To ask if you have had a boob job?

I've always had really tiny boobs (32B) and have always really disliked them. I know it's really silly but I just feel like less of a woman with them being this small. When I was breastfeeding my kids, I went up to a 36C-D, and was elated with them. Now they've sagged and deflated and I'm back to hating them again. They used to be even smaller when I had an ED, they were a 30A.

I don't know what to do. I want to get a breast augmentation but I have a lot of reservations about it, namely;

  • cost
  • cost of second one when needing to get them switched out
  • not wanting to do it then regret it
  • considering maybe a fat transfer instead as I don't particularly like the implant look, but I feel anything would be better than this
  • I don't want my DD to look at me and wonder why I have done this. I don't want her to think she needs to change herself. Equally, I'm all about supporting people doing whatever makes them feel good. Yet, I can't help but feel implants are rooted in pandering to the male gaze. On the contrary, I feel that having boobs is of course a feminine quality, so maybe it's not all about that? I'm trying to figure out in my head if I'm doing it to look better for myself or other people.

This is something that I am very insecure about, so please be kind. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with small boobs, I just wish mine were bigger. I know I should be grateful that they breastfed my kids etc., and I truly am. It's just the size that bothers me. I feel like clothes just look childish on me because of it, too.

Have you ever had a boob job and did you regret it, or were you happy with them? Any complications and would you recommend? Would be interested to hear if anybody has had a fat transfer there, as well.

Yabu - don't get one
Yanbu - get one if you want to

How would it benefit you to do this?
You'd just be doing it for how others react to your appearance. I think as you get older you'd stop giving a shit about this.

You mention an eating disorder. Have you honestly explored your thoughts about whether this is related?

And there aren't any gradations to being a woman - I suspect you know this. You're female, you're no more or less a woman than any other female person.
You're possibly conflating being female with societal and cultural notions of femininity. The more people who resist those, the better, in my view! Modelling adherence to feminine standards isn't the most accepting way of bringing up a daughter.

I'm not meaning to have a go at you - at all. I just suspect there is a lot to unpack here.

All of this.

Not to mention that having small breasts is more practical and comfortable than larger ones. I'm a post-breastfeeding 28E (so not that big really) and I'd hate to be any bigger. Plus I value the guaranteed lack of scarring, potential complications, and nerve damage, over having supposedly 'perfect' breasts. It's quite a risk to take for such a flimsy reward.

Branleuse · 07/07/2026 09:57

I have already said that Ive had this done, and i just want to say that it's not as if I don't think it would have been better if none of us gave a shit about our appearances and werent affected by societys messages about women's bodies.
I spent quite a long time feeling conflicted, but I do feel that women are judged for things like breast surgery in ways that aren't consistent.

If a woman feels really bad about how her breasts look after babies and feeding, that is vanity rather than reconstructive surgery, which is a bit unfair.

325cc · 07/07/2026 09:05

I had one 12 years ago and haven’t had any issues so far. To be honest, they are a part of me so it’s easy to forget I have had it done.

I wanted them to look totally natural, but just a bit bigger. I spent quite a while researching surgeons until I found one that I was confident would give me what I wanted. To maintain a natural look he recommended over the muscle with a modest implant size with an absolute maximum volume of 350ml. I went with 325. Apparently, over the muscle works better if you already have some breast tissue, which I did. If you start off with minimal existing breast tissue or go too big, you risk the two grapefruits stuck to an ironing board look. Although some people do want that. I didn’t.

I had the op on a Thursday and was back at work on Monday. I had no pain. They gave me a couple of paracetamol when I came round from the anaesthetic but I didn’t really need them. I have not experienced loss of nipple sensation and my aureole have not changed in size. Because I used to wear a heavily padded bra pre-op there was no sudden obvious change in size and, as far as I am aware, nobody noticed that I had it done. Not even my close family and friends.

I used a private hospital that guarantees clinically necessary follow-up appointments and treatment for complications with no time limits. Something to consider.

Yes I've had two.First one before dc and second one after.Research your surgeon.Id highly recommend Mr Moritt at Claremont Hospital Sheffield.

That’s interesting and thanks for the recommendation. Would you mind sharing the cost please

MsHybridFanGirl · 07/07/2026 06:28

I had mine done 5 years ago and love them. Always wanted larger breasts, was an A cup before pregnancy DD during and empty C after. Had the op and got biggest surgeon could fit into empty skin and came out 34F/G.Waited until I was 40 to do it and wish I had done it sooner. Love the way they look in low cut dresses and tops and they are very perky. I didn't have a lift but just having the implants lifted them naturally. One of the best things I've ever done.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 07/07/2026 01:32

I had mine done twice. The last time was 15 years ago. I have never had a problem with the second set.. I had a scan as a check up recently and they’re still fine. I would advise you to go under the muscle. The first set weren’t under the muscle even though I had asked, one was harder than the other, it was encapsulated. I had them removed and replaced by a brilliant surgeon and have never had an issue. I was a 32aa. I went for a D under the muscle as it takes a little from the size. I’m a 34 C or D now.

