AIBU to question Snag Tights using very plus-size models?

It matters because PP said no one would complain if it was thinner models posing in a sexual manner, and I am wondering where I can see examples of this from a mainstream retailer.

I understand that it's Snag's choice to use morbidly obese models in sexual poses to market their products and I stated that I imagine people are getting off on this - it's really not just about 'showing what the products look like on larger bodies'.

Plus the period pants Snag have used men to advertise.

Does it really matter? This brand uses this style of photography of their products. That's their choice of marketing.

I am also baffled why you think my body type is in 95% of adverts? I disagree. There are hardly any places that cater towards smaller frames with large breasts. Most places seem to do smaller frames with small breasts or plus size people with large breasts. Most clothes are cut with these body types in mind. You order clothes and it's impossible to tell if your breasts will fit in them or not, or if they do the clothes are enormous everywhere else. I have struggled all my life to get clothes that fit properly and end up spending a fortune on specialist swimming costumes for example, to get ones that fit properly.

After decades of everywhere only having photos of people who are size 6 then now you understand how hard it is when your body type isn’t represented. Your body type is shown in 95% of adverts. It’s hard to feel too bad for you!

In a heatwave thinking about tights isn’t top of my list of thoughts.

I think they’re just showing that they make tights that fit big people. Big people still need tights.

I personally think fat people should only have the option of wearing a giant bin bag.

I don’t find their products particularly good. I get better fitting tights on the high street and honestly think a lot of the design ones look daft. They’re also expensive, and delivery and return fees are high. The ‘customer photos’ seem to be overly sexualised compared to other brands like Bravissimo who use customer photos and influencers of different body types. I had to hide them from my social media feed as I found the fetish adjacent content a bit nauseating. I have no issue with men, transgender people or obese people modelling their clothes. In fact, that’s probably the least offensive thing about them.

Agree OP. I wouldn’t expect any fashion house to use size 26 models even if their clothes went up to that size.

Like any advert, surely you use it on who will look best in the item, then beyond that surely we all have a good enough imagination.

Mot liking the promotion of choking during sex doesn't make anyone a phobe of any sort.

The brands Freya and Panash both do swimwear in large cup and small back size combinations.

Those models weren't used to sell tights (historically, many tights models have been tall men because their legs were longer and slimmer).

They're not selling a dream of being clad in internationally renowned multibillionaire clothing, bags and living a jet setting lifestyle, they're flogging tights. And tights need to fit - with increased weight, body proportions vary significantly, particularly in women. They're not wanting to encourage people to look like them, they're wanting people who do look like them - older, taller, shorter, larger, smaller, disabled, whatever - to see the tights and think 'oh, they look like they'll fit me, I'll pay the significantly higher cost per pair compared to something from the supermarket that might fit but probably won't and take a chance'.

What exactly is the point of your post? Do you not think fat people should wear tights?

I must see a different Snag to you. I saw 2 men advertising the pride tights. And other than 1 picture on the home page, nothing even remotely pornographic until I looked at the "sexy tights"

Some of the poses are semi porn, or at least clearly made to look overtly sexy. I’m sure people are getting off on the morbidly obese woman bending over in her thong. You don’t need to be in that position to model the clothes.
