Decoy Wedding?!

Apologies I haven't gone through any individual topic to see if there are threads.

But with all the shit in the world going on, and true escapism is anyone else thoroughly excited about the "potential" TS/TK nuptials?

I find I'm far too invested! Pathetic to be so interested? Very possibly but I don't care!

Again apologies if there's already something going... If there is can someone share!

The thing about being ND is that the world has never felt like it revolved around me. And that’s fine.

However this kind of shit being brought into the classroom is clearly to appeal directly to a section of the class and therefore excluding the rest of them. Why are their interests any more relevant?

But that happens all the time. There will be another lesson at some point which will appeal to a different group.
I’ve seen dozens of lessons framed around the World Cup. That won’t appeal to everyone. As long as it doesn’t dominate the whole curriculum it’s not a problem. It’s a one off lesson.

MickyMoonshine · 04/07/2026 15:25

It’s also good to teach children that the world doesn’t revolve around them. A lesson based on something that isn’t specifically link to your interests won’t kill you.

Oops three posts in a row. Hit post too soon.
Anyway, @MickyMoonshine misogyny means a prejudice against women and girls.
I honestly don't see it as a prejudice if I apply the "same criticisms towards men as I do women.
There is no prejudice involved. I am not favouring one over the other.
So frankly I don't know what the heck you're going on about.

If I used a racist insult to someone but didn’t intend it in a racist way and claim use that particular phrase towards people of all races and ethnicities would that be okay in your book?

MickyMoonshine · 05/07/2026 12:08

QuintadosMalvados · 05/07/2026 11:57

@MickyMoonshine is it not permissable to say that a person writes vacuous pop songs if they're female?

Why say that at all? Can’t you just say it’s not to your taste? Why do you need to use a derogatory word to describe something?

MickyMoonshine · 05/07/2026 12:07

QuintadosMalvados · 05/07/2026 11:53

How can it be misogyny and sexism if I apply it equally to both sexes?

Please explain.

Because the of the historical use of that language towards women and how it’s typically used put women down.
How often do men get criticised for dressing for the female gaze?
How often do men get criticised for writing vacuous songs about relationships?

You claim to insult male and female artists equally but society historically doesn’t. Therefore when you use typically sexist and misogynistic insults towards a women, you shouldn’t be surprised if that is challenged.

I find it irritating that you’re making shit up. Which is what you’re doing.
I have not claimed that I think she is a feminist icon. You’ve made that up.

My issue isn’t that you are making those comments about TS specifically. I would have an issue with you making that comments about any female artist. I challenge misogyny and sexism wherever I see it.

The only TS specific criticism I take issue with are the ones that are factually incorrect. That’s because I also can’t abide liars.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 05/07/2026 11:47

And a fairytale wedding is most definitely not feminist.

What exactly is non-feminist about a fairytale wedding? The aesthetics? Getting married in the first place?

I thought the whole point of feminism was to allow women autonomy over their own lives - or is that only if they make choices that certain other women agree with?

MickyMoonshine · 05/07/2026 11:42

QuintadosMalvados · 05/07/2026 11:32

Well to be honest I think that it can be reasonably argued that the traditional wedding gown and traditional weddings themselves are indeed symbols of patriarchal oppression but that's by the by.

You did make this into a gender issue by saying I was a misogynist because I wouldn't direct any criticisms I made towards TS towards men.
Which I bloody well would and, in fact, do.
I think Take That look ridiculous. I think Jagger looks ridiculous prancing around the stage like he's 20. Ed Sheeran writes vacuous pop songs.

Ozzy dressed as he did on stage when he was well past it.
The Rolling Stones still presenting themselves as hip.

So maybe I'm not a nice person for these observations but I'm an equal opportunities offender.

I don't think she's great, anyway.
Admirable for her business skills. Does make great popular music (after all 'pop' is short for popular) that I don't like at all.

So you're irritated by me. Well so what?
You have irritated me too.

And while this may not apply to you, there is very much a tendency to describe her as a feminist icon.

Like some did in the eighties about Thatcher because she admittedly was very feisty and a go-getter.
Yeah trying telling that to the women whose lives were made hell in the eighties by shutting down the coal mines.

I have 2 granddaughters 8 and 5. I have never heard either mention any singer they do like to play dress up though but it’s an angel a witch, or the Princess in Frozen
Everytime I hear stuff like this I am grateful that my son married an incredibly sensible woman

I'm very amused that you've used young children dressing up as a Disney princess as some kind of superiority flex.

There are many scholarly articles out there on the benefits of music for children's cognitive and emotional development, by the way.

