I’ve asked chat gpt and just don’t believe their response.

I am new to exercising daily. Have dusted off an old exercise bike and treadmill. I aim to do one hour of cardio a day. I want to obviously just get the most my bang for my buck calorie wise (bmr for me is low - short and medical issue).

Which one burns more calories. I walk 5.5 km at 5.5 kmph speed. Or I’m on the bike for just over an hour. RPM averages around 50. I manage a distance of 11 miles an hour in that time.

Chat GPT says the bike is 1.5-2x more calorie intensive. But I find the bike much much easier

Is chat gpt telling porkies.

im 145 pounds and 5 ft 3

I will focus more on strength training but don’t have an affordable gym close by right now

Best to do a bit of everything. A fitness watch will give you a pretty good calculation based on heart rate etc

I'd say you are doing the best option by alternating

Hello, I hope this is helpful and not patronising. I understand long periods of cardio can be boring & you reference just playing on your phone. Sometimes I do my own little HIIT thing on the bike i.e. pedal as hard as I can for 20 seconds and then I have two minutes off and then I’ll do it that for 10 times. That’s 25 minutes over with really quickly. Also, sometimes I put on a song and every time the chorus comes up I have to stand up and pedal as hard as I can. Makes the time pass really quickly. And then you can do yourself a recovery song to some sort of Celine Dion ballad in the middle of these harder bits. Sounds mad but it makes a time pass eally quickly. I frequently get 45 minutes on the bike over and done with in some sort of mini session like the above. Hope this helps.
