AIBU to refuse my neighbour asking to share my car repair booking?

Currently have a mobile car body shop repair man on drive. I asked him if he wanted to rearrange due to heat and he replied with ‘if it’s ok I’ll come early and put a tent/shade up, crack on and be gone before heat kicks in.’
great, happy with this. Told my neighbour, just in case she was disturbed and she was fine with it.

Roll on this morning and the guy arrives 7.30 to set up, he’s actually really quiet. Neighbour pops out walking dog and says to him
’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’
it is an all day job I was booked for, but he’s started at 7.30 instead of 9.30 and aims to be finished by 2.30 instead of 4.30.
I’ve just had 3 WhatsApp messages to ask me if I can get repair man to agree and that it’s only fair due to her being disturbed very early this morning. I’m literally agog!

she's batshit. all she needs to do is book him in herself on another day. He is within his rights to not want to work in this heat, loads of businesses/jobs amended last week to suit the heat.

@Arlanymor "I don't see what it's got to do with you - it's his choice to make."

The neighbour wants her car to be repaired on the OP's driveway. She wants to plonk her car there for the repair. So it actually has got quite a lot to do with the OP. If the mechanic wants to do the work then fine, but he can't arbitrarily decide to use the OP's driveway as his workshop for the day and neither can the neighbour.

Well it's been updated since and didn't happen. But I thought it was very obvious that 'his decision' also means that he would relocate to the neighbour's driveway. Different appointment, different arrangement. Doesn't matter what the entitled neighbour says - he's a professional, so if he had agreed he should make it clear that the work takes place on the neighbour's driveway. So nothing to do with OP unless she felt the need to say: "If you agree to do it, please don't do it on my driveway." But you generally don't need to tell professionals that.

It’s just a cheeky extension of the “while you’re here” heard by plumbers, sparkys etc. every day. Where the customer expects another “little job” done for free.

Beabarb · 27/06/2026 23:22

No is a complete sentence.

Challenger2A7 · 27/06/2026 17:39

She's trying to get something for nothing. She didn't make the booking but she's willing to use the fact that you did. If the repair man finishes your job to your satisfaction, and doesn't hurry it, then it's up to him what he does next. But no, she can't use your drive, and she should be asking him herself. She sounds like the type who'll want a good discount off him "because you're already here."

LubyLooTwo · 27/06/2026 17:35

I think she's taking the piss. Tell her that her wanted to start early and leave early so it's not convenient.

Update: 14.10

I went out to give him a cold drink, he’s nearly finished.

I got no further response from last message I sent stating he wasn’t keen.

As I was taking glass from him she’s popped out and stated ‘and here’s me thinking there’s a cost of living crisis and here you are turning work down’ got in her car and drove off.

Superb!

Think of it this way OP. You’ve learned to stay away from her in future

Patricia69 · 27/06/2026 10:40

up to him, just don’t let her use your driveway .
what disturbance r u making up to her , getting your car fixed . Fuck her . She can make her own arrangements

LHP118 · 26/06/2026 06:45

Say 'not my call', and you really can't force someone to work longer hours for something they hadn't planned/booked for.

What an idiotic neighbour.

Tuesdayschild50 · 25/06/2026 21:01

I'd laugh at her if that was me.
Height of cheek .

Laurmolonlabe · 25/06/2026 18:42

Don't get involved, it's nothing to do with you. WhatsApp her and tell her 7.30 is not early for a weekday, and that you have no intention of getting involved. It's up to the mechanic.

inappropriateraspberry · 25/06/2026 18:21

She’s entitled to refuse that the neighbours moves her car into her driveway, but yes - pass it on to the repair guy making it clear to him he’ll have to move his tent to neighbours property.

IcyShark · 25/06/2026 17:56

My reply to her messages would start with an F and end with an Off

She’s been mostly ok, borrowed the odd thing, returned with thanks etc… just been chatting to another neighbour who wandered down and wanted repair man’s details. Gladly passed over.

Repair man said he was sorry he couldn’t do it but he’s rammed, but he didn’t want it to be awkward as apparently this happens a lot 😱

Probably wanted a discount rate too seeing as " he was already here"! cheeky cow.

Fair points @Beenwhereyouareagain

No, I was agreeing with you and even adding more weight to the CF charges.😁

Was she expecting you to pay for it "since he was there anyway"? I had similar, when I had someone doing work at the front of the house. He told my neighbour he'd give her a quote! :D

MandemChickenShop · 24/06/2026 19:33

clearly nuts, but at least she owns it! the cost of living comment is pure chef's kiss!

It’s not up to you, it’s up to him whether he wants to

It would be up to her if he's using her drive

Arlanymor · 24/06/2026 11:10

I don't see what it's got to do with you - it's his choice to make. What did he say when she said to him: ’seeing as you’re going to be done early can you do a few bits on mine and as tent etc is already up I can move my car so you won’t have to move it’ Presumably he either said yes or no? If he said yes, then leave them to it and if she messages you again just tell her to communicate with him directly. If he said no, then remind her that he said he no. That's it.

Its everything to do with the op, cf neighbour want to use the tent on op drive!!

Beenwhereyouareagain · 24/06/2026 18:20

zobeit · 24/06/2026 14:56

She wanted to piggyback your booking, use your drive, ignore the conditions he’s working in, selfishly and persistently have you arrange something for her rather than ask herself and then insulted him?
She’s something else isn’t she?
When she needs a favour make yourself scarce.

The thing is that cheeky neighbor did ask him herself and he said NO. So why has she pestered @whoahokeycokey 7 or more times since then?? And then told him off before during away.

I agree, she IS something else. WTH is wrong with entitled people who won't take no for an answer?

I'd be plotting revenge, but I'm petty that way. 🙄

QueenietheGreat · 24/06/2026 17:51

@whoahokeycokey
Tell her to get her own appointment
Whatever next?
That because both appointments were side by side
He might almost go 2 for 1 ??
