Tell me, op. In your day to day life, who have you come in to physical contact with this week who was ‚‘hysterical‘ about 40 degree heat? How many people? Actual physical contact?

Oh a real heat wave is when steam comes out of your ears - like in the cartoons -
all this burning your bottom on a scorching car seat, and leaving your ring off as it will get stuck on swollen fingers - all this is just the warm up.

Well I think the Prime Minister of France talking about it is pretty much a strong emphasis on not swimming in open water. Plus you can't have it both ways - do you want the warning to be the first item on the news or not? Because if it is it will inevitably mention the heatwave because that is why people do it!!

To be honest I’m sick of all the competitive unbotheredness about it. It’s really boring. Some people do struggle in the heat for various reasons. Personally I hate it. I don’t sleep well, I can’t concentrate, I hate feeling sweaty, it just generally makes me irritable and fed up. I’m allowed to have a moan about it just like anyone is allowed to complain about things that they don’t enjoy.

There are health warnings, schools and workplaces are closing so for some it obviously is a serious issue. The topic has been done to death so no point repeating the valid points about this countries infrastructure not being set up for this kind of heat.

What’s a ‘real’ heatwave?!

This is it - I believe we should stand firm and keep the roast going - no matter what the temperature - Britain was built on tea and roasts

Well I think I trust "them" - i.e. the Met Office - more than a handful of eye rolling Mumsnetters.

Try just having a sheet on top. And sleep naked. A fan on standby. Hopefully it works for me!

I blame vanity temperatures.

I’ll tell my doctors who have warned me every year to avoid heat as much as possible due to my many incidents of serious heat exhaustion that it’s all hysteria… are cold weather warnings acceptable? As some of us don’t have problems in the cold but still appreciate others may have medical conditions exacerbated by freezing temperatures.

God I pan fried a chicken breast this evening and I was a right sweaty mess, oh good god what is to come of my Sunday roast?! 😂😂

My big concern is - when is it safe to cook a roast ? I’m talking oven on, veg boiling. Maybe even extend the oven time for an upside down cake and custard ?
Is this all off the cards tomorrow ?

Yes but it’s a red warning because they’ve said it is, if they said a red warning was 28 degrees would you still be worried, because “they” told you to be?

Couldnt agree more. Its the first item on the news. It's even worse than snow hysteria. I think more emphasis should be put on warning young people to stay away from reservoirs and lakes and so on.Swimming in them can be extremely dangerous and these accidents are avoidable. Dont swim in reservoirs.

I’m fed up of people moaning about heatwave hysteria. Juts do your thing and let others do theirs.
Also maybe try and understand that everyone deals with these things differently, some struggle hugely. And it’s a lot worse in some places and some situations.

I honestly don’t know what all the fuss is about, yes there’s people with cognitive decline putting their jumpers and fires on, but for us “normal” people, is there a risk to life, I mean is there really?

I'm perimenopausal, god damn I’ve been sweating, but closing schools? I feel like people are bending to “everyone else is doing it so we should” and quite frankly it’s silly, a couple of years ago I was sat waiting for my daughter to finish school and according to my car it was 40 degrees, no mention of schools closing. Makes me feel like I’m in some sort of parallel universe.

It’s a red warning where I live. My child’s primary school has closed as they don’t have enough windows to provide adequate ventilation to keep the children comfortable.

It’s due to hit 37 degrees where we live tomorrow with an ever higher “feels like” temperature.

I have a job where we have to wear trousers and closed toe shoes and a work issued tunic top (think nurse / carer style top - synthetic and horrible).

I’m in the office based role tomorrow rather than out with patients, we have no air conditioning and it was 36 degrees in the office today at 6pm, didn’t check earlier in the day but bet it was higher!

One of my colleagues was sent home sick today as she fainted due to heat.

Not hysteria at all, heat like this, when you are not used to it, can be dangerous!

Anyone feeling the need to wear a coat at 35 degrees really should see a doctor as there is clearly something wrong with their body's temperature control.
