and FiFA corruption - YES!

Although it’s funny watching Trump going to bat for Balogun given the only reason he can even play for the USA is the birthright citizenship DT has been trying hard to overturn.

It doesn’t matter if it’s warranted. Every decision in football is subjective. The refs decision is final and red cards don’t get overturned. Those are the rules.

Agree - whether or not a the card was warranted ( it was) is absolutely irrelevant. The decision was made and checked by officials during the match and the team who had a card awarded against them doesn’t get to decide whether or not they should have got a card.

where does it end? If teams or their managers or their fucking PM or President can wade in and get the consequences changed or ‘suspended’ in the case.

FIFA, Trump and the US men’s team are an absolutely disgrace.

InSlovakiaTheCapitalOfCourseIsBratislava · 06/07/2026 19:26

I think the USA needs to get knocked out as quickly as possible
imagine the geopolitical fall out if it gets to the final…,The opposing team would have to throw the match else punitive tariffs probably don’t even to begin to describe the after effects

Yes, I know that, I was merely asking if anyone had actually seen it happen. I agree that the ref's decision is final. Shame on Infantino, but FIFA and Trump are laws unto themselves. Follow the money I suppose.

Go Belgium!

DeftGoldHedgehog · 06/07/2026 19:24

It's not the team's fault but fuck yeah, I hope Belgium kick their butts out of the tournament.

But then the orange toddler will probably want them reinstated.

Pretty much the entire world outside of the US I would imagine.
still, if US win - they’re cheats and if the US lose they’re cheats who still couldn't win.
pathetic.

dudsville · 06/07/2026 19:22

I also feel bad for the rest of the usa team. That player should feel embarrassed, fifa should apologise. Belgium must win, and a side benefit is the US team can be done with this fiasco.

Nothing against Balogun, everything against Trump and America. Go Belgium!

There's not a team in all the lands, both domestic & International, who haven't fallen foul of a poor reffing decision or 10.

The USA are not special and need to take the hits like everyone else.

Hellohelga · 06/07/2026 19:18

The whole world is rooting for Belgium and wishing the USA out. I think the USA should be banned from hosting the World Cup again for corruption. But obviously this won’t happen as FIFA is bent too. There’s the DT red card controversy, but also the visa issues, the Somali ref that couldn’t ref, Iran having to commute to matches, sky high ticket prices. Worst run WC in many years. We need to win to turn it into a positive experience in our collective memory.

Ibi · 06/07/2026 19:16

Why on earth would you be unreasonable? Belgium is a European team and we are European. You’d be much more unreasonable to support the US surely?!

JustSawJohnny · 06/07/2026 19:15

Pretty much the entirety of the footballing World is with Belgium tonight.

Shame on Infantino.

wizzbitt · 06/07/2026 19:15

Another Belgium supporter here! 🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪

Flamingcoming · 06/07/2026 19:14

Well I feel a bit bad for the rest of team USA. Dedicated athletes caught up in this shit.

LetMeStayInBed · 06/07/2026 19:11

Absolutely - Come on Belgium!

I cannot vote because while I hope Belgium trounce America, it's really not the individual players fault.

Its really not the individual players fault. The person at fault is primarily Trump (who be his own admission didn't know What a red card meant) and Infantino, whose just a total arse licker where Trump is concerned.

I've been watching the team I choose to support for over 50 years (latterly as an armchair supporter, it's true) and one of the things I've learned is that during a game/season/tournament you get penalties you shouldnt, you don't get penalties you should. Corners, fouls, card (red and yellow) the same.

it's part of the game

TheScreensNurseTheScreens · 06/07/2026 19:08

Doubt Belgium have ever had as many fans as they will tonight, or ever will again!

tinytemper66 · 06/07/2026 19:07

🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪👍👍👍👍

Whinge · 06/07/2026 19:06

We were discussing this at work today, and everyone is rooting for Belgium.

11AndCounting · 06/07/2026 19:05

Makes an absolute mockery of the prestigious FIFA Peace Prize.

(Honestly, I'm done with the World Cup - FIFA is deplorable. I love football but I've skipped this one and Qatar...and the Saudi Arabia one is around the corner).
