AIBU to ask if I can report my neighbour's bright blue house?

I think it's intensely rude to knock someone's door to tell them you don't like their taste so they should instead copy yours. What a strange thing to do.

I prefer real grass and bee-friendly flowers. I'm not going to knock my neighbour's door and tell them I hate looking at their fake grass out my window. Because that would be quite rude. And also irrelevant.

Similar happened in Edinburgh. A women painted her door a pink colour but the council made her change it back due to the area she was in.

Who would you report it to?? The colour police? The vibrancy inspector?

Even better if she uses ChatGPT to write a really long winded letter of complaint, including a extensive description of the effect it has had on her mental health and bullet points detailing contraventions of laws that do not exist or only apply in another country.

I had a childhood friend whose house was yellow and green. It was hideous but it made a change to the awful brown houses we have where I currently live

I think you should report it @Katey83 . It's Monday afternoon, no one wants to be at work, and it's still a full 4 and a half days until the weekend. I'm sure the housing department at your local council would appreciate a bit of a laugh to get them through the rest of the day.

You can also change your own attitude or wear yellow tinted glasses so it looks green or something

My next door neighbours house is blue. We live in a conservation area. They've been allowed to keep it blue, we've all had letters telling us that we will be fined and have to paint it back to white within 30 days if anyone else follows suit 🤷‍♀️

I don't mind it, looks nicer than beige to be fair! But it has weathered a bit weirdly, the top half is already lighter than the bottom half.

So pretty and really cheers up an environment. I'd love to see more painted houses. When we visited Bavaria, some of the houses had classical mural type paintings on them. So lovely and cheerful.

There's a village in Poland where the houses have folk art patterns painted on them.

this is the kind of thing I 'wish' I could just come out with. Instead I panic, apologise for no reason or just go silent and stare like an imbecile.

Anyway... unless there's a specific neighbourhood rule you are going to have to learn to live with the horror of colour in your life.

It doesn't matter if you want to live next to it or not. You do not have the power or the right to change it. What you can do is change your own surroundings so just grow some stuff to screen it. You can also change your own attitude or wear yellow tinted glasses so it looks green or something. You are going to have to find a way to get over it.

I spoke to the wife earlier this morning and said it was not to my taste and would they consider changing and she said ‘the beige of your house isn’t to my taste but it’s your house. This is my house.’ And shut the door in my face.

I love colourful houses. My front door is bright blue. I wish my husband was up for colourful walls. It sounds lovely and you sound like a gumpy neighbour. Just look elsewhere.
