AIBU to feel the media is pushing Starmer out?

To feel the media is forcing Starmer out and to be annoyed by this.

They need constant drama and content and this is done at the expense of the country. Starmer is boring but things are improving despite major problems like Iran in the background.

If this were 20 years ago he’d have been safe. They are treating government like football clubs and want Burnham as they think he’s more showbiz. These foreign owner media outlets don’t care about the stability of this country, they just want headlines and drama on X to drum up more drama for headlines and opinion pieces where the media all interview each other.

The country is becoming ungovernable because them and I’m sick of it.

I haven’t and would never vote Labour, I didnt like Starmer, he’s got his just desserts with his sanctimonious dribble to Boris in the past.

however I’d rather Starmer than the poop heap of other Labour MPs lining up, possibly except Yvette Cooper and David Milliband.

Many people continue to have children they can't afford to support on their own because state benefits mean they can afford them.

And as they're 'entitled' to those benefits, they factor in those benefits as it's become part of their income. Their right. They don't think about how they'd manage without it, they just think well we'll get these benefits and so that's okay.

There's several UK 'family vloggers' on Youtube with 6-13 kids that i'm aware of that are planning more kids even if they already have one or more disabled kid and think that's just fine because they're already in social housing and claiming thousands a year but think it's okay because the man works a manual job. They don't think well he definitely isn't earning enough to support a family of 8-15, they think it's justified because the housing and the benefits are what they're entitled to.

“Their right” @CoolGreenBee
what do you mean? They see this as their right?

Ffs - they even have drones in the sky now filming the train Andy Burnham is coming down to London on 😆

It all seems quite cringy

Will there be crowds lining his route from Euston to Westminster Shouting “All Hail
Andy, he’s coming to save us”

My post about my situation was to provide an example of claiming benefits not being about feckless behaviour. The word ‘feckless’ was used in this thread. That’s why I have used it.

I would have NEVER been able to predict what had happened to me. Neither would you. What you are doing right now is victim blaming. It says much more about you than it does me.

I waited until I had the most financial and emotional stability possible to have DC. i married a man whose outward persona was exceptionally well put together and I had no idea that he would become what he has become. I have worked really hard to maintain my income and be the best parent I could. I look after my health. I have a good pension. I have good income protection built into my job. But right now, the £108 per month child benefit (that all parents earning under 50,000 a year get), is very much needed and appreciated. I make zero apology for that. I fully support my taxes being used to support others who need it.

Taxing the wealthy remains the most sensible solution to our economic situation as a country in my eyes. And Starmer has been ousted by the press because they are owned by millionaires who don’t care what state the country is in because they are alright Jack. I hope his replacement can be a steady pair of hands at least.

Anyway I’m off down the shops to grab me fags and booze, before I head off to the pub tonight to shag random blokes without protection and get myself knocked up again so I can claim more benefits. I’ll let you know how it goes!

Taxing the wealthy has been done before. Take a look at what happened.

Very few of the wealthy stuck around long enough to pay any taxes so the country needed even more money to plug the gap in lost revenue and it was the middle and lower earners who ended up paying more tax not less.

You know GB news is owed by Farage sponsers, right??

So? They're still not allowed to print blatant untruths.

Burnham called for a general election in 2022 when the Tories were changing leaders quicker than their pants. Do you think he’ll stick to that now?

He might. All depends on what he thinks his popularity is going to look like as a function of time, whether he wants to survive by following through on the old manifesto or whether he wants to change to a new one. I think without a new manifesto it would be a hard sell to the party.

It will be pretty funny though if he decides to go for it given some of the comments on here.

Odds seem to indicate 7-1 for an election in 2026 atm so the bookies at least seem to think it is unlikely.

Idlemummy · 22/06/2026 17:02

Very much so. A few hours since KS's speech and 5 Live presenter is acting incredulous that 'we' don't know Andy Burnham's 'plan'. I don't think I can listen to the news any more. He was talking about AB needing 'momentum' and 'announcements'. Nope, it's the media that need 'momentum' and 'announcements' to keep up the cycle.

You seem to be ignoring the fact that nobody really wanted him in the first place and he was less popular than Corbyn and only won due to Reform splitting the right vote.

But he just never really had any vision. All wishy washy and totally out of touch with the majority of the country. His utter failure to act on immigration and benefits / overspending was his ultimate downfall. He basically u-turned and put two fingers up to working people while prioritising illegal immigrants.

And now Burnham and Milliband are gearing up to further shaft the country. Labour will again be out in the cold for two decades by the time they’re done.

