To cancel date over his ‘joke’?

5th date tomorrow night with a man who has been great up to now. I’ve had to push the time back by an hour - said I’ll need extra time to freshen up after work. His reply to me was: “No worries, can’t be having a whiffy growler lol”.

Is that date cancelling worthy or am I being a bit too harsh?

Is he living in some kind of 1970s time warp or something? I like to think have a sense of humour but it is firmly based in the current decade. I would be inclined to worry that this type of comment is telling you a lot more about him than he meant to reveal. The mask has slipped a bit there....

Scout2016 · 23/06/2026 18:28

I think that having now slept with you he's being more himself and not on best behaviour.

Unfortunately, the side of himself he has relaxed into showing you is gross.

GreatFish · 23/06/2026 18:26

Uurrrgggg.

unsync · 23/06/2026 18:26

Ick.

Is he hoping for a shag in this heat or something? 🤢

My husband and I had a quick hug in the kitchen this morning and agreed that's the last time we'd be needing to even breathe near each other until Saturday earliest, let alone touch each other - love you bye!

Bloozie · 23/06/2026 18:20

Cancel without a second thought.

Pickledonions12 · 23/06/2026 18:20

My fanjo would be clamped shut from now on , if I were you

WeatherOrNothing · 23/06/2026 18:17

gross who speaks like that. Dump him

I probably would’ve found this hilarious at 18, but at 36 I think I’d be put off

MrsClattenburg · 23/06/2026 17:49

No, whiffy growler made me 😆

Or perhaps "Ones bloom was accompanied by a scent not altogether consistent with refinement" would have been more polite?

Duvetdayforme · 23/06/2026 18:13

🤮

lurkingfromhome · 23/06/2026 18:13

My, he sounds classy. And intelligent. What a keeper.

Moveoverdarlin · 23/06/2026 18:11

I would really laugh.

MyLimeGuide · 23/06/2026 18:10

Oh god no, he should have said 'you don't need to shower' what a dick

diddl · 23/06/2026 18:08

So now you've had sex he thinks he doesn't have to try anymore & that you're "freshening up" with him in mind?

Nah!

bigboykitty · 23/06/2026 18:08

'On balance, I want to cancel our plans and leave it there. All the best'

He'll reply telling you to lighten up and learn to take a joke. And then you can block him. Onwards and upwards.

Urgh. That would give me the biggest ick.
Repulsive saying that to someone you barely know.

NewGoldFox · 23/06/2026 18:05

givemesteel · 23/06/2026 18:00

Urgh. The fact that you've slept with him makes it worse. Very entitled as there's a sense that you're freshening up "for him" later.

Shudder.

Yes! I was in two minds with this as whiffy growler on its own I think is a little funny but it’s the implication.

Allseeingallknowing · 23/06/2026 18:03

Vile and repulsive!

Waitingfordoggo · 23/06/2026 18:02

Rank, grubby, disrespectful. Would give me an ick I probably couldn’t get past.

Can you please keep us updated on what happens next OP?

PenelopeJoanSterling · 23/06/2026 17:46

but then the question is why didnt the op make him wait ?

That’s not the question. That’s pivoting the conversation away from discussing a man’s bad behaviour to discussing how we can make a woman responsible for it.

I assume OP had sex because she wanted to. That’s by the by.

Dirty bastard.
Sorry you had to see those words even if it was in 'jest'.
Just nasty.

DontGoChasinWaterfalls · 23/06/2026 17:54

God, that's vile....
