Its a group holiday one...

13 girls going on holiday.
In hotel there is 2 rooms of 4 people, 1 room of 3 people and 1 room of 2 people.
The organiser has planned that everyone pays the same so the people who only have to share with 1 person will pay the same as the people who have to share with 3.
Surely this isnt fair and the cost should be split by room? So for example if a room for 4 is 200, that group pays 50 each.
What would you do in a group whatsapp situation where everyone else has agreed to this...
AIBU to speak up and ask for the cost to be split more fairly? The room for 2 has obviously already been bagged.

I’d be surprised if the reason for it wasn’t because that’s the only rooms available? Shes probably booked and then been given an overall price for it as one booking and not split per room

if it’s a holiday where you are going to be out the room majority of the time then I wouldn’t care. Do you know how much the difference with the rooms are?

group holidays of that size are always going to be difficult to get it right for everyone. She’s putting in the work organising this. 13 people to accommodate…

Twolittlebirds75 · 01/07/2026 19:20

Depends on age. When my son did something similar at 18 the two most sensible got the double room, the four rowdy ones got a 4 room as they could all annoy each other and others got some peace. Wasn't told whi h he was! But they all paid same as they all wanted to go nomatter what. Boys are maybe more straightforward.

WelshRabBite · 01/07/2026 19:16

Thing is four of you will be sharing 1 bathroom, while 2 others share 1 bathroom.

When you all need a shower it’ll take half the time in one room compared to the other.

Also, you only need one snorer/sleep talker/farter and they’re keeping 3 people awake. Having more bedrooms of 2 each seems the sensible way to go.

onmylastnerveseriously · 01/07/2026 19:16

Given you’ll all be miserably sharing doubles, which are tiny, I think the split is fair but I’d book my own room separately

tupperwaretowers · 01/07/2026 19:16

Quick….. call shotgun on the single bed!

Beer3000 · 01/07/2026 19:13

Sharing a room is hellish, regardless of whether it is with 1 or with 3. With 3, it might actually be less awkward to ignore everyone if it all gets too much.

On this sort of trip, I think you need to relax and split costs equally, and if you are counting the pennies and feeling resentful at this stage, then I don't think this is the trip for you.

RVectensian · 01/07/2026 19:12

If you're all sharing doubles I'd say it is slightly less unfair than it first seemed.

WallaceinAnderland · 01/07/2026 19:12

I agree with you OP, the room cost should be split between the people sharing the room.

I would say 'I don't agree with splitting the cost equally because some people are having to share not just a room but also a bathroom with 3 others. I will just pay for my share of my room and everyone else can do what they prefer.'

palrono · 01/07/2026 19:08

I'd run a mile and go to Whitby on my own 😊

Realistically I'd book a room for myself only as there's no way I'd share anymore. If you must share (and I realise it costs to book a room for single occupancy), my view is it should be room cost / no. of people in that room.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 01/07/2026 19:01

Sounds hellish. I don’t share rooms and certainly not a double bed. I wouldn’t be going with a large crowd like this.

This. I’d pay money not to go

PinkEasterbunny · 01/07/2026 19:07

Twoweeksinaugust · 01/07/2026 18:52

Why in earth have you booked rooms for 4? Why not just book all doubles? Sounds like hell.

This!!!

Can the booking be changed?

Indianajet · 01/07/2026 19:05

I would only have shared a double bed with my late husband, or my sister at a push. I wouldn't be going.

JellyAnna · 01/07/2026 19:02

This wouldn’t be an issue for me, I don’t think. I’d be a bit miffed at the ppl who went straight in and dibs the double room without checking if there’s a fairer way to do it, but tbh I think splitting the cost evenly is pretty fair. Things like this are always to be expected on a group holiday.

12345onceIcaughta · 01/07/2026 19:02

As Pp I would not go away if I had to share a double bed.

Upsetbetty · 01/07/2026 19:01

What is the age range of those group? At age 18-25 I wouldn’t give a shiny shite…now at age 41 absolutely not!!

12345onceIcaughta · 01/07/2026 19:01

I think as everyone is sharing a double bed (apart from one person) then splitting it equally is fair.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 01/07/2026 19:01

Overthemoun · 01/07/2026 18:59

Can you just make a separate booking for yourself? Have your own room?

Cornwall776 · 01/07/2026 18:58

poolcrew · 01/07/2026 18:57

Are all the rooms the same size? So does the room for 4 have 2 double beds, and the room for 2 have 2 double beds, so they get a bed each?

No the room for two people has one double bed. The room for three has one double and one single and the room for four has two double beds.

HumerousHumous · 01/07/2026 18:57

Op, would NOT be happy sharing a double bed. Completely unreasonable. Twin beds maybe ok but a double?!?! I would not be going.

TidyDancer · 01/07/2026 18:56

I would only be happy with this split if it was agreed in advance and room assignment was done at random. You could try playing dumb and just messaging back to the group saying something like ‘what’s the discount for those sharing with more people?’. I don’t think it’s fair as it stands and I’d be surprised if everyone else thought it was!

MiddleAgedDread · 01/07/2026 18:56

Cornwall776 · 01/07/2026 18:53

Sharing double beds

Fuck that, definitely a discount if that’s compared to 2 people sharing a twin room. Particularly if there’s only 1 bathroom between 4.

AbzMoz · 01/07/2026 18:54

I honestly wouldn’t mind. if this was an issue then a hotel with all twos should have been booked.
Could those in a four ask to switch it to two twos or do you want a suite for getting ready / games together?

I thought the same! Who wants to sleep in a room with 3 other people...
