AIBU to refuse my neighbour asking to share my car repair booking?

Currently have a mobile car body shop repair man on drive. I asked him if he wanted to rearrange due to heat and he replied with ‘if it’s ok I’ll come early and put a tent/shade up, crack on and be gone before heat kicks in.’
great, happy with this. Told my neighbour, just in case she was disturbed and she was fine with it.

Roll on this morning and the guy arrives 7.30 to set up, he’s actually really quiet. Neighbour pops out walking dog and says to him
’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’
it is an all day job I was booked for, but he’s started at 7.30 instead of 9.30 and aims to be finished by 2.30 instead of 4.30.
I’ve just had 3 WhatsApp messages to ask me if I can get repair man to agree and that it’s only fair due to her being disturbed very early this morning. I’m literally agog!

Cheeky cow. Make sure he knows you aren’t supporting this!!

I think it has everything to do with the OP when the neighbour wants the work done on the tent on her drive as it’s already set up there.

Also you've forgotten to tell us his reply when your neighbour said...

’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’

Did he tell her he'd think about it?

If so, I don't understand why she's messaging you anyway?

ETA: And I'm not sure where you got 'sharing your booking' from. When he's finished your car, he's finished and is on his own time.

It's not up to you, it's up to him.

If the repair man wants to book in another job after yours, that's totally up to him. Nothing to do with you.

I would mention to repair man that you appreciate him coming early so he could finish early. And make it clear neighbours request is nothing to do with you.

Your neighbour isn't asking to share your booking. Your booking ends when he finishes your job. She's asking the repair man to add another job to his day, his call if he accepts or not.

Tell her no, she needs to speak to him herself. What a chancer!

I don't think this is for you to agree to or refuse - surely it's up to the repair man whether he wants to take on another job after he's done yours? You don't have to let her use your drive though obviously.

Thank goodness someone said this.

I thought I was going mad! 😳😁

Arlanymor · 24/06/2026 11:10

I don't see what it's got to do with you - it's his choice to make. What did he say when she said to him: ’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’ Presumably he either said yes or no? If he said yes, then leave them to it and if she messages you again just tell her to communicate with him directly. If he said no, then remind her that he said he no. That's it.

Are you suddenly employed as the mechanic’s secretary?

CornishCornetto · 24/06/2026 11:08

In the interests of neighbourly relations, go out, ask him if he wants to do a job for your neighbour but tell him no pressure, then reply to her saying “I’ve asked, he says he’s not able to stay on after finishing my car, but here’s his details for you to make a booking”. Then any pressure from her just reply politely saying that you’ve asked, he said no and obviously you can’t make him!

Tell her no, don't explain or soften it. . Go outside and tell him to tell her no and you didn't see this coming. She needs to make her own appointment.
