Its a group holiday one...

13 girls going on holiday.
In hotel there is 2 rooms of 4 people, 1 room of 3 people and 1 room of 2 people.
The organiser has planned that everyone pays the same so the people who only have to share with 1 person will pay the same as the people who have to share with 3.
Surely this isnt fair and the cost should be split by room? So for example if a room for 4 is 200, that group pays 50 each.
What would you do in a group whatsapp situation where everyone else has agreed to this...
AIBU to speak up and ask for the cost to be split more fairly? The room for 2 has obviously already been bagged.

To be fair if a 2 person room is 1 double bed, a 3 person room has a double and a single and a 4 person has 2 doubles, I don't think the 4 people get more privacy that the 2.

I suppose there's a higher probability that 2 people will be very close friends who are happy to see each other naked... than all 4 will be, but otherwise the space in the 4 person room divided by 4 is probably the same as the space in the 2 person room divided by 2... and they will all change in the bathroom!

JohnnieFedora · 01/07/2026 20:19

Tell her not to book, because you will take over and do all the booking now as you obviously better at it than they are.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/07/2026 20:16

@Cornwall776 - I think you need to say that you don’t think the arrangements are fair and that either the people in the rooms for 3 and 4 should pay less, to reflect the fact that there’s so many of them per room, or there needs to be a fair distribution of the rooms - some sort of draw, rather than someone getting to ‘bag’ the room for 2.

I agree with you OP, the room cost should be split between the people sharing the room.

I would say 'I don't agree with splitting the cost equally because some people are having to share not just a room but also a bathroom with 3 others. I will just pay for my share of my room and everyone else can do what they prefer.'

That is so passive aggressive.

please don’t say this OP

if you are getting this woukd up without even having left, I dint think this holiday is for you. Is it ideal? No.

but really, it’s not worth causing a fuss over and it will be a terrible start to the holiday. Just deal with it.

2thumbs · 01/07/2026 20:01

Have you tried organising anything for 13 people? It’s fucking hellish! The majority add zero value yet whine like little bitches after the fact that it’s ‘not fair’. Either put up or shut up.

Kizmet1 · 01/07/2026 19:57

I think I'd book my own room. I'm 37 and recently went on a hen weekend where we were all expected to bunk up and share double beds. It was a bit awkward, but I said no.
I like my own bed space and sharing a room with single beds wouldn't have bothered me at all, but sharing a bed with a drunk pal? Noooo. I wasn't willing to flex my preference that far!

Greenbag4523 · 01/07/2026 19:38

This wouldn't bother me at all. It would annoy me more if people wanted to pay by room and I'd find that tight and a bit miserable.
Also wouldn't bother me sharing a bed, assuming you're all friends. If that's not the case just make your excuses and don't go.
Might have been better to draw rooms out of a hat.

Bitzee · 01/07/2026 19:38

It’s only fair to all pay the same if everyone gets a fair shot at the rooms and they’re allocated at random, not faster finger first.

Although in your scenario the most valuable spot is clearly the single in the room of 3 so if others are busy bagsying the double take advantage to get in there and call dibs on your own bed!!

StormGazing · 01/07/2026 19:36

I’d be saying that I have a snoring problem and best you get your own single room - job done

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 01/07/2026 19:34

Hotel rooms usually have 2 single beds that can lock together to make a double.
Doesn't solve the problem , but a bed each is surely the minimum requirement - no matter how friendly you all are.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 01/07/2026 19:01

Sounds hellish. I don’t share rooms and certainly not a double bed. I wouldn’t be going with a large crowd like this.

This!!!

largeprintagathachristie · 01/07/2026 19:33

Honestly, depends on your age. This kind of holiday sounds as if you’re all young.

Mumsnet perhaps skews a bit older, including me, and while the sharing of beds and rooms wouldn’t have bothered me at all back in the day, I’ve drawn a line now.

Just because posters are saying the plans would make THEM miserable, shouldn’t put you off.

On the money thing, hmm, I don’t think it would bother me too much, given that everyone is sharing to some extent.

Cornwall776 · 01/07/2026 18:53

Sharing double beds

Unless you are 18 and in bits, I would not agree to spend any amount of $ to share a double bed with a friend.

HeIsPerfect · 01/07/2026 19:33

4 to a room? It sounds like hell. I’d book my own room and leave them to deal with sharing.

troothfairy · 01/07/2026 19:31

Presumably the booker struggled to find a place big enough for all 13 of you and this is the cheapest solution. I think you should split it equally but designate the 2-bed room as party hub - at least then they’ll have the clearing up to do!

Ponderingwindow · 01/07/2026 19:30

pretty much everyone is sharing a bed. Splitting by person seems fair.

i wouldn’t go on this trip now or when I was young. That is just too many people in too little space for me.

Minasama · 01/07/2026 19:30

Why not just query it - “thinking about this, should split the cost of the room we’re sleeping in?”

OneNewEagle · 01/07/2026 19:29

The rooms all need to have twin beds. Even then I’d not want to share.

2chocolateoranges · 01/07/2026 19:28

Not my kind of holiday but the easiest way is for everyone to pay the same amount. Too complicated to make different people pay different amounts.

youalright · 01/07/2026 19:27

That sounds like hell what on earth was the person booking it thinking

Bumcake · 01/07/2026 19:26

ThejoyofNC · 01/07/2026 19:21

"Hi all I'm not happy with the way this has been split at all. Firstly I don't think it's fair for everyone to pay the same when some are sharing one room/bathroom between 4 of us and secondly because the only double room was taken before most of us had even read the message. These things really needed to be discussed before it was booked, not after. What's the cancellation policy? I think we should look for somewhere more suitable or at a minimum the costs need to be redistributed."

That’ll get the holiday off to a lovely start.

Bumcake · 01/07/2026 19:25

When my brother got married my SIL’s hen was like this. I just said I’d love to come, thanks, but I won’t be sharing and paid for my own room. I don’t think it’s fair to make a fuss when you’ve not done the work, but equally my sharing days are behind me.

In your shoes I’d say you’ve left it too late and must suck it up. I couldn’t be assed working out who should pay £75 and who should pay £83, which is what it probably amounts to.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/07/2026 19:25

I’d call the single bed too!

Unless it was a child bed or something (real possibility with this lot it sounds!)

I think I’d want to do my own separate booking of my own room.

But you’re right in principle - the two person rooms should come at a premium

Mauro711 · 01/07/2026 19:23

Even if I had to pay nothing, I wouldn't want to share a room and bathroom with 3 other people. I would just book my own room and let the others figure out how they want to split the cost.

ThejoyofNC · 01/07/2026 19:21