For someone who seems very proud of being too intellectual to like Taylor Swift, it's interesting that you are either too slow or too stubborn to hear MOST OF TAYLOR SWIFT'S SONGS ARE NOT ABOUT HER EXES. It's pretty simple, so I'm not sure why you're struggling unless you have language comprehension difficulties? I assumed that you thought that because you were speaking about her music without actually listening to it, but maybe you have and just aren't capable of comprehending it.

@MickyMoonshine I don't care if you like Taylor Swift, either.
What is irritating, though, is the way you're trying to shoehorn her as a feminist icon.
Just because she's an ace business woman and writes popular songs doesn't make her a feminist.
Because really those are the only two things you know about her.

You're projecting all this feminist stuff onto her onto her. Why?
Just say you like her music.
People like you always have to justify things though with your own views to the point where anybody who disagrees gets shut down.

I’ve never said she’s a feminist icon. You’ve made that bit up. That’s bloody irritating.

MickyMoonshine · 05/07/2026 10:11

QuintadosMalvados · 05/07/2026 09:39

It would make sense if you had.
It is after all chockful of celebrity wedding photos.
Or maybe not Hello but the American version.

It's a fair assumption that those who love celeb culture - as you seem to do because what is Taylor Swift if not one of THE biggest celebs on the planet- have bought it.

But then my feminist icons of the present day are the likes of Sandra Peggie, the Darlington nurses and JKR who have taken on the trans lobby. Not Taylor Swift.
JKR now she's a celeb worth wearing on a t-shirt.

And that wonderful Kellie Jay Keen.
What a woman.

But what do I know? I am a terrible misogynist after all. 😁 (sarcasm, obvs)

You seem to struggle with understanding that people are complex and multi faceted.
I have a passing interest in some celebrity culture but not enough to buy magazines about it.
I like TS but I’m not a super fan ( as I’ve says multiple times) and have never bought a publication or any related merchandise. I like her music and might pop it on in the car or on the gym if I’m in the mood.

I’ve never declared TS a feminist icon. Not once. You’ve decided that’s how I think because you make assumptions about people based on their taste in music.

I’m a huge fan of JKR and have spent money on supporting her and her many cause and campaigns. I have attended women’s rights events - even those that could cause me issues at work as being gender critical can historically caused issues in universities.
My entire career has been focused on supporting women’s career development.

But also happen to like TS and occasionally looking at celebrity wedding dresses online. Go figure

MickyMoonshine · 05/07/2026 09:11

I don’t think you understand what feminism is.

Feminism can be all of those things you describe. You can be a feminist who fights for equality for women but also likes /wants a fairytale wedding.
You can be a feminist and take an interest in fashion, celebrity lifestyle and call out misogyny and sexism when you see it.

I’m a feminist, I research and write about feminism and support women to strive for equality as part of my job. I also like fashion, pop music, wearing pink, getting my nails done etc. That doesn’t stop me being a feminist.

I couldn’t care less whether you’re a fan of hers or not, really I don’t care. But your comments are distinctly anti feminist and in my opinion misogynistic. They’re also factually incorrect. That’s what I have an issue with.

You describe her songs as vacuous - very rarely do we hear men described as vacuous. That’s what makes it misogynistic whether that was your intention or not. The number of awards she’s received would suggest her music is far from vacuous.

You criticise her for writing songs about her ex’s - again plenty of men do this but I never see them criticised for it. Plus you’ve ignored the many posters who’ve pointed out she also writes songs about other topics and there are whole albums which don’t feature a song about an ex. But invites that didn’t fit your narrative.

You criticise what she’s wearing. Again, that’s misogyny 101. It’s common knowledge that women are scrutinised and judged by their appearance in a way that men never are. That’s what makes it misogynistic.

Your categorisation of her fans is also incorrect. Shes not my favourite artist by a long shot and genuinely don’t care if someone doesn’t like her or her music. But you didn’t just say that. You decided to use well worn out misogynistic comments and attempted to belittle her fans. That’s certainly not feminism.

I don't misunderstand it, you do.

I’ve never bought a copy of hello in my life.
It’s not political correctness to say that I’m sure she’ll release a photo when she’s ready. Of course her fans want to see it but they can’t demand she does it on their timescale!

It would make sense if you had.

I wasn't really aware of it, no. I dimly remember something along those lines.

BettyJoanPerske · 05/07/2026 09:22

I'm by no means a fan or a Swiftie, but I do appreciate the fact that she stands ten toes down on not having the Kardashians anywhere near her. It's nice to see a huge celebrity gathering and not a Kardashian in sight.

I agree with this. Some posters here can't reconcile their love of Hello and fairytale weddings and their political correctness.

You're a fan. You want a picture of her in her dress.
That makes sense.
