New DP overreacting?!!

Nettlesal · 03/07/2026 20:26

I grew up with two brothers and have had a few ex’s, all were not shy at all about breaking wind around me. New DP - together about 2 months. I decided I wasn’t going to keep holding it in for ever so let one go in bed last night. He shot up, said how disgusted he was and that women don’t do that and if I did it again he’d dump me?! Is it me or are men absolute hypocrites when it comes to this 😂

The stuff people post on here is just weird.

Or worse🤔

There's a distinct fodder gathering posting style though.

Notabarbie · 04/07/2026 10:21

I understand why he was disgusted. But his idea that women shouldn't do this is not becoming to him.

He doesn't sound that into you if he's prepared to make threats like that.

It can come across as very disrespectful. And unpleasant for the people around you. I wouldn't appreciate someone doing this deliberately.

You've killed me with your deliberate farting 😂😂😂

Everyone farts. Even you.

I don't fart in front of people, mostly because I have a high fibre vegan diet and they smell, so I don't want to subject anyone to that. Because I'm considerate, respectful and not a dick.

JackandVictor · 04/07/2026 10:20

thingsarefine · 04/07/2026 09:37

I genuinely don’t understand the absolute pearl clutching about farting.

Would I do it at work? No. But I’m not going to sit at home uncomfortable with wind.

This.

RoseField1 · 04/07/2026 10:19

Two separate issues
First is that deliberately farting in bed is disgusting, and it's disrespectful to your partner whether you're male or female.
Second is that he thinks women don't fart, that's a problem. But if he's not been farting in bed with you, it was probably a shock that you thought that was ok.

thingsarefine · 04/07/2026 09:51

I’m genuinely intrigued. Do you sit at home and every time you feel the need to fart, get up and leave the room? Surely that’s disruptive and just drawing more attention to it?

If you need to leave the room for this reason often enough to attract curiosity then you have digestive issues or a poor diet, or both.

Katemax82 · 04/07/2026 10:18

Just to add my stepdad does disgusting rancid farts all the time because "he can't help it"
Luckily I no longer see him

Katemax82 · 04/07/2026 10:16

I've always farted in front of my husband but then I'm weird. If your partner ever farts in front of you dump his ass for being a hypocrite

Kokonimater · 04/07/2026 10:14

I don’t think they’re hypocrites.

if a man I was with did that it would be an immense turn off.
it’s not funny or sexy or attractive.
yes we all do it accidentally at times its a normal bodily function but to think it’s ok to ‘let one go’ and think nothing of it is totally yuk. You might have put him off forever.

Ponoka7 · 04/07/2026 10:12

You aren't compatible. It's fine he has that deal breaker, as long as he applies the same standard to himself. I wouldn't like it and would avoid doing it, but that's how I was brought up. The men around me didn't do it and unlike a lot of men on here, managed to not piss all over the toilet. If posters are to be believed about the jobs they do, they are controlling themselves at work.

Be careful about posting responses to this everyone

AgnesMcDoo · 04/07/2026 10:09

He’s not a ‘DP’ after 2 months.

You are still in the very early stages of dating where you find stuff out about him.

You now know he has a red line on farting and is probably a bit sexist. If farting is your thing and you prefer your men not to be arseholes now is the time to escape.

if you can hold your farts and don’t mind a bit of casual sexism then you stay in the relationship that may build towards partnership

Deliberate farting by other people is revolting no matter who does it. I think you have a weird family to be honest, it's not normal for men to do this.

LlynTegid · 04/07/2026 10:04

I think that breaking wind is something to do on the toilet, nowhere else. OP has a different view.

Just incompatible.

Yeah, 'cos farting is sooo funny 🙄
Everyone does it, they have to but why the performance, laughing and joking about it? People like that sound about 10. [no desrespect to 10 year olds].
Bathroom or just fart discreetly if possible, no need to draw attention to it.

Walking out of the room every time you need to will be more disruptive than just doing it

OvernightBloats · 04/07/2026 10:01

Dump him. That's no way to live. Him judging you so harshly for a natural human function is so out of order.

How would he cope if you became really ill? Would he treat a girl differently to a boy if he had children? He is sexist, judgemental and has no compassion.

Farting should only take place in the toilets, no matter whether male, female or whatever other sex is now available.

My DH thinks this. But according to the nhs, people fart on average 20 times per day and for some people it is a lot more. I can’t believe everyone goes to the bathroom every time.

farting is like sneezing. Your body does it sometimes and you apologise and try not to sneeze on food. But there is no point getting angry with someone for an accidental sneeze or an accidental fart.

Someshinesomedont · 04/07/2026 09:54

You should go to the bathroom. I suspect that he will be put off you now.

thingsarefine · 04/07/2026 09:51

AlphabetCucumber · 04/07/2026 09:50

No, that’s vile. Sometimes farting near people is unavoidable and shouldn’t be a big deal. Deliberately choosing to fart near other people when you could go somewhere else is gross.

The only unreasonable thing from his is the “women don’t do that” comment. Potentially he has some sexist views. But he’s still not wrong to object to farting around people, as long as he doesn’t do it himself.

Lurkingandlearning · 04/07/2026 09:48

Well now you know he isn't one to go with whatever way the wind blows.

If you want to be free to fart as and when you have one in the pipe in your own home, then he is not the man for you. At least you didn't trap his head under the duvet.

ChavsAreReal · 04/07/2026 09:48

There is no right or wrong here.

You agree between you what is acceptable. Now if he's trying to hold you to different standards than himself, that's another issue.
