Neighbour’s dog

Our neighbours dog can get into our garden as there is a gap in the hedge. I don’t generally mind. But over the last few days it’s taken to crapping in my garden. I’ve had to clean up 6 or more poops. The reason I don’t own a dog is because dog crap makes me vomit and I know I couldn’t clean up after one every day. Now, I want to go next door and ask them nicely to please keep an eye on where the dog goes and give them permission to come into the garden (which they can easily without asking) to clean up after the dog. Husband says it’ll cause trouble and I’m being a ‘Karen’ (I hate the use of Karen but that’s another story) they are fairly new neighbours. Thoughts??

YABU for not blocking/mending the fence to prevent it.

This is insanity - tell them to block up the hedge! The neighbours likely don’t realise the dog is doing it - but don’t invite them into your garden, that’s a recipe for disaster. I would politely tell them that you’re sure they don’t realise but wanted to make them aware and can they secure the fencing please. They’re the ones with the dog so let them secure the garden.

“Your lovely dog has worked out how to get into our garden! There must be a gap in the hedge. Would you mind popping over to clean up after him please - he’s left a few “suprises” on the grass. And think you’re going to need to plug the gap stat! Cheers have a good evening x”

I think you should politely mention that they need to secure their garden. It’s not acceptable to have to deal with poo.

I’d be furious in your position and I have a dog!

Ask them to mend the gap in the fence.
Dogs are programmed not to poo in their own territory if they can avoid it so he has worked out a clever new approach. Merely asking them to clean up is no good.
