Apologies I haven't gone through any individual topic to see if there are threads.

But with all the shit in the world going on, and true escapism is anyone else thoroughly excited about the "potential" TS/TK nuptials?

I find I'm far too invested! Pathetic to be so interested? Very possibly but I don't care!

Again apologies if there's already something going... If there is can someone share!

Yes and also boring
mind you it has raised an interesting interaction with people who also find it weird for an adult to be so invested in a pop singer that she doesn’t know.

That’s a very narrow minded attitude. Most people are multi faceted and have a range of interests. Enjoying pop music doesn’t make you boring or mean you’re not sensible - although interestingly sensible and boring are often used together rather than opposite descriptions.

I like pop music in general and TS falls into that category. I wouldn’t describe myself as a hardcore swiftie or anything. I’m interested in the wedding because I like weddings and celebrations. I’ve also been to MSG a few times so I’m interested in how they transformed it into a wedding venue.
I have other interests- I read extensively, travel loads, I have a PhD and I’m a university professor. I also happen to like pop music and TS. Not sure why that’s the part of my personality that makes me boring!

At the age of, what, 5???

It’s not about being fun sponges. Five year olds being taught in school about celeb culture is odd, no?

It’s not about ‘celeb culture’ is it? You’re purposely over-analysing a teacher that has incorporated a very popular pop star among children to keep the lesson relevant and interesting to children. There really is nothing more to it than that. As has been the case for decades small children like pop stars. Those little girls murdered in Southport? At a Taylor Swift themed dance class. If you can’t see that kids enjoy it and understand why a phonics lesson incorporating it may have generated interest then you are a fun sponge.

I have 2 granddaughters 8 and 5. I have never heard either mention any singer they do like to play dress up though but it’s an angel a witch, or the Princess in Frozen
Everytime I hear stuff like this I am grateful that my son married an incredibly sensible woman

Are you suggesting that an adult Taylor Swift fan can’t also be a sensible woman?

I don’t think that I have ever met an adult woman who is interested in Taylor Swift…..

Mickey you are coming off as slightly over invested. This is what gives Swifties a bit of a rep.

Some of us just dont really care.

I can't speak for Mickey but if someone is making factually incorrect statements, I will correct them.

BusyExpert · 04/07/2026 20:32

Logic clearly isn’t your strong point is it? You have to read a post to know it is completely asinine
are you a teenager?.

PanickingOnASunday · 04/07/2026 19:51

QuintadosMalvados · 04/07/2026 18:47

Exactly. I don't mind being accused of musical snobbery that's fair enough (though so what? It's just a difference of opinion) but if a man over a certain age started going on about how great Taylor Swift is I'd feel exactly the same about him. Like wtf, dude.

So no not misogyny. At all. People just toss the misogyny word about to shut others down - in my opinion of course.

Feminism is really odd these days.
Sure she is admirable for her business acumen. Who could deny it? I certainly won't.

But as far as I can see her songs are mostly about milking ex relationships while wearing very little for the male gaze.

That's not my version of feminism.

So yeah she's really, really good at making money but that's not why people view her as being so great so I'm just wondering what else there actually is to admire.

Then clearly you've not listened to much of her music.
Which is obviously your prerogative. But don't expect to not be challenged by people who have when you come out with very worn out criticisms of her

It's objectively false that all or even most of her songs are about ex relationships. She has entire albums which don't feature any songs about ex relationships.

I have said that should any man over a certain age express the same level of idolation towards her I would feel exactly the same about him.

And I really, really would. So I strongly refute any accusations of misogyny.

And I can be equally scathing about Ed Sheeran, too. And Take That who now look ridiculous as a 'boy band' in middle age. And that boring George Ezra.

This is the Internet. Not everybody is going to agree.

As to not knowing anything about her, well unless you personally know her, you don't know her either, so I don't know what your point is.

So logically, assuming you don't know her either, our views have equal validity.

I’m not the one insulting her am I?
You must know that the insults you are using are generally used towards women and not men. You saying that you use them towards male artists too doesn’t change that. And do you really comment on what make artists are wearing? Again, unless you’ve been living under rock you must know that women are routinely subjected to judgement in this way. You’re just contributing to it whether that’s your intention or not (hence the internalised misogyny)

I really don’t understand your obsession with age. Why does that even matter? Music is music, you either like it or you don’t. Age is irrelevant.
My husband is 54 and loves her music. We’ve had many a great night dancing and singing to TS and other similar music.