sharkstale · 07/07/2026 00:14

I had mine done 2.5 years ago and have absolutely no regrets. I was a 32a and it was my one body hangup. Like you say, I never felt womanly. I didn't have an ED but I did make sure to stay extra slim as even the tiniest bit of extra weight made my body look odd with such a flat chest, so I stayed at a size 6-8. I couldn't wear what I wanted to wear and had to wear clothes that hid my chest.
I'm now a 32D and a size 10. I feel and look the best/healthiest I've ever looked. I've also had a baby and breastfed since having them and they haven't sagged at all.
I went with MYA and they were great. I was really scared of having the operation but it was really easy. The recovery was easy with no complications. You can barely see the scars now. I was really scared of infections etc but had no issues. Your aftercare will take care of you should anything happen.
At your height and current bra size, any reputable surgeon won't let you go too big. Mine advised either 300cc or 325cc. The 325's would have had to have been textured implants, I did my research and found that textured ones are the ones that carry the type of cancer risk someone mentioned above, so I went with 300 smooth. They've completey and absolutely changed my whole life. I have no body issues now, I'm not tempted to go for more surgery as others have suggested, I'm confident in how I look which in turn has helped my mental health and how I feel inwardly about myself. It's crazy how body issues can actually change how you perceive yourself and your self worth and how you conduct yourself. It's honestly changed my life.
I wouldn't take on board the comments from those you haven't had one. They don't understand how it feels to have your self esteem so badly affected by it.

desperatemum1234 · 06/07/2026 23:38

I am so sad that any woman feels less of a woman due to small breasts or feels that they need to change themselves. I’m much smaller than you OP, AA, but I love my body.

Heckinhackedoff · 06/07/2026 19:12

Oh my god, are you being serious??? That's so terrifying. I am honestly horrified after reading that. I am adding all of these comments to a list of sorts to try and help me to decide what to do. This is going at the top of the cons list, in bold. Thank you for sharing, really hope your friend is okay now (is she??)

She is fine now - it was about 3 years ago. But it took her the better part of a year to fully recover.

Tink3rbell30 · 06/07/2026 23:17

No no no. Breast implant illness is becoming more and more common and you have to keep having them done throughout your life. So much can go wrong, rupture, bottoming out, CC, pocket deformity, implant recalls etc. (From someone who's had 3 breast ops). Just not worth it!

In a discussion about, say, educational policy, or taxation, yes. In a discussion about what a person should do to their own body? Absolutely not. Zero other opinions are allowed. Factual information about scarring and nerve damage and infection, yes. Opinions no.

That’s for the o/p to say though. She asked the question and may find the wider opinion range helpful.

it’s not your place to decide what the o/p wants to hear.

But she's effectively inviting opinions / discussion with the question.

TheGrimSmile · 06/07/2026 22:56

No, I couldn't bear the feeling of having a "foreign object" stitched inside my body; it just goes against every instinct in my body. In fact, Ive had a mastectomy and refused reconstruction for that reason. I dont judge anyone who does at all. But I think given your background, you need to think long and hard about whether this will help you.

Notgonnalieaboutthis · 06/07/2026 22:50

No. I love my boobs the way they are

MaryBeardsShoes · 06/07/2026 22:48

Spidey66 · 06/07/2026 17:10

i have big boobs naturally and I hate them. They make me look even fatter than I am and I find it hard to find clothes that suit me. Bras for bigger women are ugly and harder to find. When I was younger I found men were often more interested in my boobs than me.

i hope I don’t come across as judgmental but for the life of me I don’t understand why women want bigger boobs.

I totally agree. I have a large chest and it’s a total pain. Exercise, finding clothes that fit, back ache, decent bras. Even getting a massage is annoying because lying on my front is so uncomfortable.

Other people’s opinions can help people see the world in a different way, surely thats helpful in many areas of life.

Look at all these fabulous women with small boobs. They are 100% feminine and beautiful. https://shopbitties.com/blogs/bitties-blog/40-stunning-celebrities-with-small-boobs

If i’d have looked like any of these ladies i wouldn’t have had them done. I didn’t. I looked like imane khelif and couldn’t find any women’s clothes to fit, at all.

If a person is miserable with their body it’s ok to want to change it.

You all just sound so sanctimonious. ‘I would never, you should never, women should never…’

There are pros and cons. Factual data points for both. OP is asking for them. Not other people’s opinions on what she should do with her own body. As women we can do better than spend our time policing one another’s bodily autonomy.

I’m sure o/p is capable of reading and deciding what information she thinks is relevant or not. It’s a discussion and people can have their say.

personally I think it’s very relevant to hear from people with bigger breasts- natural or not. It may help o/p realise it’s not all great on the other side and there are advantages to smaller boobs.

But she didn’t say she wanted to go huge. There’s a massive difference between an enhanced c / d cup and a natural F or whatever.

Yetanotherone12 · 06/07/2026 21:40

thisandthats · 06/07/2026 19:42

I've noticed like 75% of comments on this thread aren't actually answering the question. OP has asked for experiences (good and bad) of people who have had a boob job.

Most responses are either -

  • don't get one
  • I would never get one
  • I have big boobs and would never get one
  • I have small boobs and would never get one

Reign your necks in ladies. She wasn't asking for a general public consultation on the concept of breast surgery. She was asking for experiences.

My boobs are teeny and I love them!
I used to wish they were bigger when I was younger, but now (I'm 48) I would hate to be any bigger.
They are still very pert, despite two pregnancies and extended BF. I can go bra-less (I do use nipple covers!). I can run and exercise freely. They don't hurt or get in the way. I am honestly delighted with them 🤣

Casceres · 06/07/2026 21:14

I had implants. Quite small ones and just to balance my proportions out really. Was very pleased with them and made me feel much more confident etc.
But some years after having the op, I started getting some strange medical issues. I had private health insurance and so had various investigations, including MRI. It was suspected I had MS but absolutely nothing showed up.

One day I had a light bulb moment and started researching whether the implants could be making me ill. I quickly realised it was likely the case and arranged to have them removed. The surgeon who did the explant said she does far more explants than implants. From the day I had the implants removed I no longer had the symptoms so I have no doubts that my body was rejecting the foreign objects. Breast implant illness is a real thing.

I miss them but at the end of the day my health is more important.

Good luck with your decision.
