Its a group holiday one...

13 girls going on holiday.
In hotel there is 2 rooms of 4 people, 1 room of 3 people and 1 room of 2 people.
The organiser has planned that everyone pays the same so the people who only have to share with 1 person will pay the same as the people who have to share with 3.
Surely this isnt fair and the cost should be split by room? So for example if a room for 4 is 200, that group pays 50 each.
What would you do in a group whatsapp situation where everyone else has agreed to this...
AIBU to speak up and ask for the cost to be split more fairly? The room for 2 has obviously already been bagged.

may I suggest that you use the Splitwise app. It works out exactly what each person needs to pay. You can also add expenses on to it. Ie if someone pays for coffees for all 13, it will wcost right that out. It really is brilliant. We use it on all group holidays saves all arguments.

I just sucked it up eventually because someone asked me to share a 3 person room with them and with the hotel that the organiser has chosen, there isnt that much difference in price between a 2 person room and 3 person room. Would not have wanted to go in a 4 person room!!! Also I'm happy to be sharing with people who wont roll in at 4am.

Did you score that much sought-after single bed for yourself?!

Any updates @Cornwall776 ?

Up to you all to query it and stick together xx

Chocolattecoffeecup · 03/07/2026 14:53

Have you already paid? I'd be tempted to say actually I'll sort my own accommodation as I don't plan to share a bed.

Chickadee001 · 03/07/2026 07:42

FHS this sort of theing rarely ends happily there's always going to someone annoyed - a bit like splitting the bill after a meal out and the person who didn't eat as much wants to pay less!

WHY didn't you all agree at the beginning that the total cost was to be split regardless and then those who had an issue from the outset could opt out?!

NoSausage · 02/07/2026 23:23

Cornwall776 · 01/07/2026 18:53

Wasn't discussed. Organiser just put a message on saying this is what I'm booking and this is what everyone owes

How long did you have to revert? I'd have been replying in seconds saying "love you all, so much 😆, but not enough to share a bed! I'll book seperately tonight. If you can share the booking reference I'll ask to be the same block."

'Girls'? 🙄

Yawn

I’m amazed you took more than 24hrs to show up 🙄

Chocolattecoffeecup · 02/07/2026 21:33

If you're not comfortable sharing rooms and beds with any if them speak up and say "I'm quite happy to share a room but I'm not comfortable sharing a bed with anyone. I assumed we'd all be in twin rooms with one other person." And see what she says?

I organised a trip for 15 people to France once, Normandy are for WWII stuff etc.
I only did itinerary. Said we're based in Bayuex every night...sort your own accommodation.

A MILLION times easier. We still had dinners together, did museums etc. but they knew to be in a particular carpark at X time each day. So they could spend the morning as they wished, or afternoon etc some people spent all 4 hours in museum, some spendt one hour and went off to cafe/shopping... Met back at whatever time was set for departure /meal.

Worked beautifully, because some people just wanted cheapy Novotel type places, others wanted boujie B&B etc

Edited

This is the way to do it - let people sort their own accommodation and meet up at specific times in a specific place. That way you get your own privacy, space, and comfort but you still get to see your friends (but no so much you get sick of them!)

By that logic the room for 2 will be subsidising the rooms for 4 - splitting the total cost per person makes so much more sense. You are all going. You are all sleeping in a double bed except for no 13 who has a single bed. Honestly really nothing to moan about here other than preference would have been for 6 doubles and a single room or 13 single rooms in which case you all would have been paying more

“hi gang, late to the party here. Can I take a room for 2 people please? Clearly I’m happy to pay more for it - that seems fair”…

But what happens to the 1 person who no longer has a bed if OP takes the room for 2 for herself?

Blarney72 · 02/07/2026 18:01

I'd go online and book my own room. Four in a room, sharing beds, one bathroom sounds horrendous. Only if you can't book online call the hotel and say you're a late addition!

JustGiveMeReason · 02/07/2026 16:42

As was first mentions on the first page, 'expectations' need to be agreed long before you get to the stage of anyone booking anything.

If I'd been lumbered with organising a holiday for 13 individuals, I would expect everyone who wasn't doing any of the leg work to accept decisions I took BUT you all needed to have set out your 'line' over what is / isn't acceptable when the idea was in it's infancy.

I don't have a problem sharing rooms, I am well aware others do. Neither is right or wrong, but it needed to have been sorted long before a booking.
Same as how you allocate rooms, or what you are doing about food, and so and and so on.

Absolute nightmare trying to organise a group holiday at the best of times, even if you know each other really well and know you have similar budgets and similar ways of "being" when on holiday.

This has disaster written all over it.

AnnoyedAsAllHeck · 02/07/2026 15:41

This sounds like my idea of hell. I would not want to share a bed with anyone except my DH on any type of vacation.

No advice, OP, but you have my sympathies.

PenelopeAsks · 02/07/2026 12:04

A holiday you say. 🤔

This whole thread is why being the organiser of a group holiday is an absolute 'mare.

I agree that it often can be; but part of being the organiser is asking people how they want you to organise certain important aspects.

It's not difficult to say "Do you want to share rooms/beds and save a bit of money, or pay extra for separate rooms/individual beds?" Then you sort out rooms for those who want separate ones and whoever is left, who wanted to share, can be provided with a bigger communal room(s) and charged less accordingly.

Auroraloves · 02/07/2026 11:22

Cornwall776 · 01/07/2026 18:58

No the room for two people has one double bed. The room for three has one double and one single and the room for four has two double beds.

Sounds awful. Is it 1 bathroom for 4 people? Big big no from me

MeridianB · 02/07/2026 11:05

Life's too short for this nonsense. Can you pull out OP?

I’d never go on holiday with this many people - too much potential for drama.

And imagine the poor people around them

Notonthestairs · 02/07/2026 10:00

It’s a thread about how important it is to discuss expectations (no of rooms, no of beds, division of payment) in advance. The cheapest offer may resolve some issues but add others.
