Decoy Wedding?!

Apologies I haven't gone through any individual topic to see if there are threads.

But with all the shit in the world going on, and true escapism is anyone else thoroughly excited about the "potential" TS/TK nuptials?

I find I'm far too invested! Pathetic to be so interested? Very possibly but I don't care!

Again apologies if there's already something going... If there is can someone share!

I have zero interest in her music but I'm sort of old now

However...

I like the way she seems to have matched the cost of the wedding with charity donations. I like the way she seems to have no problem giving money away generally.

She's the Madonna of the modern age (the well known singer, not the Mother of God, of course) and while I vastly prefer eg Kate Bush, some of the vitriol levelled at a woman who seems to have done no wrong other than be spectacularly successful is mind blowing.

As for not being King Crimson @QuintadosMalvados , there are plenty who would think that a good thing.

Well said. I can think of few artists I would rather listen to less than King Crimson and their tedious old man prog ilk. But that's just my personal taste!
I'm assuming all the people accusing TS of being a vacuous pop star who only writes bitter songs about her exes has never actually heard a TS album. I consider her to be the greatest lyricist in pop music history, a true lyrical poet. Her lyrics are rich and detailed and abound in intertextual references. She has also tackled a range of subjects in her lyrics. Her lyrics are often intensely, sometimes brutally, personal but she also writes story songs from a number of different points of view. I would advise sceptics to listen to folklore, evermore, Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department.
Also, so what if she writes songs about love affairs past and present. Are posters under the impression that only female pop stars do this?

Who said these kids are ‘invested’ apart from you?

The entire country lost its shit when Charles and Diana got married, and neither of them had a skill between them.

These two people are at the absolute peak of their industries, after decades of hard work. Not bad role models at all.

Sneer away though 🤷‍♀️

Well the poster (and others) clearly thought they would be invested as she saw fit to announce it in class and then structure a lesson around it.

Vacuous = a criticism never ever levelled at a man.

No - men can equally be vacuous. Ant and Dec, most reality TV men and women, to name but a few.

slashlover · 04/07/2026 18:06

After her tour she gave away almost $200 million in bonuses, including approx $750,000 to each of the dancers and $100K to the truck drivers, stage managers and practically everyone involved with the tour. That was in addition to their salaries.

I'm just looking forward to seeing the dress!

And the shoes! I loved that all her shoes on the Eras tour were louboutins!

I suppose it’s never too early to influence small children. I think it’s a little depressing that celeb culture is so invasive now.

I remember liking pop music but not being invested in the actual stars at that age.

But being AUDHD (undiagnosed til middle age) I would have been mightily pissed off at the assumption that everyone was interested in something like this.

You really do come across as the head girl berating another pupil for views you don't agree with. Lol.

Let it go.

And there’s your internal misogyny again. Do you struggle with women having a different opinion to you?
I don’t have an issue with your taste in music the difference is I haven’t tried to belittle you or others that share your tastes. The world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things but your preferences aren’t better than anyone else’s.

There were a million different ways you could have chosen to say you’re not a fan. But you chose to belittle other women.

This is weird because you're coming across like the girl who crashes a lunch table, uninvited, and then complains about the conversation. You said in an earlier post that you weren't 12, but then you don't seem to have moved much beyond that in social awareness. Lol? Really?

And I'm no particular TS fan, although my kids certainly like her and I think she's as good a role model as any female star.

QuintadosMalvados · 04/07/2026 16:04

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 15:56

I’ll call out misogyny and attempts to belittle women when I see it.
Thats not browbeating anyone. You made a comment which was an attempt to belittle other women’s tastes. Maybe reflect on why you think that’s acceptable.

Maybe you are actually 12 😂

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 15:56

Why you think it's acceptable to browbeat another woman for what are just at the end of the day reasonable observations after all is also beyond me, too.

So let's leave it there.

There is a huge difference between having a preference and going out of your way to belittle people for having a different preference to you.
That’s what your post attempted to do. It was a long winded way of saying your music tastes are superior to those who are TS fans.

It’s easy to just say that you don’t like a particular genre or artist. Even easier to not bother commenting at all on things that don’t interest you.

Whatever.

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 15:54

QuintadosMalvados · 04/07/2026 15:49

It seems to me that she is a no - sexual girl crush for women who are past 40.
It's just an observation.

Yes, yes I do. I can't stand it when men write about relationships, too.
This is why favourite genre is prog rock.

I don't really care if you think it's bitter and pathetic.
Again she's a well known history about writing about her exes so this is not actually a controversial thing to say.

I am not a TS fan, her music isn’t my taste but went to her concert and really enjoyed it. She seems like a great person and I’m glad her and her husband had the wedding they wanted.

Calling her inane is way off the mark. Her Eras tour brought £1bn into the U.K. economy. 1,400 food banks benefitted from donations from her. You can hate her music, you can even hate her personality, but you can’t deny what she has done.

QuintadosMalvados · 04/07/2026 15:53

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 15:47

And I’m calling it pathetic @QuintadosMalvados because you’ve decided to comment on a post about a person you don’t particularly like just to have a dig at people who do.
Why a grown woman would think that’s acceptable behaviour is beyond me.

Liking female singers doesn’t stop you from making misogynistic comments.

While I am neutral about her (TS) she is like a weird non-sexual crush for older women.

This comment is misogynistic. Why are you bothered why ‘older women’ might like TS? Why mention age at all?

The rest is vacuous pop songs about exes which she seems to perform half-naked.

Do you criticise male singers for writing songs about relationships? Or on what they’re wearing?

Never mind I suppose this whole spectacle will be good for the inevitable divorce album.
Which I won't be buying as I'm not 12.

This is just bitter and pathetic.

Fwiw there's a ton of female singer songwriters I love:
Kate Bush
Ann and Nancy Wilson
Chrissie Hynde
to name but a few.

You ran a lesson based around some pointless celeb wedding? Bet the parents loved that. I guess it’s never too early to introduce small children to inane celebs and their lives

My daughter’s Nat 5 English exam had a piece about TS in it. The kids loved it.

I await, with bated breath, your jumping off point for a phonics lesson, since you seem to believe it would need to be of universal interest in and of itself.

I am auadhd and I remember obsessions over boybands in the 1990s. I remember the reaction when Take That split. I was in primary school and I remember the pencil cases and lunch boxes etc. I wasn't into them particularly myself, but I remember it, and had interests elsewhere.

There was also of course Beatlemania and other examples around the world. My friend is obsessed with BTS and Korean pop music, which goes over my head personally, but small children are going to interact with what is mainstream around them and the market is there. I remember a My Little Pony movie where cynically they swapped one castle for another castle in the film, and of course it was because new merchandise was coming out. There have been versions of this around before.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 04/07/2026 15:32

And btw, this wedding references "The Lucky One" which is about the fickle nature of fame, and grappling with the choice to embrace stardom, knowing the endless criticism that will come with it and the inevitable discarding for younger stars as you age, or bowing out of public life and retreating.

The Lucky One chose the rose garden over Madison Square. Taylor got engaged in the rose garden and married in Madison Square- she can have both. And boring, mediocre people with nothing better to do will hate her for it.
