AIBU to question Snag Tights using very plus-size models?

I buy quality, dear.

What makes you think Snag are a mainstream retailer rather than a niche lingerie company though?

They have no bricks and mortar shops, they aren't advertising on TV etc.

I'd call them an alternative clothing retailer. And many alternative clothing companies use marketing very differently from the big boys of the high street.

I'm not a fan of the company, I abhor their attitude to many things, advertising period pants to men was another nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned but I'll defend their option to use even the fattest women in society to advertise their wares if they wish.

Having been over 20 stone at my worst, seeing other large women made me feel more comfortable shopping with them because I could see they'd put effort into making things fit bodies like mine.

So fat people should be hidden and not shown clothes that fit them?

I haven't seen any of that locally, so clearly it isn't universal. And I know too many trans people to think they're all the same. Bit like, well, people, really.

It’s just out of date. Since QT+ hijacked pride it’s been discredited. It’s no longer a ‘ community’ when you’ve been hijacked by terrorists who threaten violence and upset community members with no concern at all.

Is that a problem?

All body sizes and types need clothes. Everyone would like to see what something may look like on their particular body type. Everyone deserves to be represented.

Im size 8 to 10 and the clothing items Ive bought from them supposedly my size didnt fit me at all. The pink jumper that I really fancied would have got three of me in it. I had to send it back. Same with the hoodie...massive.

@Clarkeytin - it isn’t ‘normalising’ obesity - it is acknowledging that obese people exist, and that they’d like to know what clothing will look like on their body type. Do you want us all shut away from the public gaze?

I don’t like their advertising strategy at all. But that’s more to do with the fetish element of it. I don’t care what size the models are. Showing an obese woman in tights that fit doesn’t automatically suggest that obesity is somehow being celebrated or glamorised. Obesity is a disease which anyone could tip into, given the right circumstances, and I think it’s important that women feel comfortable in their clothing no matter what size they are.

I think it must be funded by mounjaro and wegovy.. this whole ‘ let’s normalise being fat’ movement is closely followed by ‘ let’s normalise spending loads of money not being fat any more’.

advertising is now brain dead. Have you seen all the lipstick ads showing lip colours for light skinned women, plastered onto very dark lips? It’s Al Jolson. Nobody is going to want to look like that. It doesn’t ’ promote Diversity’ to ridicule dark skin. Bizarre.

How do you expect larger women to know what clothing will look like on them, if they are only ever modelled on size 10 women, @DallazMajor?

Perhaps you think fat women should be locked away from all public gaze u til they lose weight. Or maybe they don’t deserve to have clothes that fit them and make them feel comfortable and happy? That last one is something that a ‘friend’ once said to me - she did not understand that a happy confident person is more likely to be able to look after their health and weight than a sad, depressed one.

YABU, simply because when people say the same about ultra skinny models, everyone says that it isn't a problem.

As mentioned upthread, Snag did a whole thing where they sold patches that said "choke me", and when a number of women (including victims of DV) said that this was inappropriate, Snag labelled them kink-shaming bullies.

There are several Mumsnet threads about it and Snag's absolutely awful response is still on their Instagram the last time I looked.

• anyone can see the difference between showing that their tights fit fat people and glorifying it as a lifestyle;
• everyone also knows that being overweight is a health risk. They will probably have been told this by doctors and other health providers repeatedly. A few pretty ladies wearing tights isn’t going to alter that;
• I am much more concerned by people who are constantly being pushed forwards who have had Botox, various disfiguring surgeries, and clear mental health issues being used to flog shite products;
• it is refreshing to see people who don’t conform to a near-anorexic body type being used to advertise products for once.

Plus praise be for tights that actually fit! Whatever you think of the advertising the tights are brilliant.

I boycott Snag because of their revolting advertising.

Us fatties also wear tights. I myself was more cringed out by the photos sent in by customers of guys wearing snag tights.