@Anarchy99
But she is though. Time person of the year. Ridiculous numbers of records broken
20 years and she is still such a massive part of the industry. Again you don't have to like it, but she is hugely significant.

QuintadosMalvados · 04/07/2026 19:09

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 18:58

Nobody is asking you to admire her. That’s the point. You don’t have to.

But you seem unable to say that without making comments which are judgemental and, in my opinion, misogynistic. That’s what I have an issue with. Why can’t you just say ‘ she’s not to my taste’ and move on?

Why do you have use such negative and judgmental language to describe a woman who you know very little about.
Even this post is full of judgement and comments which are rarely (if ever) used to describe male artists.

My husband and I are both devoted Swifties, as are many of our friends, we have all been over-invested in the TS and TK love story and far too excited about the wedding of two strangers. I know it's a bit pathetic, but TS is a major part of our lives and I am glad to find we're not alone!
I also thought MSG may have been a decoy but it's looking quite convincing. I was hoping for a private ceremony at Holiday House, that would have been so romantic.
I do realise that none of this is my business but I am still far too excited about this wedding. I wish them both all the best, I feel like I have been through so many of TS'heartbreaks with her, thanks to her extraordinary music, that I hope she is finally going to get her happy ending. The Tortured Poets Department is my favourite TS album, I like The Life Of A Showgirl, but it is not in the same league as the four albums which preceded it, especially TTPD, but TLOAS seems to be a happy, loved-up album where as TTPD was very much an album of doomed love and melancholy. So, even though TLOAS can't compare to TTPD, I wouldn't want TS to stay sad just so she could write another album like it.

I just dont get it. I have tried to understand the hype.

I have 50+ female friends who went all lala on the last tour with kids plastic bracelets up their arms in sparkly outfits, bidding for tickets and spending fortunes to fly to cities hours away.

Her music is objectively ok (to me) and I understand that many adore it - usually for this genre of music, that's a specific demographic.

TS seems to transcend that demographic and I almost feel left out in the cold.

I suppose if you know, you know.

Anarchy99 · 04/07/2026 15:01

She is no more significant than any other popular pop star.

Her wedding - not remotely significant

She is more significant than other pop stars. She has changed the music biz, she's the wealthiest singer in history, and she's the best singer-songwriter of her generation. She writes most of her songs herself, which most other pop stars don't.

The entire thing would have been drowned out by hundreds of helicopters and drones, the water in front would have been filled with long lens paparazzo jostling for space. The disruption to the neighbours would have been horrendous.

MSG has flight restrictions imposed all the time. You can't restrict airspace over a private residence.

I Googled, and in Rhode Island you can request a Temporary Flight Restriction if you're a VIP. And you have a lot of control over drones - you can use signal-jamming equipment.

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 18:49

Anarchy99 · 04/07/2026 18:18

Well the poster (and others) clearly thought they would be invested as she saw fit to announce it in class and then structure a lesson around it.

its not uncommon for a teacher to do this as many people have explained. I’ve known teachers use the World Cup as the starting point for a lesson on geography for example.

It might not appeal 100% to all students but so what? It’s impossible to do that anyway but it actually doesn’t matter. It’s the underpinning learning outcomes that are important. Those children need to learn those phonics sounds and a one off lesson which is hooked on a current event is not going to damage those kids or negatively impact their learning.

Oh should we only be commenting if we agree with the OP? That’s not how the internet works, you know.

No that’s not what I’m saying at all.
I have zero issue with people not liking TS or being bothered about her wedding. I quite like her and have a passing interest in her wedding but I’m by no means a super fan.

I only have issue with people who are going out of their way to belittle people who do like her and her music or people who are going out of their way to post misogynistic vitriol about a woman they don’t even know.

It is possible to either not engage with things that don’t interest you or engage in a way that’s respectful.

I have to wonder what makes an adult comment on something that doesn’t interest them just to have a sly dig at people who are interested in that topic. It’s just nasty.

What happened to scrolling on by and spending time on your actual interests?
