Would you ask them to turn it down? Exhausted

Detached properties, not massively close. Next door playing v v loud music, can hear the beat mostly. Also can hear lots of chatter. They’re outside. We get on with neighbours but not friends as such. We didn’t know they were having some sort of do but there’s a few cars outside so they must be.

I know they’re just having fun but I literally can’t sleep. Have to be up in 6 hours. Is it worth texting to ask them to turn it down? I know they’ll think I’m a bloody pain. Would you ask?

Ear plugs?

Im wondering if you live in my road. I reckon its teens having a party based on the music. Really hoping it tones down at midnight.

It’s a hard one as while they are being very unreasonable, I’m assuming this definitely not a regular thing with them, it is a Saturday night (not necessarily a good excuse as people do work Sundays), and they might be having an important celebration. Having their number is useful to avoid a confrontation. I’d probably text now something along the lines of ‘I’m so sorry to be a killjoy but could you possibly lower the volume of the music at midnight? I wouldn’t mind but I’m up for work at half 5 and I can’t sleep. Thank you so much’.

Yes. I would ask. But they may say no. I asked our neighbours a few weeks back (at midnight) to lower the volume and they said no. Its really rare they do hold an outside gathering but i thought that was selfish and their refusal made me feel worse. But. If you don't ask, you don't get and I think its reasonable to ask them to lower the volume.

If they were doing it every night then of course you should tell them. If this is a one off then I’d leave it.

Those who can’t tolerate some reasonable amount of noise from others living normal lives around them simply shouldn’t live in built up areas. If you need that kind of silence you need to look for a more isolated property.
