Well I’m with your DP up to a point. Someone farting in the bed I’m lying in would revolt me, however his comment about women not doing it would piss me right off. Implying that it’s okay for men to do these but not women in my view is misogynistic. I’ve had a couple of dates with men who have held women to higher standards. One thought it was okay for him to get steaming drunk and act like one of the lads but made a big fuss when I had one more glass of wine than normal and got a bit tipsy (i’m not much of a drinker). He could barely walk straight and was slurring but said that I’d embarrassed him by acting unladylike! I was just a bit giggly. He didn’t get another date.

I fart like fuck, joys of peri. DH and I find it hilarious. No way would I be with someone that uptight and sexist.

My husband (together for 26 years) has never intentionally done this in front of me and neither has I with him. Yuck 🤢

I grew up with a brother. Have lots of exes. With current partner for 11 years and married for 5. I’ve never intentionally farted in front of him nor him me. They’re not totally hidden or never happen but it’s both done out of respect and to not kill all the sexiness.

I’ve never deliberately done it myself and I didn’t like guys doing it either. I would have gone to the bathroom or something. An accidental fart is one thing but letting one rip on purpose is hugely off putting to me. I didn’t grow up in a house of deliberate farters so it’s not the norm for me.

No-one would die if you came out of the loo straight after pooing and wiped your arse in public so you didn’t miss what was happening on the tv. Would you do that? If not, "chill the fuck out"!

To do it intentionally in a closed space IS gross, although if you both do it and neither minds then let loose, I guess. Your boyfriend's saying that "women" don't do it rather than "people" shouldn't do it suggest that he personally is a misogynist, unless maybe he has limited English and is struggling with wording.

At it's essence, this is about feeling completely comfortable with your OH. People do this in different ways

In my own home, I do what I like.
Most of the time I am in the loo but sometimes I'm not. My DH does the same. It really isn't a big deal to us.
I think this is what most people do.

Others on this thread obviously feel differently, that's fine. It's interesting that so many class farting in front of your OH a deal breaker.

If you burp or fart voluntarily or intentionally in front of me, yes I'll be disgusted. It's extremely inconsiderate - your view is that your comfort trumps politeness and my disgust at being exposed to it.

If it's inadvertent, no big deal.

Similarly, I don't expect to be exposed to someone else's excrement except if they're extremely unwell, in which case it's not voluntary and not their fault.
As period leaks and vomiting are generally not intentional or voluntary.

It has nothing to do with the natural bodily function in itself, and everything to do with the lack of respect and consideration for other people inherent in just letting rip in front of them, unless it's been explicitly okayed.
