They have only just decided to release the names of the other rapists in the latest case, in Manchester. The laws DO need changing and all women need to be aware of these crimes.

For everyone acting confused rape and all sorts are illegal yet we know are prosecuted and convicted at much lower rates than other crimes because of how our laws are written. If you actually care and aren't trying to pick holes in an victims campaign, it's fairly obvious they mean rewriting laws that currently let these men walk free because our system isn't set up to properly prosecute these sort of intimate crimes.

Thank you for sharing OP!

ElliePhant28 · 27/06/2026 15:23

@Additup @TeenToTwenties. You should feed your thoughts back to the website then. I doubt they are monitoring this thread. You are assuming the OP is running the campaign. However, it’s an international campaign and marital rape is not universally recognised as a crime.

@faithfultoGeorgeMichael thanks for posting this information. It’s shocking. Tip of the iceberg. I’m glad they lifted the reporting ban.

TeenToTwenties · 27/06/2026 15:02

I think the pp has a point though.

I clicked on your link and it talks about changing the laws that allow men to get away with drugging and raping their partners.
My immediate reaction was that it is illegal anyway.

I think in your opening statement it would be preferable to be explicit and say you want to: change laws so that 'disseminating information online on how to drug and rape and get away with it' should be illegal. Or whatever your actual mission is.

You have one chance to capture interest. What you are doing is important, so don't mess it up with a misleading mission statement

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 27/06/2026 14:48

Additup · 27/06/2026 11:28

I agree, awareness is key and this campaign is a good idea, I'm not disputing that. But that website implies there isn't justice and accountability for this crime which isn't actually true. That's the bit I don't understand.

There clearly isn’t much or this online academy training men in mass abuse of women would not exist.

Thanks op.

It wasn't a bizarre assumption to make, especially as you went onto accuse me of criticising your SPAG and writing ability/style.

You can call it petty nit picking if you like. I call it constructive criticism to help you/the organisation get your very important and admirable message across to as many people as possible.

I can't put it any clearer: You/the organisation need to make the mission statement on the webpage as clear as possible or you won't get as much engagement as you deserve.

It would be nice if you gave it a rest now. Thanks a bunch.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 27/06/2026 13:34

@Additup No, I am a a woman, who wants other women to be aware of this. It is a bizarre assumption to make imo, a LOT of women deeply care about offences against women and want to raise awareness.

Sadly the vast majority opening this post will roll their eyes are the petty nitpicking and whattaboutery displayed and learn no more. But I will keep trying.

It is such a shame this happens on MN.

This is a survivor driven project why not spend your time contacting THEM and volenteering your no doubt superb literacy skills @Additup , I am sure they need all the help they can get.

I did not find it in any way confusing, I find it powerful and inspiring. Thos women are making shame change sides 👏

I don't claim to have superb literacy skills.

However, I know enough about design/web design to know that if you make confusing statements on your homepage then you will lose a good percentage of engagement before a visitor even gets into you website.

I'd assumed you were a representative of the organisation @faithfultoGeorgeMichael . I'm sorry if you're not. Had I known you weren't I wouldn't have asked you so many questions about the homepage mission statement.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 27/06/2026 13:26

@igelkott2026 do you think more women need to know about this?

That is the point of this thread

OP posts:
faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 27/06/2026 13:25

This is from the article in Marie-Claire: Before 2024’s landmark Gisèle Pelicot trial, drug-facilitated sexual abuse was typically associated with drink spiking and ‘date rape’ drugs, not something you’d suspect from your spouse. “It's brought to the fore the reality that it can happen to anyone, and it can be perpetrated by those closest to us,” says Amelia Handy, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Rape Crisis England & Wales.

It's about changing the law to prosecute the sites. Make the sites illegal, possibly also the voyeurs. Did you even bother to read the website linked?

OP/everyone knows rape is illegal (although the pitiful amount of prosecutions are another story)

Edited

Well they are covered by the Online Safety Act which outlaws platforms displaying this sort of illegal content.

The voyeurs would be prosecuted too.

PS I don't know why you think your writing style and grammar are under attack.

If it's about changing the law to make it easier to prosecute the websites (which is long overdue and an admirable aim) then that needs to be made a clearer.

Yes, I did read the website link but the statement on the front page is very confusing, hence my questions.

If I find the mission statement on the homepage confusing re: the law then so will others.

I'm not trying to derail the thread.

I think what you're doing is a very, very good thing.

My comments have nothing to do with your writing ability or style. I am questioning why you're saying it isn't illegal for a man to drug and rape his wife when it is because I don't understand why you would say that.

@Additup please don't derail this thread, it's about the sites that teach men how to do this and raising awareness.

Please can this thread be left to raise awareness of men drug raping their wives - which is an increasingly common crime.

Please can you not making about you be right regarding my SPAG and writing ability/style.
Thanks

I have seen at least 4 threads on MN in the last week discussing these crimes and there is a widespread view that it is very rare. It is not.

82 million views. 50 million people watched the opening world cup matches.

I have seen upwards of 10 threads on MN in the last few years where women discuss waking up with their partners or husbands having sex with them or sexually assaulting them. Women need to be made aware, we need to discuss this with each other and our daughters. and keep each other safe.

I completely agree with you, but why do you talk about a need to change the law to make it illegal for a man to drug and rape his wife when it is already a criminal offence ? That's the bit I don't understand.

Obviously that's not what I'm saying.
Like I said above a support group that raises awareness is a good idea.

It's the statement about the need to change the law that allows men to drug and rape their wives that I don't understand because it is already a crime to drug and rape your wife.

Here's what this article says:

"Central to the campaign is a term most people will never have encountered: the "eye check.” It describes a specific act - deliberate and filmed - in which a perpetrator pulls back the eyelid of a victim who is unconscious or incapacitated.
It is a way of confirming their complete helplessness.

It has become a recognised feature of a category of abuse material shared in online communities where men exchange advice, techniques and recordings linked to drug-facilitated sexual assault - communities that, the women say, currently operate with no legal deterrent.

#EndEyeCheck is demanding that change.

The campaign is calling for new legislation to make the creation, possession and distribution of such material a specific criminal offence, and for online platforms to be held legally accountable for hosting it."

So I think it's about (rightly) criminalising online communities that involve sharing advice on how to drug and rape your wife.

Yes, I have to agree that from a quick look, the website seems a little vague in terms of whether it wants to take concrete action, or just be victims' support and raising awareness (which is great). Are there actual laws that need to be changed, to ensure this particular type of rape is addressed properly?

But let's be honest - there isn't a high rate of victims getting justice and accountability for sexual violence, generally speaking. It's minimised, dismissed, excused, difficult to gain a conviction, and even if convicted, quite often only results in a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.

GreenFootstool · 27/06/2026 11:30

Additup · 27/06/2026 11:09

I don't mean to sound pedantic but isn't there already justice and accountability for this sort of crime?