At this point we would be better off with Amazon’s Alexa running the country.

All political careers end in failure.

One million percent. They've been after him since the day and hour he was elected. I'm a bit of a floating voter so not hard labour but I'm appalled at how he's been treated especially in comparison to the ne'er do wells that made up the last lot. They got away with murder.

And he knew that would be the case. He’s a career politician so it shouldn’t be a surprise to him. He’s had his couple of years in the spotlight (not to mention his Taylor Swift tickets) and I’m sure he won’t have to worry about his future

BurtsBeefCrisps · 22/06/2026 16:29

Its not that, the media have always done this to every single Labour, more so since the Murdoch era.
It is the fact that for once the LP are not going to stand by and watch the slow car crash of Reform gaining power.
look at Starmer’s poll ratings. Worst ever, he can’t turn it round but hopefully Burnham can. It is bigger picture time, think of the worst case scenario, ie a fascist government and then work towards preventing that while its not too late. I feel for KS as I voted for him as a member but he made too many mistakes and Labour can’t make mistakes! That’s not a new thing!

It clearly has. And there’s been a concentrated campaign to do so.

They’ve got their way and pushed out a perfectly good PM.

Now they’ll start on Burnham (or whoever takes over if not him) and carry on until we’re all utterly fucked.

Listening to the Labour MPs cheer at Burnham signing in they got their way. It’s MPs over the media on this.

senua · 22/06/2026 14:31

Not saying other governments don't do this too - just need to be clear that the figures are not wholly improved due to people getting treated.
Typical political spin. isn't it? No counting of treatments, just waiting lists.
Apparently they did it with immigrants, too. The number of boat crossings was down this year ... but that was mainly due to the awful weather making crossings too tricky. Meanwhile, crossings by lorry went up but nobody mentions that.

professionalcommentreader · 22/06/2026 14:12

Dont be fooled by the reduced NHS waiting lists, funding pulled from lots of treatments so waiting lists cancelled. Inc for my condition.

Also due to incentives given to NHS Trusts to clean up waiting lists - so people who have died waiting or gone private and were still on lists due to crap admin have been removed.

Not saying other governments don't do this too - just need to be clear that the figures are not wholly improved due to people getting treated.

Oh STOP PRESS. It's a BLACK CAB people! As the Sky reporter says - "What else for the KING OF THE NORTH." No fancy govt car here - on TAXPAYERS' money.

What will the traffic be like? Will the air con work for The King of the North? Will he make it to Downing Street? How many times can Sky commentators get The King of the North into a sentence? Hold onto your seats Sky News viewers.

Sounds like Russell Kane's social media posts of recent weeks.

"I'm Andy Burnham and I'd dead normal, me. I drink gravy, cos I'm normal. Nothing to see here, just me looking at the sky being a normal bloke."

Cut to black and white shot of deranged Andy Burnham hissing about power and unseating the PM. Very funny.

millymollymoomoo · 22/06/2026 08:53

don’t care. His complicity to rake scandal, two tier society and controls on speech and other means he must go, Burnham will be worse. And Labour are completely hypocritical because they ( and lefties media) forced Boris out for much less - eg saying conservatives lost x councils and no longer trusted do must go yet Labour lost 3 times as many yet stay ….. along with many other reasons,

worst party ever

Bless you. Right wing media brain washed.

I can hear the helicopters over my house. AB stuck in traffic. What a performance.

It’s not Labour’s fault they keep promising the earth and going through with wildly unpopular policies, it’s ’the Media’s’

Of course. God forbid Labour be held accountable for anything.

WilliamsandWatsonTooLateNSoul · 22/06/2026 13:49

Daily Mail and the comment section had a hard on for him weeks into his tenure shouting for a General election.

Running the country isn't a popularity contest and it's easy to say what you'd do when years away from power.
Badenoch maybe needs a reminder it was her party that cut police numbers and military personnel etc.
Those numbers need time and training to turn round .

alwaysdream · 22/06/2026 13:47

Currently Sky are discussing the merits and demerits of train travel to London and what platform exit AB will be coming out of (looks like he sneaked out via a side exit so that foiled them). Lots of references to "the King of the North is on his way to London" ..,. "The King of the North has arrived at Euston Station... will 'The King of the North he now get an Uber like normal people...?" So you can see how they are already framing a narrative. Helicopters are in the sky - looking for what? A Uber? A govt car it? What will it be?? The nation is riveted, I'm sure.
